Communities of homeless people living in tents are cropping up across the US as the effects of rising unemployment, repossessions and the credit crunch bite.
From Seattle to Athens, Georgia, homeless advocacy groups and city agencies are reporting the most visible rise in homeless encampments in a generation.
Nearly 61% of state-run organisations in the sector have seen a rise in homelessness since the economic downturn first started in 2007, a report says.
The study, by the National Coalition for the Homeless (NCH), says the problem has worsened since the report’s release in April, with repossessions mounting, fuel and food prices rising and the job market tightening.
(ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW)
One of the so-called “tent cities” is based by the side of the railway tracks in the city of Reno, populated by people who lost their jobs to the ailing US economy, or newcomers who had moved there for work and discovered no-one was hiring.
Out of a dozen people interviewed in the tent city, six had come to Reno from California or elsewhere over the last year, hoping for casino jobs.
“I figured this would be a great place for a job,” said Max Perez, a 19-year-old from Iowa.
He could not find one and ended up taking showers at the men’s shelter and sleeping in a tent barely big enough to cover his body.
The relatively posh California city of Santa Barbara has given over a car park to people who sleep in cars and vans.
The city of Fresno, California, is trying to manage several growing tent cities, including an encampment where people have made shelters out of scrap wood.
In Portland, Oregon, and Seattle, homeless groups have paired with non-profit or faith-based groups to manage tent cities as outdoor shelters.

“This decision reflects the values we have in Saint Paul to protect and promote our First Amendment rights to freedom of the press,” Mayor Coleman said. “A journalist plays a special role in our democracy and that role is just too important to ignore. At the scene, the police did their duty in protecting public safety. In this decision, we are serving the public’s interest to maintain the integrity of our democracy, system of justice and freedom of the press.”
As was stated before even though Alex ignored this completely for some reason. There will be zero charged for this thuggary…

I drove by a Bank of America (near my aparment) the other night, the parking lot looked like a shanty town. There were a couple dozen homeless people camped out. There has always been a lot of homeless people where I live, but I’ve never seen it this bad.

I have a good job and tens of thousands of dollars sitting in my bank account right now, but I can’t find a place to live because no one will rent to me. Why? I defaulted on a debt to the Visa Coroporation 6 years ago. This is ridiculous. If it can happen to me, what do people with no job, no money, a criminal record or an eviction in their past do? People who lose their mortgages can’t even rent now, presumably. WTF?

I’ve read about this before, but didn’t realize it was becoming so widespread.

When enough angry people get thrown out onto the streets, there is going to be chaos. Those FEMA detention camps will start filling up soon. For Pamela above, if nobody will rent to you, you might consider buying a good used RV. There’s lots of them for sale cheap now.

I applaud the rare ray of truth coming through the vast entablature of ominously dark storm clouds, lies and propaganda.
I would wish otherwise, but it may be a strategic truth-telling with ulterior motives.
Readers, regardless of your native country, whether you are American or Russian, or from England, France, Spain, New Zealand or stateless, or another nation, it’s very important to realize:
1. the harassment is global, and is an economic and aviation-based technocratic tyranny (as I heard someone else describe it), and if they haven’t come for you yet, they will sooner than later, and they won’t stop until you stop them;
2. The real reason for the “big Barnum buildup” to a World War III scenerio, is that the billionaires who plundered and looted both America and Russia (and then fled) need a smokescreen to cover their crimes–in other words, this is a war to distract us away from performing necessary forensic audits to recover the people’s money–it’s not even about that oil pipeline, that itself is also a pretext, albeit a secondary pretext.
I do not begrudge the smaller, hard-working millionaires their honest money, and many rich people deserve to be rich, because they work hard and are well educated and ambitious, but I am not referring to them here, I am referring to the elite deviants, to those who have used pure financial trickery as a totally abhorrent form of economic terrorism, so that they could loot and subvert the superpowers, and then flee abroad with our money.
Trying to herd us up to World War III is a misdirect to prevent the American and Russian people from getting together, and getting their looted national funds back.
Besides, I don’t really see any point to being an American anymore. Being an American seems to mean that you get to have everything stolen from you, and that you can’t go to college if you belong at college, and that you have to run the gauntlet of men in black who work for 20 different agencies who are constantly trying to put everyone in prison.
Under globalist hegemons, the concept of nationality has lost its meaning, as protective mechanisms of each nation have been systematically diluted and subverted to the point that the only trademark feature left is creeping fear, and men dressed in black with submachine guns barking orders as they attempt to get us to go along with their unlawful self-immunizations under criminal law codes.
And the whole concept doesn’t work–it’s a scam, it’s a fraud, it’s international, and we’re going to stop this. Mental illness is a very sad situation and it couldn’t be more obvious that the individuals perpetuating that, from multigenerational power families that control money, are moving armies around, and churning out propaganda, and frightening people at airports, and trying to dominate us, and this whole thing is going to backfire like a jalopy with a rust-ridden exhaust system because human nature isn’t designed to be enslaved. And if there’s a group of people who are going to present as a strategic threat to the global order, then we have to deal with that.
And no, we don’t need the same people who created the problem (problem-action-solution) to come in like white knights and save the day, for even more money. We need to get our looted money back, and to put those people in prison.
If you work in the banking industry or you are forensic accountant, please quietly look into where our money went and make a record of it. We need to get that money back before it’s used to buy more steroids for the global police state. These elite deviants are making life intolerable–and they’re cowards, too, because they always send somebody else out to do the killing, while they hide like giant, hideous orange and black tarantulas in the earth, shaking with fear at the demons in their own minds.
Don’t be fooled again.

