A 33-year-old man from Texas has become the fifth person to die in the US after contracting the swine flu virus.
The man from Corpus Christi, who has not been named by the authorities, died earlier this month, health officials in Texas said.
Dr William Burgin Jr, of the Corpus Christi-Nueces county health district, said that the man died on May 5 or May 6 after becoming ill a few days earlier.

He said that the man had pre-existing medical conditions, including heart problems, that made it more difficult for him to survive any viral illness.
Dr Burgin did not identify the man but said he was a single parent with three children. One of the children had also contracted swine flu but was treated successfully and is making a recovery.
