Ron Paul’s California write-in votes will be tallied

The renegade Republican didn’t win the GOP nomination, but he did qualify as a write-in and many of his backers are expected to vote for him.
Republican iconoclast Ron Paul’s legion of Orange County supporters can write his name on the ballot and rest assured those votes will be tallied.
Paul is not one of the six party nominees who appear in the presidential election-portion of California’s ballot, but he is one of four to qualify as a write-in choice. That’s thanks to San Luis Obispo’s Gail Lightfoot, who was in Anaheim to visit family and gave me a ring to make sure I knew. Lightfoot was the one who handled the paperwork and gathered the 55 required signatures to make Paul official.
“I’m not going to vote for the lesser of two evils,” Lightfoot said. “I believe in justice and freedom, and I want to vote for what I believe in.”

Not coincidently, Lightfoot qualified herself to be Paul’s running mate in California. She’s a Libertarian, and has run for U.S. Senate, but is turning her back on her party this year.
“I may get more votes as Ron Paul’s running mate than I did as a Libertarian candidate,” Lightfoot said. “And a lot of Libertarians are going to be upset with me.”
Other voices, choices
Libertarian – and former Republican – Bob Barr is among the six party nominees listed on the ballot in California. So isAlan Keyes, nominee of the American Independent Party – with Orange County’s own Wiley Drake as his running mate.
“There’s a gentleman named Alan Keyes,” said Joe Wurzelbacher, better known these days as Joe the Plumber. “I have no doubt he’d probably fix this country in two years.”
The American Independent Party has been the California arm of the national Constitutional Party. But the AIP was particularly independent this year, which forced the Constitutional Party to field its candidate, Chuck Baldwin, as a write-in.
Another write-in is Socialist Workers’ James Harris. Finally, there’s Frank Moore, who wants free public transportation and – in place of welfare and Social Security – and guaranteed minimum income of $1,000 per person.
Branding the candidates
If raising the most money meant you would have the most successful campaign, Mitt Romney would be running against Barack Obama.
But does running the best campaign lead to the best man winning?
Maybe it does, said Cheri Hendry, CEO of the Irvine-based marketing company Brandtailers. While policy and leadership issues may be more important to the nation’s well-being than a campaign advertising strategy, Hendry said the races offer the candidates a trial run at operating on a national scale.
“They hire people for their administrations just like they hire people for their campaigns,” she said. “But ultimately, they’re responsible. They can’t point at the campaign team afterward and say, ‘It was your fault.’ He hired them.”
Hendry, a Republican who was undecided on a candidate when I spoke to her last week, has some very specific critiques on each campaign’s success in marketing its candidate.

I just wrote in Ron Paul this morning!! I also believe that picking the “lesser” of 2 evils is ridiculous. I am convinced that making a choice based on what our parties shoves down our throats is not a choice at all. Ron Paul believes in our constitution and for that he has my vote! If more people stood up for what they believed in and not what the newscasters tell them to believe in we might be able to rebuild this country back into what it stood for at one time. Ron Paul wont win but I feel better for having done what I feel is right.

You are right. The lesser of two evils is still voting for evil. Vote for good, not evil. Vote for anyone but Republicans and Democrats who have outsourced our jobs and wrecked our economy.
I would have written in Ron Paul but he endorsed Chuck Baldwin so where I am I can write him in. Bob Barr is not on the ballot where I am because of intentional state worker incompetence.

I voted for Baldwin because I know it will at least be tabulated and not thrown out.
It’s my voice, the only one they listen to. I hated to even vote but I had to try to nuke Ander Crenshaw for supporting the bailout ripoff.

Chuck Baldwin didn’t make the California ballot even though RP has endorsed him. There is Bob Barr on the Libertairian ticket, though. Whatever,… we need to stop the rising fascism of Obama. I could even deal with McCain. At least I know I’ll be able to keep my guns. We’re going to need them when the lockdown comes.

I wrote in Ron Paul on my ballot!….I was not voting for either of these idiots….We need someone who would uphold the constitution and there is no other better person to run this country except Ron Paul…. I am not happy w/ all these people who think they have to settle for one of the two main jerks running…My husband and I voted by way of an absentee ballot which have never done before….The ballot here in Joplin, MO is not a ballot for a write in…I repeat…Some cities cannot write in there choice unless they vote on an absentee ballot…I want my vote to count even he doesn’t win…I will not compromise my beliefs by SETTLING for HAVING to vote for only who is on the damn ticket!….MO Patriot of the USA all the way!….I suggest everone insist on a paper ballot if it comes to that at the polls if they want to write someone in for their vote….

Writing in Ron Paul has just as much chance as any of the other 3rd party candidates. ABSOLUTELY NONE. There is no difference between Obamination and McFool. Any vote for either is a vote for the same party. There are no lesser of 2 evils with these 2. Thy are both equally evil. I wrote in Ron Paul.

I just voted and I wrote in Ron Paul. This way in the upcoming weeks/months/years when the shit hits the fan I can have a clean conscience knowing that I made the right choice… Is there a choice?
But, if monkeys flew out of my ass and Ron Paul did get elected there is still no way that one man could fix all that is wrong with this country. We are going to have to do it ourselves before its too late. How?

My girlfriend refused to vote Chuck. I suggested him, but, she saw that he was pro-life. Now, I’m a Catholic and Libertarian, so find that a hard call. BUT, it really is a moral issue, and, should government make decisions about moral issues? Should not the woman decide? I would focus on how inflation and other government policies breaking up the family make it harder to have a child, now, that would have a lasting impact, massively reducing abortions. I do worry that banning abortion would be like prohibition, that criminal gangs would take over, because there will always be demand for it.
We did have a hard debate about late pregnancies tho, and, as ever, the barrier gets grayer and grayer, finishing off concluding that a fetus capable of being independent on cesarean should be protected, but again, who makes the judgment? And, with modern science, we can raise a child from test tube. But in the end, we erred on government not having power over the mother’s body. There may be a case for the father, or parents being able to sue to have the child delivered after a given period in the pregnancy, if they wish to be parent, but, again, that would be private courts, not government making the decision.
So, in the end, being Libertarian means tough choices, and, desiring government to take control over morality just means more big government, so, I can understand her position and why she, as a woman, could not vote Ron Paul’s chosen one.

Ron Paul endorsed Chuck Baldwin and is not seeking votes in the General Election. Those who certified him as a write-in did so without his consent. From Pa. I to did a write in for Ron Paul. When I left the polls I remined everyone that they too can do a write-in!!!!!! This is the first time in my 55 years I voted for a president. I voted from my heart. I’m a black man I would never vote for someone because of their color. Unfortantly most blacks will vote for Barack ’cause he’s black. But we as a people been held back for so long that they believe this is a victory dance for them but it will be a desaster for them and all of Us. I love Ron Paul ’cause for the first time I felt someone who would be for the People of America!!!!!!!!!

Yea I voted For ol Doc Paul. Wrote the Boy in. And heck if I dont feel better for it. Guess when the turd hits the air conditioner I can Question my asleepole friends how wonderful all these years have been sinking in a country of lesser evils. Dont get me wrong now I like less evils, but most today are told what to think, and most do not protest or deviate from. Whatever happens we the Ron Paul supports warned you all. Yes! I WROTE IN Ron Paul’s name today on my ballot. I was not surprised his name was not on the ballot, but with the Write In line staring me in the face, I took my chance and will all falcuties in tack, voted my conscience.
