Russia has slammed claims that its forces are continuing to attack Georgia after announcing an end to the five-day war in the region.
Georgia’s acting ambassador to Britain has told Sky News Russian jets were bombing civilian targets in Georgia despite Moscow’s announcement that it was calling off its troops.
Georgei Badridze said that Russian bombers had hit targets including a hospital in the town of Gori, villages away from the combat zone and a minibus carrying civilians.
He said the strikes had been carried out after the announcement by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev that the military offensive to protect South Ossetia had been called off.

“We’re talking about strikes from helicopter gunships which could not have mistaken these places for anything else,” he said.
“If their plan to totally destroy Georgian statehood fails at this stage, they (want to) make us bleed economically.”
Witnesses also reported seeing 135 Russian military vehicles driving through Georgia toward Khodori Gorge, part of the breakaway region of Abkhazia controlled by Georgia.
Russia’s defence ministry slammed the claims of continuing military action as “provocations”, and Russian reports said Georgian forces were shooting at them.
A Russian news agency reported that the ministry had admitted some shots were being fired, but only under “provocation”.
The five-day conflict was started when Georgia tried to take control of the pro-Russian province of South Ossetia.
Casualty figures given by each side vary widely, with Russia claiming thousands of deaths and Georgia hundreds.
Moscow accused Georgia of “war crimes” in the area, saying thousands of civilians had been killed before it stepped in and comparing the situation to the war in Kosovo in the 1990s, when European forces stepped in to protect a persecuted minority.

@Everyone
I love how the western media relies on the ignorance of its audience to pull off its propaganda.
“Witnesses also reported seeing 135 Russian military vehicles driving through Georgia toward Khodori Gorge”
This is misleading on two levels first, both sides have the same vehicles, so seeing them move in Georgia is no surprise. Secondly even if they ARE Russian, they are moving OUT of Georgia and into Abkhazia, which confirms Russia’s statement that they are withdrawing!
So at best this is confirmation of the Russian claims of withdrawal, at worst it is Georgia STILL trying to attack, but this article implies that it is evidence that the Russians are lying!

Both sides are notorious for lying.
So who knows whats really going on.
Eitherway, i think their both retarded getting this many people killed over a dispute of such a small area.
But honeslty i think its in russia’s best interest at this point just to continue fighting till they overthrow the georgian goverment.
I wonder if they will, or if they will back down and stay back down.
rellying on the damage they’ve inflicted so far to prevent future hostility.

What is the difference between a “dis-aportionate attack” and a “surge of forces”? About an extra 30,000 troops in the “surge”.
Don’t even mention the 100,000 civilian sucurity troops who are amune from prosecution. Wake up, before the surge is on you and yours. Read don’t just accept your own ignorance to a subject.

“Both sides are notorious for lying.”
Who isn’t?
“So who knows whats really going on.”
Not anyone watching the western media, that’s for sure.
“Eitherway, i think their both retarded getting this many people killed over a dispute of such a small area.”
That’s where you miss the point Georgia isn’t just some small country – it is the Russian Army’s main route of advance into Iran and the rest of the Middle East. Russia just proved that if they want to use it, they can and will. The US just got a MASSIVE shock.
“But honeslty i think its in russia’s best interest at this point just to continue fighting till they overthrow the georgian goverment.”
Actually, no. It is in Russia’s best interest to prove that what they are saying is true. That is, that they have no intention of occupying Georgia. If they do that they send a very clear message – THE US LIES, WE DON’T.
Unlike Bush, Medvedev and Putin are smart enough to know this.

@Steve
More importantly, what is the difference between what Russia did in Georgia and what the US/NATO did in Serbia? The answer is, the US/NATO slaughtered thousands of civilians and flattened a good portion of Serbia, demanded regime change and then set up permanent military bases.

Why doesn’t anyone post the truth? The war has to do with a pipeline from the Caspian basin through Turkey to Israel. Russia wants the oil from the Caspian basin to flow through their pipeline.
Iraq’s oil now flows through the pipeline that Rothschild built for Israel long ago. Saddam shut the pipeline down, nationalized Iraq’s oil and said if you want to buy Iraqi oil, you buy it with Iraqi currency. That is why the US invaded Iraq and why Israel should not be allowed to control the US, it is destroying our country. Zionism is a racist global crime syndicate and nothing more and is the reason the Jews have been nothing but trouble for 4000 years.
Whatreallyhappened.com is not a propaganda outlet for the zionist and Rivero actually covers the truth behind the conflict unlike Alex Jones.

“Why doesn’t anyone post the truth? The war has to do with a pipeline from the Caspian basin through Turkey to Israel. Russia wants the oil from the Caspian basin to flow through their pipeline.”
Bollocks. The war was NOT about some penny ante pipeline, it was MUCH more serious than that!
It was about reasserting Russian dominance in the region and sending a clear message to the US and it’s allies like Georgia, Poland and the Czech Republic that Russia is more than capable of slapping down these small countries if it wants, regardless of any assurances the US may have made.
It was also about Russia defending its friends, sending another message to the US, and Russia’s allies, that Russia was willing to fight to protect its allies, including Iran.
Finally it also demonstrated to the US that Russia could mobilise a very credible force in a very short time, and get them on the road to Iran if the need should arise (that road passes through Georgia).
If it was about the pipeline, they could simply have bombed the crap out of it and never even bothered to send tanks in.
