Swat Team conducts food raid in rural Ohio

On Monday, December 1, a SWAT team with semi-automatic rifles entered the private home of the Stowers family in LaGrange, Ohio, herded the family onto the couches in the living room, and kept guns trained on parents, children, infants and toddlers, from approximately 11 AM to 8 PM. The team was aggressive and belligerent. The children were quite traumatized. At some point, the “bad cop” SWAT team was relieved by another team, a “good cop” team that tried to befriend the family. The Stowers family has run a very large, well-known food cooperative called Manna Storehouse on the western side of the greater Cleveland area for many years.
There were agents from the Department of Agriculture present, one of them identified as Bill Lesho. The search warrant is reportedly suspicious-looking. Agents began rifling through all of the family’s possessions, a task that lasted hours and resulted in a complete upheaval of every private area in the home. Many items were taken that were not listed on the search warrant. The family was not permitted a phone call, and they were not told what crime they were being charged with. They were not read their rights. Over ten thousand dollars worth of food was taken, including the family’s personal stock of food for the coming year. All of their computers, and all of their cell phones were taken, as well as phone and contact records. The food cooperative was virtually shut down. There was no rational explanation, nor justification, for this extreme violation of Constitutional rights.
Presumably Manna Storehouse might eventually be charged with running a retail establishment without a license. Why then the Gestapo-type interrogation for a 3rd degree misdemeanor charge? This incident has raised the ominous specter of a restrictive new era in State regulation and enforcement over the nation’s private food supply.
This same type of abusive search and seizure was reported by those innocents who fell victim to oppressive federal drug laws passed in the 1990s. The present circumstance raises the obvious question: is there some rabid new interpretation of an existing drug law that considers food a controlled substance worthy of a nasty SWAT operation? Or worse, is there a previously unrecognized provision(s) pertaining to food in the Homeland Security measures? Some have suggested that it was merely an out-of-control, hot-to-trot ODA agent, and, if so, this would be a best-case scenario. Anything else might spell the beginning of the end for the freedom to eat unregulated and unmonitored food.
One blogger familiar with the Ohio situation has reported that:
“Interestingly, I believe they [Manna Storehouse] said a month or so ago, an undercover ODA official came to their little store and claimed to have a sick father wanting to join the co-op. Both the owner and her daughter-in-law had a horrible feeling about the man, and decided not to allow him into the co-op and notified him by certified mail. He came back to the co-op demanding to be part of it. They refused and gave him names of other businesses and health food stores closer to his home. Not coincidentally, this man was there yesterday as part of the raid.”
The same blog also noted that the Ohio Department of Agriculture has been chastised by the courts in several previous instances for its aggression, including trying to entrap an Amish man in a raw milk “sale,” which backfired when it became known that the Amish believe in a literal interpretation of “give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away” (Matthew 5:42)
The issue appears to be the discovery of a bit of non-institutional beef in an Oberlin College food service freezer a year ago that was tracked down by a county sanitation official to Manna Storehouse. Oberlin College’s student food coop is widely known for its strident ideological stance about eating organic foods. It seems that the Oberlin student food cooperative had joined the Manna Storehouse food cooperative in order to buy organic foods in bulk from the national organic food distributor United, which services buying clubs across the nation. The sanitation official, James Boddy, evidently contacted the Ohio Department of Agriculture. After the first contact by state ODA officials, Manna Storehouse reportedly wrote them a letter requesting assistance and guidelines for complying with the law. This letter was never answered. Rather, the ODA agent tried several times to infiltrate the coop, as described above. When his attempts failed, the SWAT team showed up!
Food cooperatives and buying clubs have been an active part of the American landscape for over a generation. In the 1970s, with the rise of the organic food industry (a direct outgrowth of the hippie back-to-nature movement) food coops started up all over the country. These were groups of people who freely associated for the purpose of combining their buying power so that they could order organic food items in bulk and case lots. Anyone who was part of these coops in the early era will remember the messy breakdown of 35 pounds of peanut butter and 5 gallon drums of honey!
These buying clubs have persisted and flourished over the years due to their ability to purchase high quality organic foods at reduced prices in bulk quantities. Most cooperatives have participated greatly in the local agrarian economies, supporting neighborhood organic farmers with purchases of produce, eggs, chickens, etc. The groups also purchase food from a number of different local, regional and national distributors, many of them family-based businesses who truck the food themselves. Some of these food cooperatives have become large enough to set up mini-storefront operations where members can drop in and purchase items leftover from case lot sales. Manna Storehouse had established itself in such a manner, using a small enclosed breezeway attached to their home. It was a folksy place with old wooden floors where coop members stopped by to chat and snack on bags of organic corn chips.
The state of Ohio boasts the second largest Amish population in the country. Many of the Amish live on acreages where they raise their own food, not unlike Manna Storehouse, and sell off the extras to neighbors and church members. There is a sense of foreboding that this state crackdown on a longstanding, reputable food cooperative operation could adversely impact the peaceful agrarian way of life not only for the Amish, but homeschoolers and those families living off the land on rural acreages. It raises the disturbing possibility that it could become a crime to raise your own food, buy eggs from the farmer down the road, or butcher your own chickens for family and friends – bustling activities that routinely take place in backwater America.
The freedom to purchase food directly form the source is increasingly under attack. For those who have food allergies and chemical intolerances, or who are on special medical diets, this is becoming a serious health issue. Will Americans retain the right to purchase food that is uncontaminated by pesticides, herbicides, allergens, additives, dyes, preservatives, MSG, GMOs, radiation, etc.? The melamine scare from China underscores the increasingly inferior and suspect quality of modern processed institutional foods. One blog, commenting on the bizarre and troubling Manna Storehouse situation, observed that:
“No one is saying exactly why. At the same time the FDA says it is safe to eat the 40% of tainted beef found in Costco’s and Sam’s all over the nation. These farm raids are very common now. Every farmer needs to fully equipped [sic] for the possibility of it happening to them. The Farmer To Consumer Legal Defense Fund was created just for this purpose. The USDA just released their plans to put a law into action that will put all small farmers out of business. Animals for the sale of meat or milk will only be allowed in commercial farms, even the organic ones.” December 3, 2008 7:09 PM

