Ritalin ADHD Drug Linked to 500 Percent Increased Risk of Sudden Death in Children

Just how dangerous are the amphetamine stimulant drugs prescribed for children with so-called ADHD? According to scientific research funded by the FDA and the National Institute of Mental Health, drugs such as Ritalin increase the risk of sudden death by five hundred percent among children and teens.
In these cases of sudden death, the child suddenly collapses and dies, only to be discovered later by parents or siblings. That’s what happened to Matthew Hohmann in 2004 (http://abcnews.go.com/Health/MindMo…), and according to this new research, it keeps happening to more and more children at a rate that’s 500 percent higher than would be considered typical for children of a similar age and health status.
ADHD drugs like Ritalin are, of course, amphetamine stimulants. They used to be sold on the street as “speed,” but now they’re prescribed by psychiatrists to children after a subjective diagnosis of a fictitious disease: ADHD — a “disorder” which has no measurable biological symptoms whatsoever.
Interestingly, the FDA banned ephedra, an herbal stimulant, after a handful of consumers died from consuming huge amounts of the herb in a desperate effort to lose weight. In that case, in banning the herb, the FDA announced “the risks outweigh the benefits,” declaring that “ephedra is not safe at any dose.”

In great contrast to that, even as children are literally dropping dead after taking ADHD drugs, the FDA is now insisting “the benefits are worth the risks.”
But what benefits, exactly, are they talking about? There are no trusted scientific studies whatsoever showing ADHD drugs like Ritalin have any long-term positive effect on children. In fact, the available studies show that ADHD drugs stunt the physical growth of children while impairing brain development. Children who take these drugs, in other words, are not merely at a 500 percent increased risk of sudden death; they are almost assured to be stunted in their brain and body growth by this dangerous amphetamine stimulant drug.
The only real benefits to ADHD drugs, it turns out, are the financial benefits to the drug companies. With hundreds of millions of doses of ADHD drugs sold around the world each year, Big Pharma is raking in the profits while children are dropping dead in their own homes. So when the FDA says “the benefits are worth the risks,” what they mean is that the financial benefits to the drug companies are worth the risks to the lives of children.
Pharmaceuticals pose an imminent danger to our children
When parents take their children to psychiatrists and are told to put them on drugs like Ritalin, most parents believe what the doctors say. They believe the FDA wouldn’t approve a drug so dangerous that it could kill their child without warning. And they believe the drug companies would never sell products that harm people.
But those beliefs are foolish. In reality, the FDA, the drug companies and the psychiatrists are all working in collusion, knowingly pushing dangerous, deadly drugs onto families for the sole purpose of generating profits. While children suffer and die, they cash in on the ADHD delusion, first by promoting a fictitious disease and then later through high-profit pharmaceutical quackery.

I was advised by a special ed elementary teacher to put my younger autistic son on ritalin. I refused to consider such drugging for his cognitive and behavioral issues. In Northern Virginia the practice of drugging children with serious behavioral problems, most likely caused by vaccine induced inflammation of the brain, was rampant, and I believe still is. My elder autistic son’s teenage girlfriend is on dozens of drugs with new drugs prescribed to alleviate the side effects of others.

When I was young and out of control, ritalin came in the form of a cuff upside my head. And, because then it was truly a ‘global community’, every adult who saw me doing something wrong had a responsibility to cuff me upside the head and then take me to my parents for the real punishment.
Yes, PUNISHMENT. Not discipline as that was what was supposed to keep me from doing the wrong things, but punishment when discipline failed to teach me that there were consequences to my misbehavior.
Ritalin came in a little pill my mom fed me called,”Go outside and play!” where critical neurological connections were forged in my brain as I was forced to deal with other children, fights, bullies, learning to mimic adults.
Some of us got lost, never made it home. But, that happens in any society at any time.
And then came the ’semi-privatization’ of our penal system. Where once the prison population, working by it’s own code, would take care of child molesters, now big business wants to keep them alive so they can get out, commit again and be sent back to the prison so it can collect government monies again.
Now our population is too scared to allow their children to play outdoors without a gps chip implanted into them because a child molester just moved in down the street from them.
The solution, of course, is an easy one. If you make the decision to have children, make the responsible choice to stay home with them. Teach them yourself instead of allowing big government to brainwash them. Take away the TV and the mind-numbing video games.

But mom is too busy and stressed and tired to parent a child these days – you know, affording the 2nd car, the work wardrobe, lunches out w/ co-workers, unless Mom is making mega bucks all she is accomplishing is “raising” defective, deficient children who “act out” (ADHD) for ATTENTION as their days are spent w/ a constant barrage of “strange caretakers” who do not give a rat’s ass about the child – and the child is very much aware of this. I can always spot a DAYCARE RAISED CHILD. Sad but true.

