US loses 467,000 jobs, unemployment at 9.5%

US employers shed 467,000 jobs in June, pushing the unemployment rate to a fresh 26-year high of 9.5 percent, the Labor Department reported Thursday.
Analysts had expected a smaller number of 365,000 job losses, but a higher unemployment rate of 9.6 percent. The jobless rate in May was 9.4 percent.

The agency revised its estimates for May to show fewer job cuts — 322,000 instead of 345,000. But the April figure was revised from a loss of 504,000 to 519,000 jobs.
The report, one of the best indicators of economic momentum, appeared to dash hopes for a quick turnaround in the labor market, after a moderation in job losses in May.

but wait! 91% are STILL EMPLOYED? The inverse sounds way better. Plus, a desperate man would work anywhere! These numbers are based on people’s laziness. If someone needs money all they need to do is hustle more. Sell oranges on the side of the road, help someone move etc etc

You talk like an idiot, sir jorge, firstly the number is false. The goverment will never give out the truth of the matter, as this figure does not include those just laid off and not yet filing, those that have run out of unemployment, and those that have given up, and those that only work part time as they can find nothing else. 9.5% is based on those actually registered and receiving unemployment. Ask those who have sent out hundreds of resumes with no response, who need medical care, who have families to support and you will see, you damn fool, how “easy” it is to support a family on selling oranges!!! Your stupid remark indicates that you are safely ensconsed in a secure job and have plenty of disposable income. Yes??

Hey Mean Jean,
I have to agree with both of you, you both have valid points. Jorge has a valid point, many Mexican’s who came here, sell oranges, pick up bottles and cans, sort through garbage, etc to make a living for themselves. I remember a story on Good Morning America, where a family of illegals came over, and supported their family on collecting trash, cans, etc and selling them… and that all 3 of their kids are now going to college because of their hard work and labor. This family made a living, from what American’s threw away! They weren’t afraid to get dirty, and they damn sure were looking for a government handout.
Many American’s will die, of starvation, in a field full of food, because they either do not know how to harvest it, or how to get off their ass, off the government dole and work like our forefathers did.
Did Washington have SSI to fall back on? Did our forefathers have medicare, medicaid, food stamps, etc to keep them alive when the *jobs* were gone?
Nope, they got off their ass, grew a garden, learned how to make things to sell, how to work the land, and survived by the labor of their hands, not the money given to them by the government.
Soon, we will all go back to this simpler way of living.
You also make valid points Mean Jean, the government lies not only to the American people, but to the world, so they don’t know how bad things really are. Unemployment is 16.8 percent here, via the local papers, you don’t hear that on the national news though.
No one said this is going to be an easy transition… nor is it going to be fun.
People willing to do whatever it takes, not only to survive, but thrive, will rise themselves up once again from the ashes of the economic depression we are in.
My grandfather told me of a time during the great depression that he loaded watermellons on the back of a truck all day, for a nickle and a moon pie. I doubt you’ll find many people in America, who are willing to work so hard, for so little today. Those you do find, will more than likely be the illegal immigrants, and for that, I tip my hat to them.

Thank you, Madman for your very excellent reply. Rarely have I come across such an intelligent and well thought out post. I saw the same doc on the Mexican family. They even had computers in their cramped apt. One the other side, was this young couple who experimented on trying to live on $5 a day or something and even fought over 79 cents the husband spent on a pastery. You are right, we don’t know how to live when things get rough and I fear murderous riots and thugs taking over the streets when we finally crash.
The Elites have destroyed our ability to make do by giving us everything on a silver platter. When we are handed it empty, and it will happen soon, we will most likely starve and die. I for one will not, but I don’t know about the others. Please post more, Madman. I like you.

You are right to fear Murderous Riots, it’s the reasons I bought guns, not so much to fight the government, but the crazy, unstable people who will not know how to cope when the free money the government is sending them ends, and they have no way to feed their family. Like Gerald Celente said, when someone has lost everything, and has nothing left to lose, they lose it, to paraphrase.
People willing to do whatever it takes to survive, will in fact survive. It will honestly be that simple. The people who look for the government to save them, take care of them, etc will soon wake up to the fact that there is no money left to send to them, no help to be given, and then they will go crazy.
People living on 5 dollars a day, that’s roughly 150 dollars a month, that’s hardly toilet paper and frozen meals for most people, let alone gas, food, water, power, etc.
The NWO plan, was to lower all of our standards of living, to around the 2000 a year mark, like in most third world countries. The American people have grown fat, lazy, spoiled, and morally bankrupt. So, their first reaction when the free money dries up, will be massive looting, robbing, and killing, because they will go crazy… and just wipe out all the stores, liquor stores, grocery, etc… and everyone will have a weeks worth of food, and a 42 plasma tv, no power, no water, and will be sitting around, going WTF.
Think about the situation during Hurricane Katrina, except on a National scale… people running in and stealing / looting anything they can get, and if they do send them to Fema Camps, look for those camps to have human feces, urine, blood, etc on every square inch of them, becoming a breeding ground for every virus or infection on Earth. Think Super Dome, just over the WHOLE of AMERICA.
A few well armed men and women will fight off these hordes, who will organize with their fellow gang members, etc to do massive looting, etc for their collective good. I think the American People, once they are off the Government Payroll, will be a much greater threat to most people, than the Fema Camps, the US Government, etc.
Not saying that they won’t be huge threats, not in the least, but the first wave will be a couple million pissed off welfare recipients, etc going ape sh*t and killing their fellow man for a Twinky or a piece of meat… give them a month, and you’ll see man in his most feral state… angry, savage, and hungry.

