In a note entitled No more space for Gold Bars, Swiss news website 20 Minuten Online reports that Swiss banks are running out of secure storage space for gold bullion held by investors and institutions. Fears of hyperinflation, the economic downturn and the success of gold index funds (ETFs), which are supported by physical gold, has led to a run on precious metals investment – and in gold in particular, and in the necessary secure storage space in which to hold it..
One Swiss bank, earlier this year, reported that it was having to relocate some of its stored silver bullion to another site to make room for gold. The Zurich Kantonal bank put this down to the success of its gold ETF.
The website reports another Swiss investment banker despairing “We have the need to store more gold for our clients but are finding it difficult to find secure storage facilities”. Gold storage makes high demands on security which is what is making the gold holding task more difficult. Few banks will divulge exactly where their gold is stored for security reasons.
(ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW)
Another banker reported that his bank still had space but that it is beginning to run out.
Some of the problems are being handled by improving the storage systems in existing space. As one banker commented “A 12.5 kilo gold bar only occupies about the same amount of space as a tetrapak of milk”.

I have been waiting over 3 months for an IRA order to fill. I question if they can get it. If the price is where it should be there would be no shortage.

we as proud Americans feel that for the sake of all the dead americans of 9/11 and the terrorist threat of the Swiss having the n-bomb that we should make a PRE-emptive strike of Switzerland and secure the said asset so that the Muslim terrorist do not get their hands on it and buy more AID’s to blow up the pentagon again.

Can you explain why slips of paper marked by government ink and incantations are so valuable?
“If they can get you asking the wrong questions, they don’t have to worry about the answers.” – “Gravity’s Rainbow,” Thomas Pynchon
The question that needs to be asked is NOT what is/should be valuable (paper/gold), but instead, why is ‘money’ valuable/important to society?
Money facilitates ‘trade’, which is a vital part of a peaceful and prosperous people. Trade allows individuals to specialize in areas of interest/aptitude and allows for free time. Otherwise, the individual would need to hunt for grub, build shelter, etc. Trade has always been a function of multiple communities and thereby the vehicle of trade, the money, needed to be widely accepted and trusted measurement of value across numerous/various cultures. Many items have been tried, but gold and silver have outlasted them all. They have inherent value as commodities used for jewelry, these metals don’t rust or otherwise wear easily.

I just found out from GoldStar that HSBC will no longer hold IRA metals at their facility in NYC. It’s all being moved to Delaware. They say they are running out of space but one wonders if they need the space to stash their own. I’m kind of glad it’s leaving NYC myself.

There is no gold at Ft. Knox.
It is going to be fun (assuming I survive) to see the food riots here and abroad lead to people raiding the Vatican, Ft. Knox, etc. I can’t wait to see the YouTube clips showing Ft. Knox empty and the Vatican full of ancient knowledge. Meanwhile, the MSM will continue with the fluff.
It’s going to be an entertaining winter!

That’s important news. If most people knew banks were starting to save their holdings so far as to stuff Swiss vaults up to the ceiling, there would be a huge panic, and this time, removing money from the banks would do anything at all, since we’re talking about hyperinflation and the Dollar downing.
Perhaps the Sterling as well, since the UK has finally been forced into the EU, and a strong Sterling is the last wall against Euro supremacy and the resistance of the Britons.
The question would be what are people with small saving to do? What we have today in Sterling could be worth a hundredth of that around September.

Thats what I’m thinking. If the economy truly collapses like every here on Prisonplanet seems to think it will what good is gold going to do you? You gonna try to trade that shit for something. Sorry I have real assets like food and water stored up in case of a real emergency. Because in reality if the shtf gold isn’t gonna get you anything for trade. I mean if shit got real bad I wouldn’t trade a single pound of my food for any amount of gold.
David S Reply:

There is a lot to be said for that. To a starving man a can of beans is more valuable than a pound of gold.

Well, obviously the assumption is that you store up any wealth you have AFTER taking care of all your basic survival prep. Then your gold protects your future. And you keep silver for basic trading in the interim.

NO ITS BULL!!!
More than 193,000 metric tons (425 million pounds). If you stuck it all together, it would make a cube-shaped, seven-story structure that might resemble one of Donald Trump’s buildings. First you’d have to find all those rings that have gone down the drain.
BIT BIGGER THAN A SWIMMING POOL

Planned bank holidays for the first week in September, that’s the word for Sept.
Gold is being horded for a reason. If they are running out of space to store the stuff, geeze it must be real bad, whatever is coming. I believe the dollar is going to be replaced and all you have saved up will be close to worthless. That makes having gold a logical move. Again growing your own food will be priceless if TSHTF.
July 17th, 2009 at 5:36 pm
You’re all exactly right !!!! Glad to know I’m not the only one that thinks clean water, food & ammo will be the most valuable commodities. You sure can’t eat gold. Old story I heard long ago abt. a rich man & his hired man. The slave went to work somewhere else or something. Rich man needed to heat his house. Anyway, the punchline was ” money I have, it’s firewood I need”.

Sounds to me it would be a good idea to have both food and gold (and some cash, some guns, some ammo and some silver). I mean you aren’t restricted to having just one.
There are lots of scenarios possible, even everything turns out OK. Eat the food and pass the gold down to your kids.
July 17th, 2009 at 7:08 pm
There are just 160 000 tons of gold in circulation around the world, that put all together can fill a cube of 20 meters by side: so how much space do they have and how much of the 160 000 tons they possess?
July 18th, 2009 at 1:18 am
Gold is great… Silver is waaaaay better.
Ok, ok… Food is great too. When its gone whatcha gonna buy more with?
Don’t forget ammo… Important too.
Food to survive
Silver to barter
Guns to protect both

http://911essentials.com says Switzerland is surrounded by mountains and all the tunnels going into the country are mined and can be closed down within minutes, sealing off the country.
I can’t imagine that they are running out of space … but there might be more gold than we think.
Let’s do an audit of Fort Knox too and see where all this gold really is ….

The play is like this: bank holiday in September (that’s why things are getting quiet quick right now and people are doing staycations). Then in October, hyperinflation starts (the wealthy are already being warned about this). You only have a month and bit to get it together.
July 18th, 2009 at 6:26 am

I’ll hold some of the gold for them. Can’t say they’ll get it back though!
July 18th, 2009 at 5:10 pm
From what I understand the US leased its gold to the IMF. The IMF took physical possesion and pays the lease then congress gives them permission to sell the gold as they continue to pay the lease. That has really got to help the dollar since at the same time there has been a mass printing of paper money. You will notice if you go to get a loan there is not much money available to borrow yet they gave all of these banks money?? The one thing that makes it just a little suspicious is the fact that oversight and accountability is not permissable for this transaction.
Once the crooks achieve the delfation via forced liquidations depression etc the will crooks have the not yet worthless paper money to buy up the country for nothing. Once bought look for the dollar to crash then they will have the gold too. Hey, I am just a garbage man I aint one of dem smart fellers from Wall st. or a plumber or nuttin like that.