When I was a young child, I was hyperactive. I have an IQ of 165, and today own and run 3 businesses, in 2 different states. I am a licensed pilot, an engineer, have degrees in astronomy, chemistry, biology, and religion. If I had been “dumbed-down” with drugs, I’d probably be a wage slave, ringing-up groceries at the local store.

They told me I had to drug my granddaughter. I told my son in law I’d break his neck if he drugged her. Today she’s a chemical engineer and fluent in 4 languages.

My son is on Ritalin. He has dispraxia and ADHD. he’s tall for his age, and is one of the smartest kids in school. He gets monitored with a full check up x2 yearly and has an organic diet. My other child acts out ADHD symptoms. he does not have ADHD and I have refused to medicate. I have refused to increase the dosage for my other son. Which ever way it goes, my son being on ritalin has helped him in a lot of positive ways. In a lot of ways it’s scary and I watch him like a hawk to see that he’s okay. He’s never in a room by himself and is always with someone. I tried every known natural remedy to help my son, but his symptoms were severe. I just hope one day there will be something to help those who have dispraxia and ADHD or ADD and other related symptoms and correlate a link between the foods we eat and the behaviour. Especially for pregnant mothers.

Besides the absence of any clinical evidence of ADHD drugs’ efficiency, there’s also no clinical proof that ADHD itself exists to begin with. From Wikipedia article about ADHD: “One of the main controversies surrounds the fact that no proof of a brain abnormality exists and the cause of ADHD remains speculative. (…) Researchers from the McMaster University Evidence-based Practice Center identified five features of ADHD that contribute to its controversial nature: 1) it is a clinical diagnosis for which there are no laboratory or radiological confirmatory tests or specific physical features; 2) diagnostic criteria have changed frequently; 3) there is no curative treatment, so long-term therapies are required; 4) therapy often includes stimulant drugs that are thought to have abuse potential; and 5) the rates of diagnosis and of treatment substantially differ across countries.” It’s pretty easy to see that with very high probability ADHD itself is nothing but marketing ploy having no objective basis for diagnosis.

Children exhibit what every growing animal exhibits… energy to burn! It provides for the growth and development of not only the body, but of that most expensive of organs, the brain.
However, it is a real “brain abnormality” but, the ‘experts’ are studying the wrong subjects. Parents who’ve decided to have children but refuse to raise them themselves are the real subjects with problems mentally. They send their children to ‘federally mandated’ indoctrination facilities all day to come home too tired to spend any quality time with them so they allow nintendo and sega and the internet to ‘babysit’ while at home. Yes, this is over-simplified, but I’ve seen it so many times.

There is no evidence in the literature that stimulant medications such as Ritalin stunts growth in children. These medications do not cause heart problems but can aggrevate an existing or undiagnosed condition. It is standard practice to obtain an EKG and physical examination prior to starting these medications. A cardiology consultation is also requested if needed.
Not all children with ADHD have behavior problems and there is a definite genetic link. Children and teenagers with untreated ADHD have higher rates of dropouts, substance abuse and lower self esteem. Kids with higher intelligence can usually compensate in other ways and succeed without medication.
Some medications can impair cognition but not stimulants. Parents sometimes complain because their kid is like a “zombie.” This is due to being overmedicated and hyperfocused and lower doses are indicated. College students without ADHD abuse them in order to study for long periods of time. The US military have been given stimulants during combat beause it improves focus and attention.
Spreading fear about medication treatment and blaming parents does not help anybody. ADHD has been overdiagnosed but it is a real disorder and many have benefitted from treament.

Rebecca and others, see book by Dr. Daniel Amen “Healing A.D.D. ” there are 6 types of A.D.D. – IT IS REAL I am a 51 yr old adult who has discovered he has it. My 19 yr old daughter has it & has been on Ritalin through elementry, middle & high school. I fought medicating for 2 years before allowing it for my daughter. She is an “A” student & is going to college this fall.

I was diagnosed withh ADD as a kid. I was on Ritalin in middle school when it was quite fresh out of the lab. The dosage increased until the maximum allowed (imagine the taxation on my system) and then the doctor wanted me on something stronger. That’s when we quit the medication and changed my diet. I needed nourishment and love and acceptance. I was very sick and very depressed at the end of that and it took years to recooperate in part. My growth was stunted, as far as I can tell. (I didn’t grow after I started taking it.)
Now, I want everyone to know there is absolutely nothing wrong with me. I have many gifts to give and learn differently from many others. I’ve never liked to follow the crowd, and boy, did they hate that in school!
I know firsthand what it’s like to be on this drug, and wouldn’t wish it on anyone. It made me feel worse the whole time, but no one even listened to me. It was what everyone else wanted instead. It’s all about control. I was a total zombie, and giving up my fight. I don’t believe in ADD/ADHD. I believe in people who learn differently from others…people who refuse to be a number in the crowd. These people are so gifted, as with everone else with any diagnosed ‘disorder’.
How do you want to see it?
We’re not flawed. We were made in perfection. We just have a hard time seeing that sometimes. Gee, we’re so gullible!

