Student Vigilante Group Armed With Guns Searching For Bad Guys Near UW Campus

A group of University Of Washington students are being called vigilantes after they armed themselves with handguns and tried to set up patrols on University Avenue and other areas around campus where students have been attacked over the past year.
Stanley Luong and Luis Garcia have armed themselves. Both are assault victims. Luong says, “Some guy just broke down the window, reached in and unlocked the door and came in and robbed us.”
Garcia says, “Four men jumped out of a car. They assaulted me and threw my girlfriend to the ground and they attempted to rob me. Two times I’ve been jumped. I said it’s not going to happen a third time.”
So both got a concealed license permit and bought handguns. Now they walk with pistols in their pockets…looking for the bad guys.

Luong says, “I don’t know if it’s illegal to walk around and be bait. I’m kind of fishing for robbers.”
Garcia says, “I believe the police they come after the fact. They aren’t there when the incident is occurring I believe this is just the fastest means of protecting oneself and those around you and so I decided to take that measure and execute my second amendment to bear arms.”
According to the UW Daily Newspaper, there have been ten assaults and robberies in the area in just the past two months. The students also created a Facebook page with more than two dozen friends.
“I was just kind of sick of it and I watched a lot of movies like taxi driver and vigilante movies and I decided, why not make a Facebook” says Luong.

Anyone want to wager how long this will last before the thugs in black [a.k.a. police] break this group up and arrest members?
Anyone remember good old days where police might actually stake a place out and wait for the criminals instead of writing tickets and harassing the citizens? Of course we cannot rely on the police to risk their “safety” to protect us anyways, so what do they even care.

If you rely on police to protect you, you will be a victim. Police only arrive after something bad has happened.
The cops probably just got a sore ass because normal citizens are more effective law enforcement than they are.
Given the revolving door of justice that released violent criminals back onto the streets to commit more crimes, So that it makes judges and prosecutors look like they have a better conviction record, i cant blame people for wanting to protect themselves.
People are tired of being victimised, kept prisoners in their own neighborhoods, by thugs and assailants. Our Law Enforcement is toothless at best. If you want to be a victim, rely on police to protect you.
If you want to defend yourself support your second amendment.
Criminals will not find armed citizens easy prey.

Firmly Agreed! Police only prey on the innocent and helpless. Their prescence does deter crime somewhat but they very rarely are put in a position to protect. Once I got beat up by nazi thugs on speed and walked past a police station with my shirt all tattered and asked an officer for help. He quietly looked away as if I wasn’t there.
I learned my lesson then and its held true by observation.

The police are no longer even employed to protect you. They are employed to generate revenue and regulate behavior.
The are trained to treat you like subjects that must obey their every command and they are very rarely in any position to protect you, even if that were their true purpose.
Every man needs to take it upon himself to protect his own and his family’s well being. Carry a handgun and keep a shotgun in your home at the very least. And get trained to use them well. The more citizens that do so, the less bold and prevelant violent criminals will be.

It is every Citizen’s responsibility to keep Society in Order. Firearms help keep the nastier elements in check. I obey Heinlein’s Law- “If you see a poisinous snake on a path, and don’t kill it, you are at least partially responsible for any unwary person, who comes after you, and gets bitten”. I did paraphrase that.

You’re absolutely right! Same thing here in Serbia, only there is no way I can get a CCW permit for my handguns, even though the crime rates peaked in the last two years or so. According to the law, I can use a gun only if someone tries to shoot me in my own home! But only if the perpetrator uses a gun! I really wonder what morons wrote that law and at the same time introduced annual tax for every piece of weapon owned.
But law is there to be broken, right?

They need to set up video cameras as well to get the criminals on video, along with the date and time. If there is a shoot out, the criminals are just going to say the students fired first. Even if the video does capture the criminals, they can wriggle out of it, by claiming that since there is no time and date on the video, there was no crime committed at the time the video was made.

They definitely should not advertise that they are looking for people because this could be used against them. They should just do it without saying anything. It is NOT a crime if you have a CWP. In WA, the local cops HAVE to give you a CWP, unless you have a felony record, or a “domestic” restraining order. I have MANY complaints about WA, but “the right to keep and bear” is in the state Constitution. Also, a pre-emption law- no local law can restrict the state gun laws.
As for stuffing a Glock into the front of your pants- I hope that there isn’t a round in the chamber. I’ve carried a Glock for over 15 years now. Damn near perfect weapon.

