So I just saw the new Transformers movie. Two things really popped out at me. There were 2 very ‘current’ references made in the movie both of which seemed akward and out of place. First there was a reference to Obama being airlifted out of Washington. And later on there was a quick reference to swine flu. Both of these topics are relatively current yet the Transformer movie is only out now which means some post editing was obviously done to the movie just before release specifically to add these 2 very awkward and obscure references.
1) When Obama’s name was mentioned it would have made much more sense and been less awkward just to say ‘the president is being airlifted..’. Why make a very specific reference in a movie like Transformers to a real life current day president whom has only been in office for a few months? This was the only reference made to Obama during the whole movie so it was very out of place. All other references made to the president were made as just that.. ‘the president’- which makes a lot more sense and is more appropriate to the context of the movie.

2) The swine flu reference was made when the main character(I forget his name) met up with his former Sector 7 acquaintance whom is now retired and working in a butcher or deli shop of some sort. The former Sector 7 guy took him to his secret room to view some secret files. As they’re entering the secret room they quickly pass by some butchered pigs and an odd reference was made by the main character- something to the effect of ‘ewww swine flu’. Very out of place. Had nothing to do with anything going on in the movie. It’s also worth mentioning that when the character said this line you didn’t actually see his face saying it which is probably because the line was added in post production. Again. A very current day reference which contributed nothing, yet only seemed to awkwardly interrupt the flow of the movie.
The point? Why were awkward yet intentional one time references made to both Obama and the swine flu? During initial production of this movie the swine flu and Obama(as president) weren’t even existant which means they obviously took the time to add these lines in post production or at least very late in production. But why? Were these just very innocent references added in to make the movie more ‘current’ or is someone specifically trying to tells us something about Obama and swine flu?
