Political economist and best-selling geopolitical author F. William Engdahl says that the U.S. risks stumbling into a nuclear war with Russia over the situation in Georgia and South Ossetia, as President Bush and Condoleezza Rice both heightened their rhetoric against alleged military breaches of the cease-fire.
The Secretary of State has threatened Russia with international isolation over its response to the Georgian sneak attack on South Ossetia last week, an assault that claimed around 2,000 civilian lives.
President Bush has also demanded Russia change its course amid talk of the country having its G8 membership suspended and its WTO membership blocked.
Western news outlets claimed again today that Russia continues to perform aggressive military maneuvers inside Georgia, but such reports have been strenuously denounced by Russian officials as propaganda. Yesterday’s widely-reported allegations, that Russian forces were assaulting the Georgian town of Gori and heading for the capital Tblisi, proved to be inaccurate.

On Monday night Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili falsely claimed that Russia had launched a full scale invasion of Georgia to “cut it in half,” in what observers called an attempt to stir the U.S. and Europe into offering immediate military support. Saakashvili lied again when he claimed that Tbilisi airport and Poti port would be placed under the control of the U.S. military, a claim swiftly denied by the Pentagon.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov today labeled such reports as “A propaganda scam, that is attempting to present an aggression on the part of the Georgian army against its own citizens as a conflict between Georgia and Russia.”
Lavrov also warned Washington had to choose between cooperation with Russia or continuing its “virtual project” with Georgia. Georgia is a U.S./NATO client state run by a puppet President installed via a fake color revolution that was funded by American NGO’s and the CIA.
Geopolitical expert and author of the best-selling book “A Century of War: Anglo-American Oil Politics and the New World Order”, F. William Engdahl today warns that the crisis could escalate into a full blown nuclear showdown between the U.S. and Russia.
“What Washington is literally playing with here is nuclear war by miscalculation – thinking they can outflank the Russians psychologically and militarily,” said Engdahl, adding that Russia has clearly drawn a line in the sand with regards to Georgia’s attempt to invade South Ossetia.
“Russia went into Georgia to essentially deliver a message,” states Engdahl . “There are more than 1,000 US military special forces in Georgia doing exercising, training Georgian troops, before Georgia launched the attack on Ossetia on 8 August. There are 1,000 Israeli troops at least, private security firms and military advisors, including advisors who are upgrading the Georgian air force in an installation near Tbilisi. That’s what the Russian airplanes hit, and they essentially made the military strike on South Ossetia militarily impossible by making incursions inside Georgian territory before they announced that they were calling a halt to their military operations.”
Engdahl states that the conflict boils down to the fact that there is a new cold war over oil in the Central Asian region, with U.S. oil companies having opened the BTC pipeline which runs through Azerbaijan and Georgia and brings oil from the Caspian Sea to the west, sidelining Russian territory.

The more empty threats the Bush Administration makes the more pathetic it looks.Russia has paid off all its debts, Russia has enormous natural resources that other countries will buy regardless of whether Russia is in the G8 or not, especially oil and natural gas that Europe absolutely needs. Russia has huge deposits of gold and if they ever backed the Ruble as rumored with gold it would become the world’s currency. Oh, and as they just demonstrated they have a very capable military. Tearing a page from the Reagan doctrine if they do negotiate they will do so from the position of strength. We on the other hand thanks to the idiot neo-con doctrine of Bush are debt-ridden to the fourth or perhaps fifth generation from now, have a broken down, worn out military and the dollar is hardly worth the paper it’s printed on.

I just cannot see the elite [ who control both sides ] wanting to mess up THEIR planet too, too much with a full scale nuke war.

What’s more horrifying is those who completely understand it, know that in order for them to live like that, literally thousands more suffer. And they aren’t going to give anything up. Therefore we know we are doomed, but f**k it. The i’m alright Jack attitude is here to stay sadly. We live in a greedy, self obsessed, information economy where people are paid more to pass virtual money about, than most of those in practical, real labourous, creative jobs. Society is feeding this and politicians, estate agents (realtors? is that the same thing in the US?) solicitors/lawyers, bankers are all at the centre of most of the problems globally. The remainder of the issues we see are surpressed folk acting out only in ways their uneducated manner will allow and that is steal or kill.

