Federal officials are teaming up with sports leagues throughout the country to ask fans to keep an eye out for suspicious activity.
U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano met with officials from the MLB, MLS, NBA, NHL and NFL Monday to announce an expandsion of a public service ad campaign including print and video public service announcements at sports venues. She said she expects thousands of fans to see the ads.
“Reports from individual citizens have time and time again helped us prevent danger,” Napolitano said in a news conference Monday. “It’s a simple and effective way to raise public awareness and understanding — looking for things that just don’t seem normal.”
