    Mr. Speaker:

For the last two years I’ve struggled with the issue of whether the House should impeach a sitting President. Next to declaring war, impeachment is the gravest matter the House of Representatives must consider. I fully understand the gut-wrenching consequences such a national debate could precipitate. Yet, there is one fact we cannot overlook or escape: American cannot regain its moral leadership in the world if America cannot hold its leaders accountable for their actions at home.

The allegations that would warrant impeachment keep growing. They have been illuminated in recent books including The Way of the World by Ron Suskind, the book by Vincent Bugliosi, and the new book by Bob Woodward, The War Within.

Over five years ago, I tried to place asterisks in the Congressional Record next to the statements about Iraq the President made to Congress. I was attacked for saying the President would mislead us into the war, but the American people ultimately learned the truth.

There seems to be no end to the allegations and we have a responsibility to investigate their authenticity. That’s why I’m signing onto a resolution to consider impeachment of the President. Without accountability, a democracy will fail. I yield back.

      Ain’t a republic anymore, either.

    6. No identity required Says:

Notice his usage of the word illuminated. Strange usage of word “illuminated” in recent books. Impeachment of an out going president is a mere political smoke screen, they such be focusing more on who is going to be the next president, then figure out what do to with him. you guys don’t need 4 more years of bondage. Why doesn’t he make remarks about Mc Cain and or Obama about their faults, or even better just plain go out and spill the beans on what really is going on. Is it fear or ignorancy or even better is he a Paul Revere. Did impeachment hurt Nixon, did the attempt of t hurt bill clinton. Bush has already installed the laws to protect himself in the future.

    7. Mark Gutting-Kilzer Says:

It’s easy to climb aboard the Impeachment bandwagon now, knowing there is little time to act and the political consequences for doing so are at a minimum.

Where were these people in 2004 when Congressonal Investigations could reveal the truth more clearly? We could have used their support before millions of emails were erased and pertinent documents were shredded.

    8. ron heringhauser Says:

Hats off to Rep. McDermott of Washington for backing impeachment of this criminal president. Now all of our rep’s need to make a stand and those who side with Bush, must go ASAP. Of further note; God Bless Alex Jones, We Are Change, and all the 911 truthers who are making a stand to get the truth out; truth and good will prevail over this evil force!

    9. John Holmes Says:

My dog likes visitors in her yard, but when they go to leave she attacks them. Sorry McD, too little too late. Obviously, this is just an election year ploy. The stupid McDs of the world want more and stronger centralized government power then they cry when that power is abused. A totalitarian state would work great… IF… I were in charge!

    10. Thomas Jefferson Says:

Are you suggesting we should yell: Long Live the Banana republic!!!??

I hope you mean the clothing store.

    11. Thomas Jefferson Says:

Kind of reminds me of trickle down economics, the Keynesian model, where you think it’s trickling, but it’s just some knucklehead pissing on your leg and telling you it’s raining. Life ain’t easy in Absurdistan.

    12. WIGGINS Says:

      No he means UK.

    13. Kshatriya Says:

Every little bit helps, it might give to other reps a nudge towards impeachment and/or joining in with Nader etc… in the overall movement to hold the Chester’s accountable for their evergrowing heinous list of atrocities. So please, you dont have to send the guy money or campaign for him, but dont slam him for joining the movement late, it may discourage others from joining the movement. We should praise his courage to give other reps and even celebrities courage to speak out. These types of people scan the web to see what the public opinion is, so when somebody comes in late, for Gods sake do not react in a negative manner, PLEASE.

    14. Nancy Says:

Clearly, Bush’s Jewish masters are going to throw him under the bus in anyway or manner that they can as a result of the 911 truth movement’s demonstration of Israeli involvement. These vile parasites will do anything to make sure that they are never held accountable for their actions. As McDermott is also controlled by our Jewish masters, he cannot fart without orders from Tel Aviv. Therefore, we can see the hand of zionism moving this chess piece.

All this will do is take the attention away from what Israel is planning against Iran.

      Go back to sleep, everyone.

    15. jerry Says:

October surprise may be that bush calls for his own impeachment

    16. pete Says:

impeach the whole usa government, throw em’ all into jail/out of work replace the burocrats, close the secret service/gov’t start again with the original document of independance before it becomes the document of interdependance,it’s probably too late any way the people who really run this system have decided to waste usa down the drain ,hense the movement of it’s production base to china, now usa power can be used against it self for a fasist state then as a world police force until it hands the baton over to china and it will be the next police of the world,[those chinese are so much more pliable, and cheap to run.]wake me up when ‘dayze of my life ‘comes on.

    17. Dr. Weezil Says:

      Pft… too little, too late.

    18. BGko Says:

      Time for a Continental Congress

    19. neagles Says:

      Dr. weezil.
      go back to the MSM.

    20. Jon Klement Says:

By the time an Impeachment process and a Senate Trial can run their course, won’t Bush’s term be over and a new President be in there anyway?

Isn’t it a little late in the term for this?

    21. lily Says:

No way, it’s never too late to answer for crimes committed and to send a strong message to the next President. Obey your oath of office and the Constitution as the people have mandated or risk being thrown out in disgrace or worse.

We the people must never allow our Government to go unchecked again. Get involved or at the very least stay informed so that action can be taken immediately.

Funny thing about power, it corrupts. Little do they know that curbing the use of power causes one to be more powerful, without the ego.

    22. Ian Says:

Too late or not – they deserve punishment and the people of this country deserve justice. This charade has gone on for far too long. We all want our country back and it is very reassuring to know that there are people in Washington that share the same sentiment.

    23. Jason Says:

This is all a dog n pony show in my eyes because yes, due process would (will?) take far too long. Unless you are actually talking about jailing bush, or perhaps fining him massively, or both, the actual impeachment won’t mean sh!t, pardon my french. Dubs will certainly be out of office by that time. If anyone was serious about doing this it should have been done 3 years ago. I think this is being done to placate the masses to a point. A lot of people knew Bush was out of control before those books by Woodward & others were written. Congress was too scared from the post 9/11 mindset to consider doing anything until most of the country was up in arms. Most of them weren’t ( & aren’t) going to do anything anyways. Bush doesn’t need to be impeached, he needs to be put on trial for war crimes, both foreign & domestic. THAT is what he should be held accountable for. As well as purposefully bungling a presidency & ultimately ghost riding our country into the ground. The founding fathers would have more than likely found Bush guilty of treason & have hung him in the gallows or had him executed by firing squad. If you look at the definition of the constituion & the bill of rights & then look at the punishment for the violation of such crimes & how they were handled at the time that’s what the likely outcome would be. I’m guessing George Washington thinks we’re all a bunch of big fat wet pu$$ies for even letting it get this bad.

    24. Dave Says:

      Wont be too late.

    25. Justin Case Says:

Jason, it’s never too late to impeach a US president. If s/he is convicted of the charges, s/he loses all privileges associated with the office and is no longer considered a former president. For example, he would lose his annual pension of $172,000.

    26. Jason Says:

Justin, seriously? Who really gives a sh!t about his government pension or the prestige of it!!!?? The guy’s rich beyond comprehension from the carlysle group & halliburton & the MIC. You are seriously missing the big picture dude, how about you go back & read what I wrote again but this time pull your head out of your a$$. Then get back to me.

    27. Nearadyn Says:

      @Nancy

      “Go back to sleep, everyone.”

you too, how do you type and sleep at the same time? Just wondering you sound like you enjoy momentary lapses of consciousness between your moments of typing!
