Ron Paul supporters are kicking off a fundraising drive billed as a debate day “money bomb” for the potential presidential candidate.
The goal of the fundraising push – patterned after the original money bomb that put the Texas congressman on the map in the 2008 race – is to showcase Paul’s strength the day of the first debate of the White House campaign of the season.
“The first nationally televised Republican presidential debate in the 2012 election cycle will be held on May 5, 2011 on Fox News. Because of this, it is imperative to showcase Ron Paul as the leading frontrunner in the race. On May 5, 2011, we will hold an online money bomb in support of Ron Paul for President 2012,” organizers wrote on the debateday.com website.
In February, Paul raised more than $700,000 for his PAC in 24 hours during a President’s Day money bomb.
