Ron Paul Warming To Potential VP Slot? morgan paul 3.1.12

Congressman Ron Paul appeared on CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight Thursday and dropped a significant hint that he would consider accepting a spot on the 2012 GOP ticket if it was offered to him.

Paul has vowed to stay in the GOP nomination race going into the national convention, and he still believes he can win it. However, there has been increasing talk of Paul potentially being on the ticket, regardless of whether he secures the nomination or not.

When asked by Morgan whether he would take a position in a Mitt Romney administration if it was offered to him, the Congressman shot back:

“I’ll have to wait and see. Maybe I’ll have to ask him if he wants to help me when I get in.”

Morgan conceded that he was hasty to discount Paul’s chances of winning, explaining that he framed the question in that way because he believes the Republican party would “be mad” not to use Paul in some form, given his popularity.

“In every state I always win among young people aged 18-30.” Paul pointed out. “If they are thinking about the future or even the Fall election, young people are very very important, and I am the one person who can take young people away from Obama.”

Paul also said that he found it encouraging when comparing his popularity against the president. “We do better than the rest of them.” the Congressman said.

Paul supporters have mixed feelings about the possibility of the Congressman running under someone like Mitt Romney, given that it is likely Paul would have to make concessions on policies he has consistently stood by for decades.

Some supporters believe that such an eventuality would taint Paul’s legacy as the ultimate anti-establishment politician and obstruct the path those who are set to follow in his footsteps. Others believe any such offer to Paul would be part of an establishment attempt to neutralize his influence.

Nevertheless, with the chances of a brokered convention being higher than in previous years, and the likelihood that Paul will have a significant amount of delegates at the RNC, the eventuality is far from inconceivable.

During the Piers Morgan interview, Paul also once again addressed the conspiracy theory that he and Romney were already working together.

“There is a theory going around,” Morgan said, “that you’re going a bit easy on Mitt Romney. And there are all sorts of potential reasons for that I won’t bore you with, but is it true? I mean, are you and Mitt Romney in bed together?”

“No,” said Paul. “I mean, one of our ads on right now challenges him for being, you know, a flip-flopper. I think you guys are desperate for news if that’s the big news, because there’s nothing to it.”

“Just because you talk to somebody doesn’t mean you have to have a deal going.” he continued.

“I would say that politicians pretty much come together sort of like a family,” he added. “You know the old saying, that you can fight with your siblings, but don’t let the neighbors come in.” the Congressman added.

Paul also declined to be drawn on questions from Morgan on Rick Santorum’s recent gaffes and controversial statements.

Paul also defended his campaign ad ‘Three of a Kind’, which Morgan described as being “down and dirty” and “like a promo for Mad Max.”

“I think it’s legitimate, if somebody is all over the place and they’re changing their views, and they voted for big government, and the other three candidates have.” Paul stated.
