“The fight is far from over”

Senator Rand Paul has suspended his Presidential campaign.

A statement released by Paul this morning confirmed that following a fifth place finish in Iowa, Paul is facing up to the reality that he does not have the numbers to carry on in the race.

The son of former Congressman Ron Paul polled 4.5 percent in the Iowa caucuses.

Although he bettered the majority of other GOP candidates, including Jeb Bush, Paul finished behind Ted Cruz, Donald Trump, Marco Rubio, and Ben Carson.

“It’s been an incredible honor to run a principled campaign for the White House. Today, I will end where I began, ready and willing to fight for the cause of Liberty,” Paul said.

The Senator has clearly opted to concentrate 100 percent of his efforts on reelection in the Senate.

“Although, today I will suspend my campaign for president, the fight is far from over. I will continue to carry the torch for Liberty in the United States Senate and I look forward to earning the privilege to represent the people of Kentucky for another term.” Paul noted.

For some time, Paul did not break single digits in national polls. He repeatedly suggested that the polls could be inaccurate, but with the Iowa results he can no longer plausibly put forth such a theory.

He struggled to raise significant campaign funds, prompting some to suggest it was a mistake to not bring Ron Paul into his own campaign as a major figure, to draw on his grass roots support.

Last week, during a strong performance in the GOP debate, Rand Paul declared that he was the only candidate that could attract the “liberty vote.”

Paul has campaigned consistently on issues such as auditing the Federal Reserve, reigning in NSA spying, decrying abortion, and pushing for criminal justice reform.

“Across the country thousands upon thousands of young people flocked to our message of limited government, privacy, criminal justice reform and a reasonable foreign policy. Brushfires of Liberty were ignited, and those will carry on, as will I.” Paul stated.

Ron Paul ran for President three times over the course of his long political tenure, with his most successful campaign coming toward the end of his career in 2008.

In light of this, Rand Paul will doubtless be back in the race in the future, when he feels the time is right.
