A police force has apologised after 30 armed officers in a fleet of vehicles and a helicopter swooped on innocent band members as they prepared for a gig.
Staffordshire Police held four members of The Thirst at gunpoint, along with their manager and a friend – after a council CCTV operator falsely informed the force that the men had a handgun in their car.
Closer examination of the security footage showed the band – who have supported the Rolling Stones and the Sex Pistols – simply unloading their instruments and equipment and using jump leads to start one of their cars.
The force initially said the officers had acted ‘appropriately and proportionately’ but a senior officer later apologised unreservedly to the six men, from Brixton, south London.
