Statesville suspect dies after Taser hits in jail

A Statesville man died after being shocked multiple times by Tasers at the Iredell County jail over the weekend, sources say.

Anthony Davidson, 29, was unresponsive when he was taken to Iredell Memorial Hospital Saturday afternoon. He was put on life support and died late Sunday night, police said.

His death is the second Taser-related death this year in the Charlotte area. In March, 17-year-old Darryl Wayne Turner, died after Charlotte-Mecklenburg police used a Taser on him at a Food Lion store in Charlotte.

The officers involved in Davidson’s arrest – at least two from the Statesville Police Department – were put on administrative duty until the State Bureau of Investigation completes a probe into the incident.

Assistant Chief Tom Anderson of the Statesville Police Department said he was unaware how many officers or deputies may have fired their Tasers and the duration of the shocks.

But a source familiar with the investigation told the Observer that Davidson was shocked at least three times by several different law enforcement officers. Family members told the Observer that police said he had been shocked at least twice.

The incident began about 3 p.m. Saturday at a Statesville grocery store. Employees at the Food Lion on N.C. 115 told police they tried unsuccessfully to stop Davidson from leaving the store with a full cart of groceries after his debit card was declined. He left the parking lot without the groceries, police said.

   Non-Lethal force like batons, pepper spray and tasers, are only designed to be nonlethal if used properly…If you hit someone in the head with a baton repeatedly, pepper spray or mace a child, elderly person or someone with respiratory problems, or use a taser on someone over and over again they can die.

   Lethal and non-lethal weapons are not really the issue here. Anything that can be picked up is a lethal weapon in the hands of a person with the intent to kill.

   You know what? I am numb to this, it’s okay now. I don’t mind being killed by my local thug cop. It’s okay everyone, we will be going to a Godly place, love your servitude. If it’s my time to go, I guess God has a plan for me. He gave me life, so he can assign anyone he wants to kill me, for God of course.    ALL AMERICANS NEED TO FILE LAW SUITES FOR WRONGFUL DEATH OR CRUEL AND UNUSUAL PUNISHMENT.

   MAKE IT COST HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS EACH AND EVERYTIME THEY PULL A TAZER OUT.

   SOONER OR LATER THE COSTS WILL OUT WEIGH THE BENIFITS.

   Just look at the video of Martin Lee Anderson from florida. There is a 30 minute video of this young man being gaged and beaten by police. All the police were cleared of any wrong doing after the Prosecutor was unable to prove any guilt of any kind. ps….The prosecutor in the case against the officers was hand selected by Jeb Bush. Any questions? I am starting to wonder if there is a secret slush fund paid to officers who can get away with murdering black men? Nothing would surprise me after this Bush regime.

   Oh, but tasers are NON-LETHAL!! He must have had a pre-existing condition or something… Wait a minute, he MUST have been a real threat to the police like that 16 year old child that was tasered 19 times with a broken back.
   Seriously now…
   Let’s face it folks, this won’t stop until we make tasers illegal. Does anyone know where to start? I’m a computer tech, and I don’t know much about getting laws passed. Has anybody considered this?
   If this is a government by “we the people, for we the people” then we the people must do something about it, and sooner rather than later.
