It’s not good enough for the University of California to investigate allegations of misconduct by university police, says state Sen. Leland Yee, D-San Francisco.
UC Davis Chancellor Linda Katehi has said a campus task force will investigate the Friday night incident in which kneeling and sitting students at a campus protect were pepper sprayed by campus police.
“Chancellor Katehi’s task force is a sham with the fox guarding the hen house,” says Mr. Yee. “Only a truly independent investigation – absent the influence of her office or the police department – is in order. Students and taxpayers deserve to know what she knew and when, and what direction she gave to campus police.”
Mr. Yee also faults a plan by UC President Mark Yudof to consult the chancellors of the ten campuses about proper law enforcement reaction in future protests.