I live in Reno NV. and have seen these tent cities, it’s a sad thing to see.
But this story is misleading in that there are tons of jobs out here, with new ones sprouting up every day so to say that there is no work in Reno is insane. The peppermill casino is hiring like crazy, and the Spanish spring area is building new buisness every month.
So I’m just gonna come out and say it “These people are fuckin lazy and need to get up off their asses and stop mooching Fuck” there I said it.

it sux that it took this kinda crisis for america to open its eyes, and be hit with this mess all at once. but the majority of our people don’t want the responsibilty of runnin’ a country, so they entrust the biggest smooth talkin’ crooks in the world but they are gettin’ tongue-tied and bein’ exposed as the true criminals. our numbers are a burden on them, thats why they wanna controll the population, so we don’t out number them. THEIR DAYS OF DOMINATION ARE SURELY COMIN’ TO AN END. LETS SEE THAT THEY LEAVE DISHONORABLY WITH THEIR HEADS DOWN AND THEIR POCKETS TURNED OUT AND WE’LL SPARE THEM THE RAPE AND TORTURE THEY IMPOSE ON US AND OTHERS,

True story….
I had a dream that I was living in a huge tent city somewhere in the American wilderness.
One day,
on a walk,
I smelled smoke coming from over a large hill.
I walked up to investigate.
The “white” smoke was coming from huge chimneys.
To my horror, I realized it was the smell of burning human flesh.
I had stumbled upon a hidden, government concentration camp, and they were incinerating all the homeless people….
alive.

If you have ever been homeless you would know that you have no address and no one will hire you so wake up to the truth people and see the light no home no job

Mr Fegel,
I barely bought my first home in ‘98 just before the big boom in housing prices. Had I waited any longer I would still be a renter. Now I’m sure I can easily buy a house for well under $100,000 in a semi demilitarized zone, where I’m the only one who can read, write and speak English fluently. But I remember the story of an average white guy in Tustin, CA., who had a tiny house, and this poor guy was robbed close to a dozen times. He finally put a sign out front stating, “All gone, nothing left to steal.” I’ll never forget that. That was 10-11 years ago. I don’t want to live like that poor fellow, nor expose my family to such conditions, so I’m forced to go into debt for $300 to $400k just for a safe neighborhood. How I can I do this with the present state of the economy? It would be difficult even in normal times, without all the handicaps that a law-abiding citizen is burdened with. Add up all the jobs outsourced since the late ’60’s and bring them back, deport all the illegals, stop all the abortions that are killing Americans by the millions and there would be more than enough jobs that people could earn a living at.

ThePatriot1976,
You’re almost completely wrong, and I say this from pure charity.
The man in the Vatican right now is not the Pope. He is an infiltrator. The Beast is John Paul II who is about to be canonized a “saint.” When Benedict XVI makes this guy a “saint,” things will really start getting weird, even more so than right now. I expect that all people will be compelled to worship JPII, his teachings or a combination of both, but it is my personal opinion only. I have studied this and I believe the Bible points directly to JPII. Hardly anything is known about JPII from his early life. The same goes for Obama. My understanding is is that the Man of Sin will be the offspring of a whore, not a virgin. A good reason, indeed, to keep certain family histories vague and hidden.
If you want to challenge your intellect as well as your knowledge of faith, get the book, “The Book of Destiny” by Kramer. It is mostly a Catholic interpretation of the Book of Revelation, but it ties together some of the inconsistencies by both Protestants and Catholics. Pretend just for the sake of the read that you’re partially incorrect about The Faith, or at least keep an open mind when you read this.
And consider this: After the last Apostle died, were there any Christians until Luther came unto the scene? Of course. But how can that be, if the ONLY Church was corrupted either after John died, or when Constantine came to power, or after Constantine died, etc. etc. So bottom line; the Jews only wandered for 40 years in the desert, but is it conceivable that Christians would be allowed to wander for 1200, 1300 or 1500 YEARS?!? Jesus would either be neglectful, insane or a false prophet for any of these to be true. And don’t forget the Holy Spirit being lumped in to the same categories, as well. 1500 years of wandering for no reason and the Jews only wandered 40 years for transgressing the Law of God?!?!? Insanity, pure insanity.
Read the book and then post here again and if you’re at least somewhat convinced, I’ll give you my email address. I can promise I’ll blow away anything else that’s out there on The Faith.

