Russia’s Dmitry Medvedev has sent a draft law to the country’s parliament applying for an extension to the presidential term.
In his state of the nation address last week, the Russian leader said he would seek a constitutional change that would extend the president’s term from four years to six.
He added it was needed to give the head of state more time to push through reforms.

However, experts say such an alteration would only apply to future presidents.
The change raises the possibility of Mr Medvedev’s predecessor returning to power for another 12 years.
