WASHINGTON (Reuters) – More than a quarter of all Americans are now obese, the latest U.S. government figures show.
The percentage of U.S. adults who are obese grew by nearly 2 percent between 2005 and 2007, from just under 24 percent to 25.6 percent, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported on Thursday.
Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee had the worst rates, with 30 percent of adults reporting weights that made them medically obese.

Colorado had the slimmest population, with 18.7 percent of people reporting weights that put them in the obese category.
Obesity is defined as having a body mass index or BMI of 30 or above. BMI is calculated using height and weight. For example, a 5-foot, 9-inch (175 cm) tall adult who weighs 203 pounds (92 kg) would have a BMI of 30.
BMI takes into account variations in build for all but the most heavily muscled athletes.
“The epidemic of adult obesity continues to rise in the United States indicating that we need to step up our efforts at the national, state and local levels,” said Dr. William Dietz, director of the CDC’s Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity.
“We need to encourage people to eat more fruits and vegetables, engage in more physical activity and reduce the consumption of high calorie foods and sugar sweetened beverages in order to maintain a healthy weight,” Dietz said.
CDC researchers used data from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, an annual telephone survey of more than 350,000 adults.
Southerners are the heaviest Americans, on average, with 27 percent obese. Just over 25 percent of adults in the Midwest, 23 percent in the Northeast, and 22 percent in the West were obese.

This article doesn’t address the far worst problem of fat cells pushing out and replacing neuron cells located between the ears.
And as we all biologically know, fat cells do not have the capability of generating thoughts or retaining knowlege. That’s the job of neurons.
Yes, the USA has become a nation of drooling morons who can barely even tell the difference between up and down anymore. The USA has become a nation of fatheads.
I’d like to say, “Ha ha, I’m just kidding!” But, to tell the truth, I don’t think I am. And that’s scarey.

“BMI takes into account variations in build for all but the most heavily muscled athletes.” Yeah, right! The USA has some of the largest and strongest athletes around and plenty of them. I am no olympic athlete myself, but because I love powerlifting, I weigh 230 at five feet, ten inches. According to the BMI, I’m obese. Really? I have less than 12% bodyfat. I, like so many American kids, started lifting weights while playing high school football. American football is by far the most popular sport in the USA. So, therefore, more and more kids play this sport where sheer physical size is a tremendous asset. In so many other countries, the favored sport is Soccer. This is a sport where large, muscularly heavy men would be at a disadvantage to the smaller, quicker athlete that dominates Soccer. While I certainly am not blind and can see that a LOT of Americans are WAY TOO FAT, I think that the problem is overblown by the Mainstream Media. After all, what are we going to do about this obesity problem? Tax fast food, control how much butter you can buy, or ban Twinkies? Just another way for Big Brother to invade your life! So, go ahead and cut down your bodyfat, just hope the government doesn’t make you do it!

I am a sociologist who researches this. There are other studies that find obesity has leveled off. People should be aware of the fact that Dietz has had diet company connections in the past. Also, that this is a PHONE survey, so not one single weight was verified. Weight obsession is one way billions go from the middle class to the corporate elite every year. This hysteria is nothing but a marketing tactic from pharma. Weight obsession also keeps sheeple focused on their scales while corporate crooks loot the country. Enough is enough! Forget about your waistlines and worry about how we are going to reclaim our civil liberties!

Fat is the result of “lazy” inactivity-period.
I can solve every fat person’s weight problem;
Ride a bicycle 30 minutes Twice a day.
Use full effort, get comfortable, and go somewhere.
I am 43, every time my pants get tight, I ride my bike- just days later, pants fit loose.
Nothing else changed, where did the fat go?

Don’t worry. With the coming food shortage, Americans will lose that weight naturally.

I suspect one of the main culprits is Processed junk foods (just like it says JUNK!)
Chemicals are also used to whiten white flour products, these chemicals effect the pancrease!That includes cracker’s cake’s,ect., basicially what is found again in PROSSESED JUNK FOOD!
And of course SODA POP OF ALL KINDS!
ALSO other chemicals found in foods!

People eat meat from animals that have been pumped full of human growth hormone, then they wonder why they’re fat? It’s not healthy to eat animal products. If you eat it & turn into a heifer – well, you’ve been warned that you are what you eat. Moooo!

high fructose corn syrup, like sucrose (white sugar) is contained in nearly everything, check the labels on the foods you buy. it just takes a bit of sugar to make your stomach into a still of swirling sugar. sugar triggers your body to create fat cells. sugar triggers a huge insulin dump which over time creates diabetes over time, an epidemic. HFCS especially triggers belly fat because it goes straight to the liver, the worst kind of fat for the heart. why do so many foods have high fructose corn syrup, even foods that are not supposed to taste sweet? [conspiracy] HFCS also harms the liver. look at the name, just like the Patriot Act (who would oppose that? only a treasonous spy!). high fructose, um, isn’t that like from fruit? so it must be good and there is a lot of it. corn syrup, hm, that sounds organic, corn can’t hurt you. it is even in tomato sauce. cut out HFCS and reduce sucrose and you will lose weight. you might notice your craving for sweets reduces too.

I am am in the beginning stages of stopping this trend myself. I would recommend getting the book, “The Ph Miracle” and go research drnatura.com and check out their “Colonix” system. Alkalize the Ph in your bloodstream and flush out all the toxins you’ve accumulated over your lifetime. Find some reviews on this product as the two reviews I researched both list Colonix as #1. So far, fater almost two weeks of an alkalized eating regimen and 4 days on the cleanser, I have lost about 5 pounds and have about 25% more energy. I spent $50 on an expensive “laxative,” without doing the research. It was a waste of time and money. Please check it out. We’re going to need all the energy we can muster to survive the coming chaos.

another recommendation.
just Google… herbal liposuction
it is just a lotion that you put on overnight.
i did and lost two inches in one night..uh.. around my waist!
i am not making money on this but i am tired of seeing every 1 in 4 people not being able to fit into their pants and so many people that are just physical monstrosities.
give it a try!

@Howard
Any talk of manipulating the ph of your blood is snake oil. Your body has to maintain a very narrow range of ph (7.35-7.45) for things to work right. If those ‘ph miracles’ worked like they say, you’d be visiting the hospital quite often. Whether those things work or not is a different story, but they do not work as advertised.
@HH
Sugar, i.e. sucrose, is broken down in your digestive system into about half fructose and half glucose. That’s just about the same as high fructose corn syrup, which is right around half fructose and half glucose. I’m with you on the prevalence of these sugars creating blood sugar issues, which I think is the most likely cause of obesity.
