    Friday, December 12, 2008

Police in Australia have shot dead a 15-year-old boy in a skate park, claiming he had threatened them with knives.

The officers in the southern city of Melbourne said the youth had continued to approach them with the weapons even though they had fired warning shots.

The boy, named as Tyler Cassidy, was also hit twice with pepper spray.

The boy died at the scene after being fired on by several times by officers.

His family condemned the shooting, saying: “The entire family and friends of Tyler Cassidy are appalled at the actions by Victoria Police last night.”

Speaking after the event, Victoria state police assistant commissioner Tim Cartwright said police were called to the park after several people reported seeing a young man behaving erratically.

The boy had stolen knives from a nearby department store earlier in the day, Mr Cartwright said.

“He was irrational. He was yelling and screaming and, as far as we can tell, armed with two knives at that stage,” he said, adding that the situation was a tragedy but that officers had acted appropriately. The shooting is now under investigation

    1. WakeUp Says:

We need to stop giving these punk cops an excuse to shoot. Where was the Taser on this one? The one place where it sounds like it might b appropriate, they reach for their service weapon instead. There’s nothing more dangerous than a coward in uniform with a chip on his shoulder.

      birgit Reply:

      100000 % correct!

    2. SlyCanuck Says:

It makes you wonder if they’re “testing” the effect of shooting kids in different countries to gauge the reactions of people.

    3. Gary Says:

I guess it’s tazed when you’re innocent and getting shot if you’re not. This is a case where you taze someone. But no, the cops choose diabetic comas and the fathers of drowning sons. Morons.

    4. Years of Thought Says:

#2 , I agree, this was only a test of the New World System. #1 and #3 are also dead on…THIS IS WHAT A TAZER IS FOR. They will rot, those murdering thugs. We must see to it.

    5. Frogz Says:

What is it about cops being fucking idiots? Got guns? Don’t want to kill him? WELL SHOOT HIS FUCKING LEGS THEN!
      idiots.

    6. Toma Says:

I feel confident that I could restrain a kid with knives with my bare hands. Even if I got stabbed it would be preferable to killing a child. Two trained cops could easily take him down without using firearms, especially with other restraining devices at their disposal. Those cops should be tried for murdering children and put away for life. Case Closed

    7. TRYING2AWAKEN Says:

#2 i never thought of it that way but it makes perfect sense. and yes this was MAYBE one case where they actually could have used a tasers and be justified. you know what i say all humans on earth stop breaking all laws world wide for a year str8 and then get rid of all policing force that we have.it would a) prove we dont need them and b) prove that yes we can all get along.think about it. if every citizen would take it upon themselves to stop any destructive damage or action they may run into at any time (everyone looking out for everyone) , people would just learn to stop being little kids. we could live in a paradise. now the problem is ……… getting thousands of humans willing to sacrifice what ever it takes to not break any of the laws we have now even if they are not fair.

    8. dRapNOid Says:

…”as far as we can tell, armed with two knives”……”the situation was a tragedy but that [the] officers had acted appropriately.”

As far as I can tell, you need more fucking eveidence than that to determine that the officers acted appropriately. What a thickheaded stupid fucking statement.

    9. Broma Says:

This is another case of problem-reaction-solution. The Victorian Police Force do not currently carry tasers (that’s why it wasn’t deployed in this case #1, #3, #4, #7). This is the incident to turn public opinion so that all Victorian police will be issued with “non-lethal” taser stun guns, then Australians can look forward to being tortured whilst in diabetic shock or watching a loved one drown or when trying to leave a university library without producing ID, etc – just like our American allies! I really don’t think this was a case where you taze someone – this was a case designed to make the public think tasers save lives.

    10. Starcraft Says:

i agree with Toma. Most deffinatly.

    11. Broma Says:

Also, he was sprayed with capsicum spray and still managed to have the cops fearing for their lives? He must have had an incredibly high pain threshold…..can you say Manchurian Candidate?

    12. Freedom Lost Says:

Chuck Norris could have stopped him with one arm tied behind his back, lol, Chuck FTW.

    13. WakeUp Says:

Good post, Broma. What non-lethal weapons do you have down there? Do your cops have 12-gauge beanbags or rubber bullets? Heck, if all they have is a baton, then call out the fire department and hit the kid with a hard stream from a firehose. Point being, there MUST be some other escalation of force rather than going from pepper spray to the firearm. This kid didn’t need to die for his stupidity – and I know you know that. Keep up the good fight.

    14. rats Says:

Having a knife is not equal to being proficient with a knife. If the kid was delusional and yelling a lot (probably from pepper spray) then the police could just hold him at bay and keep others from getting hurt (if he was truly dangerous) until he cooled down.

