Taiwan says China starts building first aircraft carrier

Taiwan said Wednesday that its giant neighbour China has started building its first aircraft carrier, a move analysts have said could raise military tensions in the region.
The head of Taiwan’s National Security Bureau told parliament construction of the carrier had begun, Lin Yu-fang, a legislator of the ruling Kuomintang party, told AFP.
However, the security chief, Tsai Teh-sheng said the carrier’s construction “has not been smooth” and that the Chinese navy may struggle to put it into service by 2012 unless it makes a manufacturing breakthrough soon.
“This is the result of an evaluation not only from (Taiwan’s) National Security Bureau…but also from the Chinese communists,” Tsai said, according to Lin.

No those Chinks will build junk for us. When you see made in China don’t buy it. But when they build their war machines they’ll be top quality. A country like China can build stuff so cheap, because of billions of free laborers. Aircraft carriers are the only way a country can be a viable force in the world. I mean we’ve got ten aircraft carriers. We can go to China and kick their ass, but they wouldn’t have a prayer to come here. They might have subs, but they need to transport those planes.

my 2 cents and if you think about it….from a naval military strategic point of view, the US navy dominants the Pacific. But China really doesn’t have a military naval dominance in the Pacific. Sure, they’ve got subs, but it ain’t enough. So China really hasn’t needed to build up their Navy, more specifically Aircraft Carriers, or they just didn’t have the technology in the past. I mean, where would they park those aircraft carriers, without a strategic island? Such as the US, who has Hawaii, or Japan (if needed), to launched their carriers in a timely fashion….So this is where Taiwan comes in…Taiwan will in no doubt, be the perfect island for China, to match the US’s Pacific Naval power. Of course, along with other political reasons, the USA ain’t gonna like this…But at the end of the day…and sad to say (for those who stand for Taiwan’s Independence)..China just ain’t gonna let that happen… China doesn’t need to build a huge Naval fleet…just enough..since it’ll be difficult for the US to manage 2 or 3 international crisis at one time…… PEACE