Organized crime with the face of police and government. No more food stands on the sides of the road near the farms? That is not only facist, but sickening for its absurdity. In Russia, we have the local villages that are able to grow crops come to the city markets and sell their own fruits and vegetables. We have mass amounts of fresh potatoes from village gardens let alone the farms. I can imagine the whole population would revolt against such abuse here. Many people in USA are comfortable shopping their local grocery that is owned by big companies. So I guess they felt it would be easy to stop this, but it goes against the core of American values. I can see that from Russia. I see in history books about Victory gardens. It seems like they want to create the holodor which was forced collective farming which starved many regions through Russia Ukraine and other former Soviet Republics. I would be very alert if I was in America and during these times it isn’t okay to be doing your usual routine of work, go home and rest, and work around your house. You all are being abused and it has to be stopped.

to take away a mans right to grow his own food, is to take his basic nessecities for survival. In australia, you are taught in school how to grow and prepare your own food, so if worse comes to worse, you have the basic skills for survival. Local markets are open every weekend so farmers can sell, and people can buy fresh food. This story is extremely odd to me. Its seems as if the america government is trying to make sure all people continue to depend on the greedy middle man of capitalism to seperate product from consumer. facism is about to hit overdrive… silence and fear will allow it to take over.

Everything Humans achieve in life comes from following some kind of recipe (set of instructions and ingredients and tools). Follow the recipe closely, and the outcome is very predictable. All you should be caring about is which ‘cook book’ is currently being used by your masters. Non-americans have had the clearest understanding of US society since the ‘birth’ of this nation, and our view has left us feeling very uncomfortable indeed. But in our hearts, we knew that we were looking at the construction of a dim-witted global thug- a monster that merely awaited the arrival of a master smart enough to turn this monster to a single-minded planet destroying purpose.

#5 — I assume there will be a lawsuit over this action by the ODA. There are two main possibilities I see: this raid was a case of typically stupid bureaucratic overreach, and they’ll lose the case, or maybe they’ve already got a crooked judge lined up to help them get away with it.

