It won’t make a difference. The U.K. goverment disregards all religious views that contradict what they believe is ‘for our own good’. They will continually try to appear pc and yet they will never take account of people’s religiouse and moral beliefs.
As one of those wacky jesus freaks I personally believe that the ID card is one step closer to the mark of the devil, and that in 20 – 50 years we will be forced to have chips implanted at birth in order to recieve education, health care etc.

and on the subject of china, do you fancy having to know how to jump out of a second storey building with your hands tied behind your back in order to feel safe in worshipping how you please.

You should not be so snobby about how others write. One of your great authors of the 20th century, Jack Kerouac wrote beat. Its just another form of expression.
In the interests of fairness I must add Orwell would not have appreciated “used to be a proud Brits” vocabulary. As reference I cite “Why I write,” circa 1947″ for Orwell, and “Big Sur” for Kerouac circa 1962.
