Ron Paul (R-TX), a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, ended his “Tea Party” money bomb Sunday at midnight. Mr. Paul succeeded in meeting his fundraising goal of $4 million. The Paul campaign plans on using the grassroots donations for additional campaign activities in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina. With the donation ticker still climbing, Mr. Paul has raised more than $4,048,000 as of 9am EDT Monday.
Ron Paul 2012 Campaign Manager John Tate urged supporters to contribute Sunday.
“The more resources we have, the more undecided voters in Iowa and New Hampshire we can contact through email, mail and TV to spread Dr. Paul’s message of liberty and free markets that has him skyrocketing in the polls in the early states,” Mr. Tate wrote.
“The establishment knows Ron Paul is the one candidate who is serious about cutting spending, standing up against assaults on our liberties, restoring sound money, and fighting for a return to constitutional government,” Mr. Tate added.
On December 16, 2007, Mr. Paul set an online fundraising record by raising more than $6.4 million in 24 hours. Mr. Paul’s 2007 money bomb was purposely launched on the anniversary of the 1773 Boston Tea Party. Although Mr. Paul’s 2011 “Tea Party” money bomb failed to break any online fundraising records, the Paul campaign has conducted a number of successful money bombs since the Texas representative launched his campaign in May.
Mr. Paul’s popularity in Iowa is surging. Mr. Paul won a Public Policy Polling poll of likely Iowa GOP caucusgoers Monday with 23 percent of the votes, marking the first time that the Texas congressman has led in an Iowa poll.
Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney garnered 20 percent of the votes for a second place finish and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, whose momentum may be tempering, pulled in 14 percent of the votes for a third place finish.
Mr. Paul has launched a major ad blitz in Iowa. Mr. Paul’s ad blitz includes mail, radio and TV ads. In addition, the Paul campaign will deploy 500 members of the “Youth for Ron Paul” organization to knock on doors and make phone calls for the Texas congressman.