This is a total outrage, and a good indication of what is coming for the future. We all need to
take lessons from the Amish people, they all work hard and are self reliant, and don’t depend
on anyone else for their well being. Most Amish stay to themselves and maintain their own
immediate communities, but all are interconnected by common values and you can bet they
can communicate to their entire world of Amish families. They are also well armed, please
don’t think they are defenseless.
It is obvious our nazi controlled government is going to do anything possible to destroy any
chance of people surviving. We cannot allow these jack booted thugs to keep getting away
with this kind of crime against humanity, just because they were ordered. These evil slugs
know they are wrong, but just want to screw over everyone to prove they are the boss.

me, The government is imperial of course. There are around 60% of Americans classified as obese. I would have to say this story shows one of the factors. Also if you see the weight loss industry makes multi billions a year, I think you can put a conspiracy together. Entertainment industry=Beauty is best, need to look like me! Food Industry=chemicals, fats, and other junk increases weight index of the people. Weight loss industry(with TV commercials)= LOSE WEIGHT NOW! Have Sexy Abs! It is all connected very closely. In Russia our loaf of bread is free of any chemicals. You leave it out of the refrigerator for one day it will be as hard as a rock. Grab a loaf of that Wonder bread and it will squish with fresh softness after a week. There are chemicals in everything, and I tasted American food. Just as your nose can get used to a smell and it disappears, same happens with taste. Move to Europe for 1 year and return and you’ll know what I am talking about. And as you see above, it is human engineering perfecting a money cycle. Other percentage I believe are obese due to the lifestyle of having a home with a garage attached to it. The amount of walking done is minimal. Drive to work, home, store. Sit…. Computer, TV, Video Games…. Just beware of your health… Don’t listen to crap about trying to match the looks of a model, as it is rediculous. (Secret for those who don’t know… Models “looks” are computer enhanced) Keep these people who just were raided in business and walk! It takes a while to lose the weight, but it does come off.

Best advice for future farmers is to NOT tell them anything. Do EVERYTHING under the radar. Don’t tell the farm census bureau anything. Far as they are concerned, we are RETIRED.
I hope these folks get a great lawyer and hit ‘em hard and heavy. Even the Amish are now having troubles with the system. Used to be they stayed out of politics and just lived their lives. Now they are forced to attend town hall meetings so that they don’t get “hit by a truck” that they didn’t see coming..

A. John Brown, (http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/aia/part4/4p1550.html), a white guy, risks his very life and livelihood in his (what must have seemed) lonely fight for abolition, which, being white, did not affect him in a practical sense. He could have said and done nothing and lived a very comfortable life.
B. Here in Saskatchewan it is illegal for a dairy farmer to sell you milk cream or any dairy products, privately.
Hutterites can no longer go into towns to sell their goods,you must drive to them.
And government employees are using scare tatics to convince people it isn’t safe to buy produce at local farmers markets.
A buddy has worked at the Sask wheat pool for 20+ years and he said when he started there was around 40 different types of wheat being grown.Now there is around 10.
They are slowly squeezing out everyone that produces good fresh foods in favor of gmo’s and produce grown with heavy use of pesticides/herbicides etc.
I feel lucky to live in a rural area where I can drive 10 minutes in any direction and can buy a cow,pig,buffalo,elk etc from people I know ,and how the livestock was raised. We also have big yards here and the ability to have big gardens.But I feel for the people living in huge cities that don’t have that opportunity.

Hey El Loco, you must also know about los santomos or whatever they are called infected crops with their GMO CRAP then going after the farmers to shut them down because they “stole” their patented GMO seed, basically they are using the cross pollination to infect crops or in some cases having operatives plant their crops in some area of their field, war on our food supply, mexico has 1700+ biodiversities of corn and north america only has 4. Yup Pissed. Monsanto.There have been cases against them, but they are a huge powerful company and don’t lose any legal battles.I have friends that work in conjuction with the government and the stories they are telling.
A good friend of mine works in a gov/business funded organization that puts on clinics to educate on preparing foods and they also help local producers sell their goods to local people, mostly elderly and low income.
She was at a seminar and the gov representative started saying how farmers have no regulations and could use sewer water to water their gardens.
She asked him if he knew of specific cases where this was found.
He replied no but it is always possible.Hogwash
She accused him of scare tactics to get people to quit buying local produce and trying to break the producers.
It is happening.Prepare for it!

