Sonoma County Sheriff’s deputies shot and killed a teenager, who was carrying a replica assault rifle, but a weapon that deputies thought was real.
The Santa Rosa Press Democrat identified the boy as Andy Lopez, 13. He was reportedly in a field near the intersection of Mooreland and W. Robles Avenues in Santa Rose around 3 p.m. Tuesday.
The sheriff’s office said the deputies called for backup and repeatedly asked the teen to drop the gun. When he refused, they allegedly shot him several times.
