US authorities expect as many as four million people to attend Barack Obama’s inauguration as president.
Officials in Washington DC had expected a million people to watch the January 20th event.
But based on demand for tickets they now believe four times the original number will try to attend.
The huge number of people who will flood into the US capital is expected to present a logistical nightmare, swamping the underground system and roads.

All hotels within a 60 miles distance of the capital have already been booked.
As the 2009 presidential inauguration draws closer, all eyes are on potential performers.
And if volunteers are needed, “Crazy In Love” singer Beyonce says she’ll happily raise her hand.
‘I know I’ll definitely be there [at the swearing in],’ she told one US magazine. ‘I want to be there to witness it.’
As for performing, she added, ‘Of course I’d love to. Who wouldn’t?’
Secret Service agents have already begun security arrangements when Obama will be sworn in as the 44th US President.
Authorities plan to install giant TV screens around Capitol Hill to allow spectators to watch the event.