So, I don’t eat dead animal fleah and don’t group with others into organizations to distribute big quantities of produce outside the fed’s scrutiny. And I didn’t have my “rights” trampled on …..ha, ha, what a surprise. And here I am believing that there is no such thing as a right when you’re dealing with people. You have the right to get death by pango-pango when it comes down to it with “The Government”. And animals are human beings also, by definition.

I just read about Monsanto and if they really patented a crops with the so called “terminator” and “traitor” genetic modifications, that is extremely outrageous. I am not one to start cursing because it doesn’t help convey messages from to an other, but this Monsanto and AstraZeneca takes the cake for trying to patent nature and control something that has belonged to nature, basically life, and sell it for a profit. I have to chuckle at pissed in canada’s “Frankenfood” comment, but it is true. It reminded me of the silly movie Frankenfish…. I assume most of the readers don’t know, but some who didn’t read about Monsanto before, they Genetically Modified crops that will be sterile and won’t reproduce. That is the “Terminator” genes they created. The “Traitor” one is their new cash crop which I am sure they are counting on. Just like you all pay for internet service by the month, The farmers will have to pay for a chemical to activate their crops genes every year. like a gene to actuall yield corn. Another thing that makes me laugh about their site, look at the people… I know race isn’t important in reality with our daily matters, but in reality they use it against people. Notice the farm photos are upper class citizens, well dress white farmers. Near the scholarship section they have a student from almost every race of the world to be politically correct. And finally, the commitment to youth, a young black male who is not going to be failed by this company… Oh no, they will make sure he is a well educated man. This type of political, “we wipe are rear ends with velvet”, correctness is just disgusting……. The big corporate farms are using immigrants at low wages so there are less and less white middle class people standing in those fields, that’s fact. Even if they are deverting some money to education funds and don’t leave poor Johnny behind, it is just public relations to keep people smiling while they’re being raped. I guess it is better though than showing a photo of a farm field with a lot Mexicans smiling at you. Or a cool photo of one of their executives in a Mercedes showing inner city school kids the middle finger as they pass by…. But if they did that, I might find them more believable…

How come there are no “Porta-poties anywhere to be seen. There is no place to them to wash their hands, while handling the food.
So where do these people go the bathroom. Number 1 and 2 in the fields, eewww.
Then how do they wipe themselves. I do not think they carry around a roll of toilet paper. So I guess they use their bare hand. Then without soap and hot water available to them. They must just go back to harvesting your food.

To the first guy that posted, if its a zionist conspiracy why did the govt shut down one of the biggest kosher slaughterhouses a month ago? Why didn’t they get a free pass since the owner is an Israeli citizen? Just curious what you think about that…

Deborah, here in Saskatchewan we don’t hire immigrants to plant our gardens.We are talking about average people that have a huge garden on their land or in their yard that produce more than they need and sell to the people they know in the areas they live in.Maybe where you come from they have a dump right where they work and pull weeds, but here we don’t.Unless you personally know of farmers that do that.Or you are city born and raised and simply don’t know any better.

In my own opinion, I believe their goal is to controll ALL food. I also believe these same companies are behind the spraying of the chemtrails.
It seems to me that the wasting disease by wildlife and the madcow by cattle could be one and the same ailment and can all be linked to the plants they are eating..coated with heavy metals and who knows what else from the chem trails.
The symptoms of each seem to be alike and very simular to what happens with lead poisoning.
Whatever they are spraying is also getting into the water, which is also heavily drugged with chemicals.
When you couple all of that with the chemicals feed to animals to gain weight, it is easy to see where the obesity problems in the world come from..We ARE what we eat..and if you are eating growth hormones..of course you will put on excess fat.
Flouride is being put into your water to keep you docile..it was used by the Nazis to keep the people in the death camps from rioting. It is also a known agent that causes obesity. It is the ONLY ingredient in over the counter rat poisons as well. Do some homework on this.
I want to know who gave these companies “permission” to mess with the world food supplies. What right do they have to fuck with our food and the whole planetary eco system?
These chemical and gene alterations can also be the cause for the bees and the birds dying off. They are killing us. We are under attack.

