We got the chance to ask science fiction legend Ridley Scott for an exclusive update on his adaptation of Aldous Huxley’s classic dystopian novel Brave New World. While he’s still knee-deep in the details of the adaptation, he’s already got some strong opinions — including his view that Brave New World is closer to the truth than George Orwell’s 1984. So what does Scott have in mind for his Brave New World?
Why did you decide to adapt Brave New World into a movie, why do you want to make this story?
I didn’t choose to do it, someone came to me with it. In fact it was Leo’s [Leonardo DiCaprio's] production company that came to me with that. And it’s a big challenge, in fact. Because when you look at the two players or visionaries in the field, at that moment [it] would be Huxley and it would be Orwell and that was 60 or 75 years ago. They were predictions in a way, they weren’t aware at the time, but they were predictions. One could argue that Orwell kind of got there first and Orwell was closer to the notion of “big brother,” [with the] Cold War. But I don’t think that’s it, I think that big brother may be the internet. I don’t know but I think that’s the way it’s going to go. And so the Aldous Huxley’s [novel] literally what is called Brave New World that’s a very hard adaptation. So we’re still dancing with that one, but it’s a challenge.
(Article continues below)
Have you finished the script or are you close?
No, no no we’re still struggling with that one. I have 40 things on the go at once. But that’s a very important one. And sometimes, some surface faster than the others. It’s partly luck of the draw. Even with a good writer, he’ll do it and screw up. So then you go back to the table and start all over again, it’s hard. The hardest single thing is getting it on paper.
I’m very excited about Leo’s involvement.
Oh yeah, he is perfect for it.
So while we wait for what will undoubtedly be an amazing look into a classic story, and find out what kind of new spins Ridley will throw in (will there still the year of “our Ford”?) Scott’s new movie Body of Lies is out October 10th.

Wow, this would be awesome if it works out, Ridley Scott is a genius.

Of course they have this in the works. It’s what they are on the verge of trying to implement and that’s how cinema works.

DiCaprio’s too good looking to be, wossissname? Bernard. I thought that he was supposed to be short and weird looking, kinda’ not your average alpha male type…

Ridley wouldn’t be making any movies or television shows unless he was just another propagandist for the war-mongering elites. “I think the internet may be Big Brother”, says Ridley. Yeah, right! The internet is the apex of tyranny, not the government that is warring all over the planet, torturing with abandon, systematically stripping us of constitutional protections (from government depradations), and creating the current financial catastrophe. The guy is a complete dupe (or worse). The movie will be visually appealing drivel. And, oh yeah, total propaganda. Has he ever heard heard of Leni Riefenstahl?

Hey has anybody ever read the book “this perfect day” by Ira Levin.

Leni Riefenstahl’s book of photographs she shot in Africa after WW2 is Leonardo
DiCaprio’s mother Irmeline’s favorite book. So Leo knew how wonderful she was,
but had no clue WHO she was…All the propaganda about Leonardo’s family in the
mainstream press says his family were refugees from the wartorn Germany.
Right, just like Klaus Barbi was a refugee. His mother and her parents left
Germany because, unfortunately for them the nazis lost the war.
Everything you read about the DiCaprio family is propaganda.

Um, Brave New World has been adapted into a movie @ least 1 other time – 4 TV! WTF? Write something new – or top the other. Don’t do it all half-azzed like the ‘Americanize’ version of Femme Nikita, which blows.

If LOL ever bothered to actually read BNW, then LOL would know that the TV adaption of the book is very, very loose. They made Bernard Marx into a good guy for the tv version for crying out loud! And the ’savage’? They dressed him like Bon Jovi! Among other things wrong or conspicuously absent from the TV version is the mockery the book makes of religion. I could go on and on and on if I wanted to. What a piece a crap that movie was. Please, for the love of god, please remake BNW. Kudos to Ripley Scott.

They don’t need to do a remake of BNW. They only need to show ENDGAME at the cinemas. It’s much closer to reality than BNW. But anyway, Aldous Huxley showed with his book what he WANTED the world to look like. Google Julian Huxley, his brother. He is total New World Order trash.

You probably don’t even know what that means.