Sorry, danny- I am in the weapons business, for two decades. I admit, I was a hard sell on the Glock, having been raised on a 1911. But after I finally got my first one, I was convinced. I have one, in .40S&W, that has over 200K rds. through it. It is still a tack driver. You obviously have ignorant, uncollaborated biases. The new glass-reinforced resins, with a few metal braces, are FAR superior to steel or Aluminum.

As I said, I was “skeptical” that a “plastic frame” could stand-up like steel, until ALL of my friends have them (a bunch of NOTORIOUS INTERNATIONAL IPSC WINNING TYPES!!)(YES, that is who I am!)- so I finally got one. A friend laid her Glock 23 on top of mine (basically same L&H, slightly thicker), and asked how many rounds did mine hold? Uhhh 6+1? She said hers was 13+1. OK, I’m NOT stupid- 2x firepower, lighter, same size?? So I got one for my b’day, next month. And was very nicely suprised! A few years later, I meet Herr Glock, und his son, Robert. Concealment is not the answer, we need to walk around with firearms in full view, properly holstered. This will send a clear message to criminals, they will see the guns. OK i like the proactive mentality, however most of these nra courses on how to handle a firearm are not combat related…i can fully understand not wanting to be a victim, but a weapon in untrained hands is more dangerous to the untrained person then the bad guy(s)…and you can tell they are not well trained the way they carry their weapons, putting a loaded glock down your pants is the best way to get a 40 cal vasectomy, not to mention not really a good fast draw position.
so i salute you in your desire to defend yourself but going out looking for trouble is only going to get you hurt or killed…remember your looking for people willing to be violent, you have to be willing and able to be jsut as violent as the bad guy. remember a threat is only as good as the intent to carry it out.

That’s what men do; form posses if the lawman isn’t doing the job. It creates a potentially scary and vigilante scenario, as it becomes too easy for an innocent to become one of the posse’s unintended victims. Official security and police need to step in and beef up patrols and catch the bad guys so the regular folks can get some sleep.

if getting robbed, shoot first, interrogate the corpse later. good for them for going the legal way of getting a cwp first. an armed society is a polite society. my view is we all need to carry, whether concealed or otherwise. here in my home state, the people are permitted to have a firearm in their glove compartment of their vehicle, provided certain criteria are met. crime seems to have gone down. the criminals know some of us are armed.

I guess these guys would get the worst of it. You can’t just buy a gun and stick it in your pants. In order to draw fast and hit the target under stress you need an extensive handgun training! My friends from US told me that most of the people attending CCW permit course do not even know the type of gun and caliber they’re using.
Guys, go to the range. Do 10-15 push ups (for stress effect), and then shoot the target at 10 feet or so. Also, practice fast draw from the same holster you’ll be carrying every day. And yes, buy a CCW fast draw holsters.

Absolutely! When I used to run matches, I would make people do jumping jacks, run in place, etc., just to simulate real life! And spend $100 on a good holster, your life is worth it!
I do NOT agree that you need “extensive” training- a good weekend will do- I have done this a LOT! BTW- Women are FAR better students than men. They listen, while the men “know gun handling, instinctivly”. RIIGHT.

Perhaps you have a point. I carry mine, behind the right hip, all the time. I practice drawing EVERY time I go to the bathroom. (lets see, 8x/day, x 365×18=LOTS!!), so I guess I forgot about all that “unofficial” practice! Plus, Grandaddy taught me to shoot a handgun when I was 8, so I have had a FEW years!

Dogman – in a CQB situation, say 3 feet or less, I agree with you, a knife is much better, I love my M16-14SF – but piano wire? you been watching too many Mafia movies – which mugger is going to let you get behind him so you can “garrot” him eh? ANy way that method stinks, literally, cause they lose control of the sphincter muscles and smell the place up terrible before they go bye-bye. Pray tell me how I can use a piano wire and a knife at the same time, maybe whip him while I gut him, no?.

It should be NO PROBLEM to carry open weapons!
Concealed is another story.
I could carry a rifle at 18 where I live.
Concealment isn’t bad, but can be sneaky in the wrong hands.

I live in Washington State. Last year the mayor of Seattle implemented an executive order in regards to concealed carry on city property; in effect making it illegal in Seattle. I never did hear if there was a legal challenge to it, but I did respond to the mayor’s office and tell them that I used to go to Seattle a lot, but in the future I would not go any more. A small way of boycotting an illegal system on my part. But Seattle is like any other city now, begging for more tourists to come to their city, but I refuse if they are going to turn it over to the criminals.
