U.S. Headed for ‘Heightened Alert’ Stage

Government officials have been quietly stepping up counterterror efforts out of a growing concern that al Qaeda or similar organizations might try to capitalize on the spate of extremely high-profile events in the coming months, sources tell ABC News.
Security experts point to next month’s Olympics as evidence that high-profile events attract threats of terrorism, like the one issued this past weekend by a Chinese Muslim minority group that warned of its intent to attack the Games.
Anti-terror officials in the U.S. cite this summer and fall’s lineup of two major political parties’ conventions, November’s general election and months of transition into a new presidential administration as cause for heightened awareness and action.

This is what the Department of Homeland Security is quietly declaring a Period of Heightened Alert, or POHA, a time frame when terrorists may have more incentive to attack.
According to drafts of government memos described to ABC News, the period would run roughly from this August through July 2009.
During this time, homeland security analysts will be asked to redouble efforts to study terrorism leads. And a number of agencies will be asked to review emergency response plans to a variety of attacks, from improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to biological weapons.

Could one of the cited events become the one that triggers a national state of emergency which will suspend, Congress, the constitution, elections, and implement martial law?

Period of Heightened Alert, POHA Hmmm, let me see now… where does that one fall on the existing Terror Alert Level Meter. Would that be somewhere between yellow and orange?? Or is POHA more like a hue of yellow or perhaps a pastel shade of orange? Hey! Maybe its the new Hybrid Alert Level that blends the latest haute pastels of orange and green into the P.O.H.A. Level!! Wow! Sooooo Cooool! Can you lend us a hand here Mr Chertoff? But… hold up a sec! if we are just now entering a period of ‘heightened alert’ then exactly what has been our level of alert PRIOR to this new level. Just Alert? Observant? Cautious? OH MY GOD! Have we been un-ALERT up until this ‘Heightened’ Alert??? or just as bad have we simply been only ‘Alert’!?!?!?!?!? I shudder to think about this. Does Mr. Chertoff really think its justifiable to have anything LESS than Heightened Alert since those bad guys brought down the twin towers and building 7 because they hated our freedoms? How can they just now enter a state of heightened alertness? I thought our valiant elected officials promised us that they were doing EVERYTHING possible to protect us… our famiies… our children from these horrible bad people who are trying to strip us of our FREEDOMS!!!!! Is’nt it safe to think that heightened alert would at least be the very minimal included in an effort to protect us by EVERY MEANS POSSIBLE? and only now we are heightening our alert! MICHAEL! Look for Israel to bomb Iran during the New Moon..complete darkness suitable for Air attacks and 4th Gen night vision technology.
It appears that the Iranians have made the mistake of signaling a willingness to negotiate…something that the US and Israel fear.

Last night I was near the major airport here in RI and the elert was up to orange! Isn’t that the last one before red? My Husband and I were like “What”? There’s nothing happening? Is there?
