“Syria is being invaded by proxy, by the US, NATO, Israel, and the Gulf Cooperative Council (GCC). Of this there is no doubt. The corporate-financier interests driving this agenda have ensured a propaganda campaign will accompany this effort. This propaganda campaign is as ceaseless as it is shameless.” – Tony Cartalucci, “Libyan Terrorists Are Invading Syria,” August 14, 2012.

“What I think we’re getting towards now is a situation where you have to frankly admit there are two blocks of states. There’s an imperialist block with the US, the British, NATO, the Israelis and so forth; but then there’s an anti-imperialist block which is very large and quite formidable when you’ve got Russia, China, India, Pakistan, Indonesia. That’s already a great deal.

Let me also focus on the Pakistani Foreign Minister, Mrs. Khar, who I think made a landmark statement of her own: it’s time now to reject, very categorically, any idea of foreign intervention into Syria.

This leaves the US in a terrible predicament. We have to see how they’re going to get out and it might be some ugly surprises.” – Webster G. Tarpley, “Voltaire Network – Tarpley: 30 Nations Meet in Tehran for Alternative to Hillary Clinton’s Attack on Syria,” August 12, 2012.

More than a year into the illegal Western-led campaign to destabilize Syria and plunge it into the darkness of sectarianism, the majority of the Syrian people are standing by the current government headed by Bashar al-Assad.

Unlike Iraq’s Saddam Hussein and Libya’s Gaddafi, Syria’s leader cannot be easily demonized in the corrupt Western press. Unlike Saddam, Assad has never committed war crimes either against a minority in his country or a sovereign state. As a result, there is substantial and committed international support for his leadership and the current Syrian government.

“Largest nations on Earth converge to support embattled Syrian government,” wrote Tony Cartalucci in his article, “The Syrian Government is Not Isolated.”

Historian Webster G. Tarpley talked about the international support for Syria in this interview.

The claim that Syria is isolated and will soon experience a nation-wide collapse is not based on facts and reality, but ridiculous propaganda. Aside from receiving political support from states like Russia, China, Iran, and Pakistan, the government of Syria is also winning the battle for the hearts and minds, both inside Syria and internationally.

The internal opposition to Assad within Syria has moved away from the foreign-backed insurgency which consists of Islamic terrorists and Al-Qaeda mercenaries who are targeting minorities and massacring civilians.

Washington’s response to the resistance against NATO imperialism by the Syrian people and Syrian state has been mainly concentrated on the propaganda domain. Its failure to demonize Assad hasn’t stopped it from throwing as much mud as possible, hoping some of it sticks.

On the political and diplomatic level, Washington continues to try paint Syria’s international supporters such as China and Russia as the bad guys, but no one is buying what Washington is selling.

In the past, Washington’s tricks and tactics worked successfully, but as French journalist Thierry Meyssan points out in this article, the world has gotten wise to Washington’s game.

Objective international observers do not take Washington’s words seriously anymore. The situation in Syria is making it clear to everyone that Washington no longer has the soft power that it used to have in plenty. If Washington wants regime change in Syria then exercising its hard power is the only way to go. Washington’s stranglehold on the global narrative has ceased, its international media supremacy is gone, and all that it has left is its overcharged imperial military.

Of course, Washington’s decline of soft power is not good news either for Syria or the world. The absence of its soft power means it will go from shadow boxing with its enemies to unleashing hell on the Middle East.

The mood in Washington is disquieting. Military and political leaders are hostile to global public opinion, and don’t want the imperial adventure in Syria to end anytime soon.

“Across most of the American political spectrum,” wrote Flynt Leverett and Hillary Mann Leverett on August 13, “policy elites are urging that the United States double down on the Obama administration’s failing Syria policy.”

As many others have warned, the world should be ready for some sort of false flag in the Persian Gulf to escalate the war against Iran, or an overt NATO military intervention in Syria to overthrow its popular government. Both attacks will probably coincide with each other. From USrael’s perspective, there is no point in fighting a half-war in Syria because the situation calls for a total war against Iran, Syria, Hezbollah, and others in the region who belong to the anti-USrael alliance.

Overthrowing the government of Syria was never about getting rid of a dictator and protecting the Syrian people, but weakening the resistance to USraeli aggression and wars. Hezbollah leader Hasan Nasrallah said in his speech in July that Syria is the “cornerstone” of the resistance against USrael. Without this cornerstone in place, the people of the Middle East would become even bigger hostages to the evil sadists who control USrael and start illegal wars every five or so years.

In his article, “Syria is only a pretext,” Thierry Meyssan explains that the Western war against Syria is a direct attack on the legacy of international law and the United Nations system. Meyssan writes:

“Western governments have no interest in the welfare of Syria since they are the ones arming the mercenaries who are torturing and murdering Syrians on a grand scale and they have no intention of stopping. Their diplomatic activity is exclusively directed towards a formal denunciation of Russia and China and, further, toward a challenge of the very existence of international law.”

In the coming months, USrael, Turkey, and the medieval Gulf monarchies will expand their criminal campaign of terror and destabilization in Syria.

At that point, the war for Syria will morph into the war for the world.
