Tony Blair was defiant today as he admitted he was at one with the U.S. that Saddam Hussein had to be toppled following the September 11 attacks.
The former prime minister, who sneaked into the official inquiry into the conflict through a rear entrance this morning, said the atrocity changed everything about the perceived threat of Iraq.
‘We have to deal with his WMD and if that means regime change so be it,’ he revealed he told President Bush at their summit in the U.S. in April 2002.
But he denied he secretly ‘signed in blood’ to war at that meeting, almost a year before the invasion, insisting that the means of removing Saddam was left open.