To all you experts out there,
I’m sure there are some homeless people who are just lazy. However, consider for a second what happens when someone earning 50,000 or more per year loses their job. Sure, they could go and take that $12 (that’s actually pretty good for my area) per hour job, but those wages will quickly be absorbed by the gas they burn to get to the job and the increasingly high grocery bill. And don’t forget that lots of people have to provide child care which will suck a low-income paycheck dry. I pay about $600/month for one child and that’s a good price where I live. Subtract this from the 1500/month you’ll make after taxes for a $12/hour job. You now have $900 to pay rent/mortgage, buy gas/car repairs/payments/insurance- -or public transportation fees, ect. ect. Have you considered that some of the people you are looking at in these tent citys ARE IN FACT employed? What happens when your job doesn’t pay what it takes to survive? You live in a tent and get picked on by more fortunate people. Or you can take on multiple jobs and have little to no role in the parenting of your children. Still, a single parent of two would just scrape by with two jobs.

Gregory… I don’t know if you made the comment.. “Homeless = Laziness” because you have failed to educate yourself in that social area of life.. or.. simply put.. u’r a fucktard!! A lot of homeless people have fallen threw the cracks of our Mental Health System and can’t get the help they need… Some have lost everything due to sky rocketing prices on gas, food, etc. When you make minimum wage either in a Single family home or a 2 parent home your always 1 paycheck away from being on the streets. Hell, even people that are paid a higher wage find themselves in that very situation. People also get screwed over if a tragedy has hit their area… tornado’s, earthquakes, fires, floods, hurricane’s… and their Ins. doesn’t cover certain *Acts of God* or they were told.. “Nah~ you don’t need flood Ins. IT NEVER FLOODS HERE!” You’d be surprised at how many people are actually on the streets due to laziness…it’s actually a very small percentage. Maybe you can understand the words that are coming out of my mouth if I use this analogy..
“There’s More Fucktards (like yourself) then there are people that live on the streets due to laziness”
*If you can’t keep it.. @ least keep it REAL!*

We still have money to fully operate Israel’s generous full health care plan for all of its citizens and keep giving Israel $20 million each and every day. We just sent them 1000 bunker buster smart bombs as well and have told them that if anyone they continue to irritate and provoke should attack them, we will consider it the same as an attack on the US. (Though since the world has seen us sustain embarrassing defeats in Iraq and Afghanistan–and Vietnam and Korea before that–there is little we can do to live up to that wild promise and can only pose and send people like Sleeza Rice out to bluster and posture like halfwits across the globe.) Plus the idea of people enlisting in the US military to fight for Israel seems to have lost a little of its glow over the past year or so. As to the guy now running the Catholic Church, it is documented fact that he is a Nazi stormtrooper who fought his heart out against the US when he was younger. The US has bankrupted itself fighting for Bush and Cheney’s lies. And it will be business as usual when the Democrats take over. Already Obama is vowing to send 15,000 more troops to a land avoided by even Genghis Khan and Alexander the Great, both of whom realized there is nothing worth fighting for there.

I am sure there are some lazy ones out there, but here in Reno, as in other areas, the growing number of families displaced by foreclosures and the lack of jobs has made even more people homeless. Have a heart, people, they aren’t all drug addicted hobos, not anymore, not under this crummy president. He bailed his banker friends and he bailed Wall Street, but that doesn’t amount to squat! It isn’t the people’s fault that loans were so available and the markets crashed. The president did not bail the people, heck, his $1200 to married couples turned into a measly $600- I think he is nothing but a big POS.