To put it politely, California, has the highest unemployment in the country because illegal aliens cannot collect unemployment bennifit’s legaly so they are not fully counted as unemployed. Government IOU’s will work as good toilet paper.
One idea for them though, all government agencies have to accept the IOU’s at face value, for any debt, public or private, at a 1.5 value marked on the voucher.
So, you get a voucher for 10 bucks, it’s worth 15 dollars government money.
It would be accepted at the local water, electricity, tax offices, bails bondsmen, police stations, etc. They would also have to make them function fully as state ran food stamps.
Then you would have a IOU, that would net you a 50% profit on anything the state can provide.
As it is right now, give California till the end of August… at best… isn’t their a banker holiday coming up soon? What better time to announce the bankruptcy of the American people than then?

Based on the morning traffic in Sacramento for the past 10 months, unemployment is a whole hell of a lot worse here than one may suspect. I can get from Folsom to the Downtown in 20 minutes at 7.30 am.
It used to be if you were caught anywhere in between at that hour, you were well and truly fucked….and WAY late for work.
Now, no problem. Sleep in a little longer!

All I see driving around my neighborhood are businesses for sale, building for rent, most with a *FREE RENT* sign outside, and no new companies or jobs filling those empty spaces.

Think about it… they reported the Unemployment level at a level they thought would be somewhat acceptable, and the Dow dropped 230 some points… if they told us the real deal on the news, the Dow would be closed, because of the massive sell off that would happen.
Right now, most wall streeters are still under Hopenosis, or at least pushing the fallacy so they can drain your wallet and your wealth as quickly as possible. The kicker is, no matter who I tell, no one will listen.
My Aunt could retire off the money she has in the stock market, but CHOOSES to watch it fade away every day, thinking that every day, she’ll make her money back.

You are right. Many US citizen got unemployed not only in the United States but in the whole world. The world facing a crises right now. I am a college student because of the financial crises right now I become a blood donor and I make up to $50/hour for blood donation! This is only an extra money but least it helps of my studies and also I save lives. I just found out that the Blood bank shortages kill tons of people all the time. I think this is the to Spread the word about blood donation and giving blood and we all benefit. You never know when YOU might need blood.

My mother has three more years to retire at the U.S. post office.
The let go all people with seven or less years experience.
Now they are relieving the long-term people. The post office used to be a super-secure job.
Fortunately my mother got in before Reagan made contract changes, so they will have to buy her out and chances are they won’t do that.
The post office is broke and by the end of the year will be in serious debt. It will then be privatized.

The misguided $700B+ “stimulus” legislation has already crapped out: these figures are far worse than the ones the White House warned us about if we DIDN’T pass the bill- but it was passed, and still unemployment soars?
Instead of creating jobs, interest rates were bumped up, the dollar slid… and it didn’t help anybody get any work. Much of this is due to the fact that Obama’s agenda has mortified almost every machine of job-and-growth creation in the country. The Democrats had to insist and tax-n-spend, rather than a tax holiday for six months… can you imagine how things would be doing with a $700B tax cut instead?
And the One couldn’t deliver the type of “temporary, targeted, and timely” bill that he promised for weeks. Irregardless of his beautified image in the press, Obama lacks the the political stature to control Pelosi and Reid… who hit the trough hard, while bickering like siblings.
But the lack of GOP co-conspirators exposed Obama politically… this legislation now looks to be a huge gamble. And when all this pork-n-welfare fails to generate any real economic gains… the Democrats could face a bloodbath in 2010.
One could make the argument that Obama knows his legacy will be in tatters by 2012, and could care less how much damage his radical programs do to the economy…. and is ramming through as much of his far-left agenda as he can before the day comes when people cringe at the mere mention of his name