Oh, I also wanted to mention that it made by issues even worse!!! But, no one noticed, even when I repeatedly told them! I was a shy kid on speed…it made me a nervous wreck. I had constant cold sweats and shaking and couldn’t sleep. I was gray in colour and looked anorexic and I had incredible heart issues as well, which I never attributed to this, but it makes sense to me, as it left me feeling cold and empty. I wanted to die the whole time. I would have died if I had stayed on it. I had almost nothing left. Seriously, I couldn’t even smile for years…physically. It took all hope and wonder from me.
Is that what any of you want for your precious kids?!?

Ritalin, aka crystal meth, is the drug companies money machine. However, do any of you remember Jack LaLane? The old fitness guy on tv. He had the same symptoms as ADHD. Quit sugar and white bread and started exercizing. Got over it. Also, at one time Arnold over in CA decided to change the school diets and took out those products. Same results. Maybe a bit too much sugar in our diet? Just remember when you were a kid and you had a soda, this for those of us over 30, and what happend? You got hyper. How many sodas do people have a day now? How many for back then? For me, it was about one a week. Now, it’s more than that a day for most people. Gee, could there be a link between nutrition and ADHD? Naw! Just give them more crystal meth. Oops, I meant ritalin.

Gina Pera is one of the many pro-stimulant posters on ADHD forums. She is a member of CHADD, and exemplifies the wanton disregard for children. The sudden death statistic attributed to Ritalin is only the tip of the ADHD medication controversy. The long term effects of stimulants are debilitating.
Big Pharma contributes to organizations such as CHADD to do their dirty work. and the work is dirty to the core. CHADD, the preeminent ADHD “advocacy” organization, promotes stimulant medications on their Website. They also send people like Gina Pera out into cyberspace in order to influence naive parents and ADHDers.
The American Psychiatric Association will issue its Bible on mental disorders in 2010. The APA, along with Big Pharma, were instrumental in getting ADHD listed as a disorder in the last manual. The collusion is easy to research.

i suffer from adha, it is very real. the clinical test i had displayed on a monitor which neurotransmitters were firing at which rate. dopamine mainly controls the motorlobe of the brain which is responsible for skills development, as well as interests. ritalin, is not the traditional street drug speed rather a molecular compound known as menthylphenidate, which stimulates the hypothalamus which produces amino acids (amino acids are comples molicules the lock into receptor pores on the sides of your cells to serve different functions), two important amino acids are dopamine and seritonum. seritonum is a chemical which helps the brain know right from wrong. menthylphenidate increases the amount of acids thet are released. 2 known side effects are in males, more testostorome is released so they can become more aggressive. in women more estrogen is released so they become more depressed. this is counteracted by either tofinal or catipress. the same effects of ritalin can occur if you have too much coffee or any stimulant, even strenuous excercise.

Mark, it sounds like you did a bit of research. Too bad higher education doesn’t lead to higher intelligence.
All of those actions in the brain stimulated by this drug and that… every one of those chemicals are released naturally in childhood in great quantities. That natural effects of this are increased self-respect, self-confidence, independence, ability to reason, to work problems with others diplomatically, etc,etc,etc…
Why would you need to suppress those natural chemical resleases with unnatural ones?

first of all gwscam is either too stupid or too nieve to sort fact from whatever someone told him, and to inspired, what i wrote in my post was a small amount of the 1000’s of pages of research i have done, i have delved into the depths of bio-chemistry and you have it in a nutshell, children do naturally release more chemicals because on average children are naturally more active, which was a study done in 2002 by dr traver parry at murdoch that demonstrates the simularities of effects between the chamicals in menthylphenidate and natural chemicals from better excercise and healty diet. so you will find that older children will be given a higher dosages. my only concern is that prolonged use of it can lead to more aggressive behaviour. this is where the catipress comes in, 6 months of catipress and i was off ritalin without side effects, and as for “Too bad higher education doesn’t lead to higher intelligence” i do have an iq of 148 and currently studying bio-chemistry and quantim mechanics.

i do believe that adah is over diagnosed, and i am aware of nearly 30 side effects, but that does not mean that it doesn’t exist, and that severe REAL cases should be treated, and it funny how people still “claim” there is no proof out there do some research, there is nearly 30 years research done on it not to mention i personally witnessed my results when i had clinical tests done, on average neurotransmitters fired slower in my motor lobe, frontal lobe, and temperal lobe, but normality in my optical lobe, the optical lobe doesn’t use dopamin as the main chemical to operate properly, and because of dopamine’s chemical makup i know that dopamine is a major conductor for neurotransmitter firing in the other 3 lobes. this is a topic i can’t be proven wrong on because i have too much research and evidence.