When Americans going to kill “useless people” like nazis did?
Some ideots thought eliminating oppositions to keep the society stable and strong. The victims were bible believers, Jews, foreigners, people from minority, people belongs to certain factions. I have seen gang stalkers backed up by the FBI helping to oppress foreigners (like international students) and try to seize their belongings. I wonder how many of these poor homeless went through such terrorism against individuals.
In my case, I lost what I had in my apartment and my car as I was a subject of assassination. Seriously, the foreigners should be aware of being stripped off (literaly by millmeterwave devices) and claimed everything for the problem of foreigners and minorities.
September 19th, 2008 at 9:08 pm
Howard aka Shantytown USA ……………What exactly are you getting at. I mean, we all know (I hope we all know) about the “Black Pope” and the Vatican underground. Is there something else ????
Also, I agree with # 22, 23, 24 and 26, I hate it when people assume that homeless people are lazy. Who the fuck would think something like that ?????? I give $$$$$$ to every single homeless person I see. I don’t know why they are homeless and I sure would not ASSUME they are lazy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
September 19th, 2008 at 10:09 pm
Neal: There’s something wrong with your story…not only does it sound typically heartless of a rightwinger-republican supporter it also smacks of illogic…the economy is on the fritz, but according to you everything is fine in Reno…”tons of jobs” and “building”. Are you sure, or are you just a ‘repeater’, which is what it sounds like to me…since you are so quick to repeat some of the same shit we’ve hear for so many years…and by the way how old are you? White and say…24? Male? That’s my guess. No too clever and a tad heartless.
Gregory Fegel: Generally Greg, I support what you say but not this time, with your homelessness equals laziness quote…not always and you shouldn’t brand all folks like that that are in that position, surely some are, surely some aren’t…some have just given up after seeing what they have worked for for several decades blow away along with their home…all that work for nothing is spiritually numbing. Have a heart and a little understanding. With out it these next few years are going to be real bloody. And we Americans are heartless, why else can we bomb and kill over 600,000 Iraqi kids and not care. Next is our kids.
September 20th, 2008 at 12:35 am
Howard aka Shantytown: You scare the shit out of me with your religious hocus-pocus. I mean really. Wow.
As for this homeless dilemma, the Fed bought Fannie & Freddie. The government probably already owns your house… oh, they own AIG now too? They own your insurers if something goes wrong with the house?
Expect more of this, everywhere.
Everywhere.
September 20th, 2008 at 12:57 am
yeah they basically want everybody to be homeless so they can move people into the death camps more easily. thats the plan. wipe out the middle classes take everybodies property so that the government owns everybodies home and then nobody has a leg to stand on. then they’ll take our jobs as well so we’ll all be working for the government through some work scheme so we’ll be completely controlled and poverty stricken and then they’ll just start killing us off
people gotta wake up now otherwise its endgame
September 20th, 2008 at 1:57 am
Nitti, part of the government plan to destroy us is by making the schools are so bad that the people who graduate from them can’t put a simple paragraph together with correct punctuation and a logical flow of ideas. Why don’t you get out there and fight the new world order by taking a basic English class. That’ll show ‘em!
September 20th, 2008 at 1:59 am
See. they’ve even got me!
September 20th, 2008 at 2:01 am
You’re right niti, that’s what this is all about. The US must fall for the NWO to rise.
Alas, when people have nothing to lose and stand with their back against the wall they might be ready for some radical solutions though…
September 20th, 2008 at 2:25 am
Yep… Gotta tear down the old to build the new. If the people are poor, homeless and hungry, they will go along with anything.
September 21st, 2008 at 12:46 am
Many, too many of these homeless are veterans. Are we to believe that they too are all just a bunch of lazy no goods? I think not !, and as a matter of fact there’s more to really loving your country than driving around in your Hummer sporting a ‘Support our Troops’ magnet. Many of these people have had their bodies and minds destroyed by the military industrial complex and its war profiteering only to be tossed by the wayside, moved from the asset column to the liability column. Most of the lazy people I know are filthy rich and have never done an honest days work to justify such splendor. Our economy is in the shitter, we have socialism for the wealthy and now you, me, and every other American has just been anally raped with this ‘bailout’ aka more welfare for the rich. WAKE THE FUCK UP! and stop beating up the victims.
September 21st, 2008 at 6:29 pm
I can’t believe I was born into a world like this. Americans are selfish for the most part. Alot of Americans seem to not care about the unfortunate until it happened to them. I admit that I am mad at Americans for letting this happen. From what I’ve heard alot of Americans sympathized with Nazis during WWII. I understand how they felt about Jewish immigration (but the Jews were scapegoated) but the Nazis wanted to hurt anyone who didn’t support their ideas period. I’m mad at the Jews for not raising Hell when they knew most of the 80% – 90% of the Nazis were released or never saw any real punishment came to the US. The Jews should have been tracking them and never let up along with the American people. The NWO is evil and it is of course their fault for most of this evil that has been occurring but IGNORANCE, arrogance, greed, jealousy, selfish, racism, hatred and more has lead us to this point. The NWO knows how to use all our divisions against us and that was one of the reasons why slavery was wrong and the murder and mistreatment of Indians and Mexicans. The Congress are wusses and almost useless for the most part. They will be eliminated if they don’t stand up for the American people. History either repeats itself or it gets worst.
September 21st, 2008 at 6:42 pm
Why is it that I hear that people who moved to another city to look for a job but can’t find one end up in a tent city? From what I’ve been taught you’re suppose to find a job first then move. It makes me think that those who do that are illegal immigrants. I remember there was one woman who moved to another state with a job in place and was let go immediately cause of down-sizing, now maybe she should have sued if possible.