Were it not for the unadulterated arrogance of George W. Bush and Condoleeza Rice, their sheer hypocrisy would be laughable, yet due to their brazen instrusiveness and insolence, their very presence rankles, their words grate in the ears. Their messages cannot go unanswered.
Here we have a George W. Bush and a Conzoleeza Rice, with expressions of total preoccupation on their faces (are they worried about the implication of US military advisors in the act of butchery perpetrated by Georgian forces against ethnic Russians and Ossetians, when in one night 2.000 civilians were slaughtered?), speaking about the need to adhere to international law at the beginning of the 21st century.
Here we have a President and his Secretary of State condemning Russia and supporting Georgia without one single word of mention of the Georgian war crimes which started this whole sorry affair. Not one single word of mention about the obligation Georgia had to hold a referendum in Abkhazia and South Ossetia under the terms of the Soviet Constitution, namely as regards its provisions for the voluntary dissolution of the Union or secession of Member States.
Here we have two senior members of a regime which entered Iraq based upon a tissue of lies, which then declared that the goal was regime change and which proceeded to mastermind a kangaroo court which changed the judges numerous times until who they purport as being His Excellency President Saddam Hussein al-Tikriti was hanged by the neck. Then they complain about Russia wanting to remove that criminal murderer, Saakashvili?
They have the audacity to complain about Russia violating Georgia’s frontiers, when the US armed forces invaded Iraq and slaughtered hundreds of thousands of civilians? They have the cheek to complain about Russian military operations when cluster bombs were dropped into civilian areas in Iraq, when prisoners were tortured in Abu Ghraib, when innocent people were rounded up and sent to the illegal concentration camp at Guantanamo, where they did not even have access to a due legal process?
They have the sheer, pig-headed arrogance to speak about the territorial integrity of Georgia, when Iraq was invaded outside any norm of international law, its civilian structures were targeted with military hardware and reconstruction contracts were doled out without tender to White House cronies?
Suppose Russia claimed that it wanted regime change in Georgia, invaded the country, slaughtered hundreds of thousands of its citizens, deployed WMD in civilian areas, raped and tortured prisoners, caught Saakashvili and hanged him? Morally, Bush, Rice and their entire odious and satanic regime would not be able to say a single word without the label “hypocrisy” choking them in their throats.
How can these two, the Riddler and the Joker of international politics, the Himmler and Torquemada of modern diplomatic history, be expected to be taken seriously? Do they really think that there is a single human being on this planet who does not sneer in derision and stick up his middle finger every time they appear on a TV screen?

Hypocrites! Don’t cast stones if you have roofs made of glass. What the USA did in Iraq was a thousand times more than what Russia is doing in Georgia, namely launching a punitive raid after the slaughter of 2.000 of its citizens by the forces George Bush and Condoleeza Rice’s armed forces train. And these two do not even have the decency to refer to Georgia’s war crimes. How low can you get?
How about sending more military advisors to Georgia, since the hundreds they had there did such a wonderful job? Like their politicians, the US armed forces are a joke, no more than a bunch of murdering callous torturers belonging more in a medieval torture chamber than in the 21st century.

What have we done with those that we have conquered and what do we have to show for it?
Technologically, this is one of the most exciting times to be alive and yet we are all in a very bad situation because far less of our achievements have been put to use for mankind. This is a responce to RayB.Ray, your idea would only work if people were well informed,concerning the issues voted upon.The average American is not well informed about anything,except sports and their own livlihood.Many Americans can not even find the USA on a map.
Uninformed people seldom make good decisions,for reasons that should be obvious.
If people were more informed concerning world events I seriously doubt that the corperations would have the power and rights they have now.Surly people would demand that the goverment not afford a corperation the same rights as a person? How many people even know that corperations gained legal status equal to individuals due to a mistake made by a court clerk during a railroad case in the 1880’s?
Besides being uninformed,Americans seldom question ideas,authority,or the orgin of customs and tradition.This bothers me more than the fact that folks are uninformed.Just look at our criminal justice system;how on earth can we call a system in which you must pay your way out of jail-”even if you are presumed innocent”Just? Yet how many people question the utilization of a system that really has not changed much since the middle ages,a time when people believed in such nonsense as the devine right of kings?

You know? I get so sick of seeing nothing but generic, stereotypical HATRED coming from so many small minds that it really makes me wonder if the human (disg)race will ever make amends to the millenia of evil that so many for far too long have allowed, by proxy, to continue to resurface and reinfect political institutions all over the world!!!
I am sooooo tired of the constant bickering about “who kicked who’s dog” and blah, blah, blah!!! There are a few cooler heads; that I am aware of. Causing untold cancers, miscarriges and fetal deformities. Moreover, the USA has poisened over 350,000 soldiers with DU, from the first Gulf War. Time will tell how many from the present wars. As a topper McCain, no brain, said yesterdsy. Nations invading other nations in the 21st centuary is unacceptable. Was McCain talking about our wars in Iraq and Afganistan?He is an idiot too.
