Reddit Busted Censoring Alternative Media

Washington’s Blog [1]

It’s bad enough that the government censors and manipulates  [2]social media.

But Reddit [3]Facebook, Digg, Youtube and other social media sites  [4]have long censored content as well.

For example, Facebook pays low-wage foreign workers to delete certain content based upon a censorship list [5]. For example, Facebook deletes accounts created by any Palestinian resistance groups.

Digg was caught censoring stories which were controversial or too critical of the government. See this [6]and this [7].

Many accuse Youtube of blatant censorship [8].

And today, two front-page stories on Reddit show:

(1) Reddit censors

and

(2) Redditors are furious about it

(Reddit is an immensely popular website, especially among young men.  6% of all adults – and 15% of all males aged 18-29 [9] – read Reddit.)

One front-page Reddit story today – with more than 8,000 upvotes at last count- reported [10]:

The Russian news site RT.com has been banned from the popular Reddit forum r/news for spamming and vote manipulation. [11]

The top comments to the story are slamming Reddit over censorship:

The second front-page Reddit story says [14]:

RT.com partially banned by Reddit – RT Answers Back. [15]

Here’s the top comment to that story:

[16]Digg was destroyed by censorship, and – unfortunately, because I’ve liked Reddit for years – Reddit seems to be headed in the same direction:

[17]

And see this [18].

One of the top, longest-serving moderators told me privately that he disagrees with the harsh stance of some moderators. I’m a long-time Redditor, and am good friends with other old-timers. We are all disgusted by the censorship.