    15. Minnetonka_Mark Says:

Please recall the recent situation in Akihabara, Japan. A crazed man armed with a hunting knife stabbed and killed half a dozen people. Covered in his victim’s blood the killer was disarmed and beaten down by a Japanese policemen. The J-cop simply deployed his collapsable baton and gave the killer a good whacking. I’d imagine the fear and stress level on the cop was fairly high, but he used his kendo skills, not his firearm. IMHO no Japanese cop would shoot a person armed with a knife. He’d be considered to be an incompetent lawman.

    16. Ali Says:

The latest news is that the kid at 15 was anti-immigrant. Couldn’t stand hearing other languages when walking in the streets. A future white supremacy! Like Australia to remain white – of course completely forgetting the genocide on the Aborigines – and who Australia belongs to. Wonder who brought him up with such mentality!

    17. George B Says:

There are huge riots in Greece because police shot a teenage boy. In Australia it’s OK to shoot a kid – nothing hapens! Teenagers do have crazy ideas ( I’ve been teenager too) or do you think they suppose to behave like zombies? Don’t step out of the line or you get shot?
As #13 mentioned, don’t they have rubber bullets?
I guess they use them only for demonstrations, one lonely teenager, lets shoot him with the real one!!!

    18. Uncle_Meat Says:

This is a common occurrance in Los Angeles where the cops here have shot and killed a homeless 80yr. old woman that threatened them with a screwdriver. They are trained in hand to hand combat but why bother when the 9mm on their belt is so convenient and such a joy to use. Why get any scratches at all and what a better time to get some target practice in. They are all such brave individuals. It’s a shame because there are some valiant heroic acts that have taken place but it appears to be in the minority. They are mostly cowards and accountable to no one.

    19. VoiceOfCommonSense Says:

I live in Australia and have read all of the reports, if you want to find out more you are best to check out local sources. The issue and a great deal of the talk here is that the three officers all opened fire and blew the troubled teen away. Most are sure that he could have been taken down by tother means without the fatality and this amount of agression was not neccasary…

    20. Nihilism Says:

Havent posted here. Ever. Why? Because they have all of our IP addresses. All of them. That isn’t my point right now, though, and I apologize for the digression.

What’s going on here is more than just reactionism, more than just getting those Tasers approved, hell, it’s more than thick-skulled “peace officers” who are trained to shoot first and ask questions never. What this is about, really, is a simple test of limitations. The first step: Can we shoot a dangerous man without backlash? Answer: Resounding yes, proved hundreds of years ago. Second step: Can we shoot a man we think might be dangerous without backlash? Answer: Yes, probably, though circumstances must be perfect. Third Step: Can we shoot a dangerous kid without backlash? Answer: Apparently yes.

We’re just a few steps from “Can we shoot a man for dissent, claiming terrorism?” The answer to that one is, of course, going to be “Yes”. And when that happens, freedom has lost.

Spread the Word. We’re going South way too fast.

    21. BlueBaron Says:

I agree with Nihilism of post 20.
Your right, maybe there could just even shoot anyone and don’t give a reason. I think people are that dumbed down it could happen.

    22. WhiteRabbit Says:

i go with the shooting of teenagers being a test to check our reaction. also, it is obvious that they could ahve subdued him without harming him. at least the greeks have the balls to riot. we in the us need to stand up for oursleves. they do it cuz they can. plain and simple. they will continue to do it until a few of them get shot and show that peeps wont stand for this shit. your son or daughter could be next people. think about that.

    23. WhiteRabbit Says:

oh, and i dont give a rats ass if they have my isp. they can kiss my isp.

    24. theopenedmind Says:

The same thing happened in Greece and the whole country burst out in riots demanding justice.
      What do we Australians do?
      Turn the newspaper page.
Oh, Wheel of Fortune is on.

    25. suck_my_IP_pigs Says:

      I live in Melbourne.
I used to shop at Northcote Plaza where they killed him.

Classic PROBLEM – REACTION – SOLUTION

Now the Victoria Police will get TASERS to torture us here too…why? Because all the sheeple will DEMAND it! Fucking morons bring it upon themselves via Media Manipulation and their own ignorance.

At least the Greeks have the balls to stand up.
Melbourne has more Greeks than any other city in the world except Athens!! But it shows we are weak as piss in Australia…
The news here hardly covers the riots…i wonder why

Big hello to the snoops recording us all :)

    26. Blake Says:

Yeah i’m an Australian and I think i know a little more about it:

In the past couple of months all police officers in NSW and QLD have been issued with high powered tasers for the first time in Australian history. Atleast 2 people have been killed by them so far and awareness had started to spread.
      Then this story came in.
When the 3 police officers were asked about the 15 year old boy, they said something along the lines of “well, if Victorian police officers had tasers, this would’ve never happened”…
And there you have it. Victorian police officers will get their tasers, and if anyone says anything about it, this story of the 15 year old boy will be brought up again.
      And the system lives on.