The only option left to freedom loving Americans in response to this misconduct by so-called “law enforcement” is a revival of a time-honored tradition – the local Militia. I was once told by a US Senator at a town meeting that government won’t change anything (read: genuine reform) unless they “feel the heat”. I for one happen to be a pretty healthy 42 year old man that can go for over 30 days without eating anything,as long as I have a source of water or other liquids.I don’t sit and consume as you suggest,and I know several other people that get by with purchasing the minimal of items from any corporate store.I’m not fat,Quite the contrary,I only weigh in the range of 145-165 lbs.,I can outlast most people when it comes to survival,I lived in the Rocky Mountains for 14 years and spent many hours training for just such the scenario that we face here and elsewhere.You’re right though,most Americans have become lackluster slobs that are ignorant to truth and they will probably be really easy targets when the NWO brigade begins knocking down doors,or knock nicely,because most Americans will gladly open the door,let them in,give them their stuff and offer them coffee while they are being pillaged.The majority of us have lost any and all gainful employment in this country to outsources,so a larger number are increasingly going to the government for more social services,(Obama’s specialty),My family on the other hand happens to be fit and trained to survive,wilderness,urban,where ever,We are expert marksmen,have skills in bow hunting and using snares for small game,,net rivers and streams will produce plenty of fish every day,.One problem in high altitude is short growing season above 5000 ft.The biggest problem that we are facing though,is the sheer fact that none of these goons realize that they are violating the very document they swore to uphold,

I also believe that the elites are poisoning us with chemtrails. I have been sick for 2 years from the spraying. Also, many of my plants have died since the spraying began in my area. These are plants and shrubs that have been around for at least 20 years. Ever since late 2005 when the spraying began heavy, all of these problems started.

#42. Why did they shut down the kosher slaughterhouse? Well actually they didn’t. This slaughterhouse was found not only to have over a 100 illegal aliens, they also found the company purposefully forged their paperwork. Not only that, they were caught using the slaughterhouse as a crystal meth manufacturing plant. And what happened to the rabbis? THey got bail. Anyone else would have the key thrown away.

YUP, i got something to add about mad cow, when the US went after afghanistan, canada’s stance was no involvment, shortly after that we had the mad cow thing happen and the US stopped importing canadian beef. One interesting thing is that the farmer who had the mad cow, had only started farming 6 months prior to that, he was an american born citizen who had also recently moved to canada. This never came out but i can guarantee he was a CIA operative who conducted a terrorist attack on our beef industry, there is too much there that is fishy, after the US boycoted our beef, we entered the war withing 2 weeks. All too much of a coincidence if you ask me.

I think that is how gang stalkers pull out “non-member stores” from the neighborhood. Since I became the victim of gang stalking, I have seen store clerks were working on harassment anywhere around the world. In Silicon Valley, I saw store clerks in Fry’s Electronics, Walmart, Border’s Bookstore, Safeway were working on the surveillance. In public libraries, the stalking members were able to check the clients’ records. Because the clerks work on reporting to the government, there is no meaning to protest against sharing which books the library users read to the government like happened in Santa Cruz library.
The stores might work for irradiation of the foods to the gang stalking victims to cause high cancer rate.

I read Prison Planet daily. I agree with almost everything I read on it. I live in Elyria Oh. It is 5 minutes from Lagrange. This did not happen!!! I have researched it fo the last week and contacted the lady from the phone number on her website. She seemed crazy on the phone. I forwarded this article to many people at work and than watched it blow up in my face when we found it to be almost completely false. Please Alex, research before you post if its not something you know as FACT. I am sorry to complain because I truely enjoy your site.
