  • Russia: Iran could not build A-bomb

    Tuesday, December 09, 2008

A senior Russian diplomat says that even if Iran sought to make a nuclear weapon, it does not have the necessary “means” to do so.

“One cannot say today that Iran can create nuclear weapons,” head of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s department of European cooperation, Vladimir Voronkov, was quoted by ITAR-TASS news agency as saying Tuesday.

Voronkov said Russian intelligence agencies confirm that Iran does not have the “means” to develop a military nuclear program.

Russia, helping Iran construct a 1,000-megawatt nuclear power plant in the southern city of Bushehr, has worked closely with Iran in the field of nuclear technology over the past decade.

His remarks come shortly after US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said on Sunday that Iran “is still pursuing quite clearly the technology that can lead to a nuclear weapon.”

Under the allegation that a nuclear Tehran would pose an existential threat to Israel; Washington and Tel Aviv have threatened Iran with the use of military action should the country continue its enrichment program.

Iran insists its activities are directed at the civilian applications of the technology and are in line with the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) — the treaty grants all signatories the right to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes.

Meanwhile, the Bush administration’s carrot-and-stick policy toward Iran has resulted in three rounds of United Nations Security Council sanctions resolutions against Tehran — which Moscow also approved of.

    1. Michael Says:

Iran is estimated to have enough fissure material for a bomb at the end of next year. Now fissure material is the largest and hardest part to obtain. It will either be developed by them or purchased on the black market. The next step is the bomb design and delivery systems. Iran already possesses technology for the delivery system and is just in need of a bomb design. So estimates are 2-3 years before Iran has a nuke.

    2. MADDOG Says:

Let’s give them the recipe to build one so we could have a reason to attack them. You gotta love our government’s policies, we play fair game!!!!!!

    3. COLT45 Says:

Michael the word your looking for is “FISSIONABLE” material. A fissure is a crack running through the Earth. In order to get enough Uranium massive mines are needed and the ore known as “YELLOW CAKE” is brought up. This material is a combination of particles, elements and stone. This YELLOW CAKE needs to be processed and this takes equipment that is pretty large and it would be difficult to conduct such an operation in the open. The material is spun in large centrifuges. Fluids are used and there need to be massive storage tanks to keep the Tritiated water, etc. The YELLOW CAKE would resemble a mountain of ore.

    4. DRC Says:

“The critical mass of Pu239,(Plutonium), is a little over 2 kilograms.” -according to Theodore Taylor. (That’s a globe of metal that is approximately 10 inches in diameter.) Plutonium is a by-product of nuclear fission- removing it from spent reactor fuel is a straight chemical process. Any country with a nuclear reactor, has access to Plutonium. Anybody who really wants some, can either buy it on the black market, or steal it. The easiest delivery system, is via a knapsack on your back! ( The basic design of an atomic bomb, is on the internet).
      Good luck!

Bizarro you idiot! Why spam so much?

    7. HAHAHA Says:

True, they can’t, & that’s Y Russia SELLS nukes 2 Iran :) Which Iran prolly’ has many of which sitting in the USA right now ready 2 B detonated if they R nuked themselves. They R only the size of a suitcase U know.

    8. Eating Sarah Palin's Sweet, Sweet Muffin Says:

Of COURSE Russia will sell Iran what it needs as long as Iran has the money. U.S. troops in Iraq have been facing off against Russian night-vision equipment and IR surface-to-air missiles for awhile now. I remember reading in a Jane’s defense report that the KGB was pissed off after the Chechen rebels blew up that Russian school because, after the crime scene analysis was complete, the explosives used had come from the Russian military and been sold to Afghan arms dealers who then sold them to the Chechen rebels.

But, um, we could always try peace, you know, just for a little while. I’m tired of U.S. troops fighting corporate wars just so Cheney and his ilk can get richer and fatter.

    9. George Hayduke Says:

Several countries have nukes. Maybe the world would be a better place if everyone had nukes. Sorta like if everyone had to carry a handgun at all times, crime would disappear, or so the theory goes.

    10. mathias Says:

They want to defend themselves , so what ? They know they can’t use it or they will get demolished. All the suckers who buy in to the lie of the suppressor, the roman empire, with the Vatican at there site, ruling like they did for 2000 years, they are the real danger, hypnotized fools, too ignorant to read, watching the almighty white eye all day

    11. Hal Says:

I have to wonder if the NWO is more afraid of potential weapons or the cheap electricity that can raise the standards of smaller countries and make them more energy independent.

    12. denise martens Says:

I did not get your point on this.