    27. TinyTot Says:

      Another Aussie here…

Yup, they’ve been dumbing us down with Chemtrails before hand too. We were wondering why we were heavily bombed the last couple of weeks.

The Parliament on holidays, the Navy on leave for 2months, fluoridating water in weather bombed Brisbane, Rudd looking for a position on the UN security council, yup, dumb us down, dumb dumb… and then save us Mr Government… from our own stupidity!

*go to sleep… go to sleep… close your big blood shot eyes…*

This is not the beginning. It is not the end either. God help us!

    28. dnunda Says:

Now you know why the Australian government doesn’t want Aussies to have guns. They don’t like people being able to shoot back. Once you take a “citizens” right to bear arms and defend himself, he is no longer a citizen, but rather nothing but a “subject”. And that’s exactly what England calls it’s population, SUBJECTS. That’s where the whole rotten idea comes from. The rules England invented to suppress it’s population are the same ones brought over by them and forced on the Australian population, and on the US as well for that matter. It’s hard to believe that a little island called England could inflict so much misery worldwide. Biggest mistake the Romans ever made was not putting all those pasty-faced Limeys to the sword when they had the chance. Would have saved this planed from a lot of grief.

    29. dnunda Says:

I agree with “Chopper Reed’s” view of the way things are in Australia. He’s from Melbourne if I’m not mistaken. Australia needs to “harden the fuck up!” Start shooting back!

    30. Miles Says:

Im sure there is always more to the story, ……….but gee whiz…..Can a guy get a leg wound or what?

    31. Kenn Says:

You let them take your guns

You let them take your knives

Now your letting them take your souls

What we’ll give up for ’security’

    32. bob Says:

Yes here in australia our cops ae now trained by the american fbi , that is to shoot first ask questions later , our cops are tigger happy , 20 yrs ago police in aussie could not shoot unless the offender had a gun but here in australia we cannot own guns that is the ppl.

    33. Annie Says:

Tyler lost his Dad to cancer a couple of years ago.
Now his mother and big brother have 2 devastating anniversaries very close together.
I’m from Melbourne,Australia and the call for tasers was discussed as an adjunct to “the story”.
3 cops fired simultaneously, blowing the LITTLE guy away.
Instead of buying tasers why don’t the Victoria Police spend the money training the cops to shoot at LEGS?????????(I believe they could have disarmed him from the kitchen knifes WITHOUT shooting).
perhaps I’m not thinking too clearly after the heavy chem-spraying over Melbourne these past weeks.

    34. Carly Says:

Its really become quite sad in Australia. Coming from Queensland, then moving to California and having lived in the states for the past 5 years I only really hear these horror stories. Also thank goodness my mother helped me out with this: it is MANDATORY to vote in Australia. If you do not vote you face heavy fines and possibly some jail time. Meanwhile I havent even resided in Australia for 5 years, and my mum had many nasty letters from the city council that thankfully she fixed up for me.
Also for those in the US that are unaware, Australia does not have a bill of rights. We have “assumed” rights. However really that means we have none whatsoever. So laws can be passed for just about anything because it will not be violating any rights put forth in the constitution.

    35. nofen@ssclown Says:

As always…the Victorian Police shoot and kill as always…te cops here are starting to get a little annoying, now…I was in a service station carpark with some other motorcyclist, and was told to move or be fined for loitering…When I asked what was the time on loitering she mentioned..how about I start defecting your bikes…all this whilst her hand was on the holster of her gun….

Damn lucky bitch, I don’t have a GLOCK

    36. Josh Jackson Says:

I have no evidence but I think Tazar are behind this. They have had are hard time trying to convince the Ausies to give all the cops Tazars, “This kid was to far away for pepper spray to be effective” or something like that was what the cops said.

Ok so if the kid has a knife and is to far away for pepper spray then how can he be any threat? How come he needed 3 cops to go for Kill shots?

      This is really suspect.
and Now wait for tazar to say see! you need us! you need to buy every cop a tazar!

    37. Jon Says:

Sorry guys, but this has absolutely nothing to do with NWO/police state, so you can get off your paranoia horses right now. This is a sad case of poor police procedure and a troubled teenage boy with a record of violence.

No, ‘Tazars’ are not ‘behind’ this, Josh. It was an unfortunate incident that has left both citizens and police shocked. As for the talk of weapon upgrades for police, this has been an on-and-off subject in the media for many years now. Some politicians and police are really pushing for Tazers but former Commissioner Nixon never approved them.

Sorry, no conspiracy here. The teenage imbecile had himself called the police and made threats to kill. I’m sure a lot of the dillusional attitudes here would differ had he wounded or murdered some unfortunate individual who’d been walking nearby at the time.

Jon. (avid AJ listener from Australia)
