Security Tightened At Food Stamp Offices After Weapons Arrest

“It could have been a tragedy, another one,” St. John Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre said.

Security was already tight at emergency food stamp sites; but after Tuesday’s close call, there’s increased presence.

Investigators say 46-year old Mark Knight became enraged when he was denied benefits.

“I think he snapped, he went crazy. He probably waited for a very long time to be Told, you don’t qualify,” applicant Wendy Verbest said.
