U.S. Military Investigator Confirms Women and Children Were Raped At Abu Ghraib
After years of corporate media whitewashing Abu Ghraib abuse in the context of college fraternity-style humiliation, truth about rape and sexual torture of women and children finally being reported

It only took five years, but the mainstream media has finally acknowledged the truth behind why certain photos and videos from the infamous Abu Ghraib prison camp have been blocked from public release – they show U.S. soldiers and other prison guards raping female detainees as well as children.
In an interview with the London Telegraph, Major General Antonio Taguba, the former army officer who conducted an inquiry into the Abu Ghraib jail in Iraq, confirmed the details of his original army report, that the unreleased photos showed rape and sexual abuse of women and minors.
“At least one picture shows an American soldier apparently raping a female prisoner while another is said to show a male translator raping a male detainee,” reports the Telegraph, adding, “Further photographs are said to depict sexual assaults on prisoners with objects including a truncheon, wire and a phosphorescent tube.”
Taguba also verified the credibility of eyewitness statements from other detainees that described an American-Egyptian male translator in uniform raping teenage boys.
Among the graphic statements, which were later released under US freedom of information laws, is that of Kasim Mehaddi Hilas in which he says: “I saw [name of a translator] ******* a kid, his age would be about 15 to 18 years. The kid was hurting very bad and they covered all the doors with sheets. Then when I heard screaming I climbed the door because on top it wasn’t covered and I saw [name] who was wearing the military uniform, putting his **** in the little kid’s ***…. and the female soldier was taking pictures.”
“These pictures show torture, abuse, rape and every indecency,” Taguba told the Telegraph.

Taguba’s confirmation that the photos depict rape mean that President Obama could only have been lying when he claimed, “I want to emphasize that these photos that were requested in this case are not particularly sensational, especially when compared to the painful images that we remember from Abu Ghraib.”
As we reported last week, such horrors have been on the record for years, yet corporate media coverage of the Abu Ghraib scandal still frames the entire issue in the context that the “abuse” consisted merely of college fraternity-style humiliation and stacking prisoners in human pyramids.
In reality, the very worst of the torture has never been seen and it includes raping women and children, as well as brutally beating detainees to death.
Further details were also made public by New Yorker investigative journalist Seymour Hersh, who in July 2004 told an ACLU conference,
“Some of the worst things that happened you don’t know about, okay?” said Hersh. “Videos, there are women there. Some of you may have read that they were passing letters out, communications out to their men. This is at Abu Ghraib … The women were passing messages out saying ‘Please come and kill me, because of what’s happened’ and basically what happened is that those women who were arrested with young boys, children in cases that have been recorded. The boys were sodomized with the cameras rolling. And the worst above all of that is the soundtrack of the boys shrieking that your government has. They are in total terror. It’s going to come out.”
Following his refusal to release the unseen photos, the ACLU charged that President Obama “has essentially become complicit with the torture that was rampant during the Bush years by being complicit in its coverup.” The Obama administration has also sought to protect intelligence officials involved in torture from prosecution at every turn.

I suspect they were caused to come into existence by those who needed a way to quickly jumpstart, aggravate provoke a “war of civilizations” as needed.

That’s obvious, and it was unnecessary to state in the article because 95% of Americans weren’t stationed at Gunatanamo.
Thing is, we know that the the CIA & military intelligence designed & endorsed many of the abuses these people suffered – including the sexual humiliation – that this happened not just in Cuba, but in Iraq and Afghanistan as well, and that at least 100 prisoners have been murdered in our custody, a figure that is 5 years old.

I don’t know how the people at Fox News sleep at night. (comment out of left field? just wait, there’s more…) They spend all that time promoting the war, it turns out to be a bunch of bunk but LOTS of people end up dying. We must use temperance when reading and learning, and writing about the abuses of our systems of forcing Democracy on other nations whom really do not seems to want it. I for one think Non-interventionism is a better stance in this day an age. I also am one whom support our Troops in general. Their Job is a hard one, and one must agree that when you have an Army of 500,000 men and women, there will inevitably be a few “BAD APPLES”. I recently attended a symposium by Philip Zimbardo, professor emeritus at Stanford University, here in Irvine, California. He is known for his Stanford prison study where students were randomly assigned to be “prisoners” or “guards” in a mock prison located in the basement of the psychology building at Stanford.
The students quickly began acting out their roles, with “guards” becoming sadistic and “prisoners” showing extreme passivity and depression. Prisoners and guards rapidly adapted to their roles, stepping beyond the boundaries of what had been predicted and leading to dangerous and psychologically damaging situations. One-third of the guards were judged to have exhibited “genuine” sadistic tendencies, while many prisoners were emotionally traumatized and five had to be removed from the study early.
Ethical concerns surrounding the famous study often draw comparisons to the Milgram (obedience) experiment, which was conducted in 1961 at Yale University by Stanley Milgram, Zimbardo’s former high school friend. The Milgram experiment demonstrated how people will conform to the principles of authority even when they know it is morally, ethically, and even legally wrong.
Before conducting the experiment, Milgram polled fourteen Yale University senior-year psychology majors as to what they thought would be the results. All of the poll respondents believed that only a few (average 1.2%) would be prepared to inflict the maximum voltage. Milgram also informally polled his colleagues and found that they, too, believed very few subjects would progress beyond a very strong shock.
In Milgram’s first set of experiments, 65 percent (26 of 40) of experiment participants administered the experiment’s final 450-volt shock, though many were very uncomfortable doing so; at some point, every participant paused and questioned the experiment, some said they would refund the money they were paid for participating in the experiment. Only one participant steadfastly refused to administer shocks before the 300-volt level.
Now, in 2004, Zimbardo testified for the defense in the court martial of Sgt. Ivan “Chip” Frederick, a guard at Abu Ghraib prison. He argued that Frederick’s sentence should be lessened due to mitigating circumstances, explaining that few individuals can resist the powerful situational pressures of a prison, particularly without proper training and supervision. The judge apparently disregarded Zimbardo’s testimony, and gave Frederick the maximum 8-year sentence. Zimbardo drew on the knowledge he gained from his participation in the Frederick case to write a new book entitled, The Lucifer Effect: Understanding How Good People Turn Evil, about the connections between Abu Ghraib and the prison experiments.

I was in Iraq in 2003 and i would not put this past anyone in the military. Be it the Army, Navy Marines, or the Air force….there are sick fuckers everywhere…….just Google Marines raping or abusing other Marines……hazing is a huge problem…….how could u not think they would do this to children when they do it to their own people………..here is an idea…..get the pics ….then figure out who they were …..and send those sick fucks back to prison because the Military if full some very evil people…….stupid ignorant evil people……..seriously how could any Marine or vet who has really been in Iraq ignore this…………I knew a guy name Sgt Kupurus who was in my platoon…the whole time he was in Iraq he was abusing his squad….smashing their heads into walls ……on a huge power trip…..and guess what, even when he got back home from Iraq he sneaks with his girlfriend onto a hill and starts shooting random people in the face with a pellet gun at a BBQ…..then he comes back to the barracks bragging about it …..guess what, he reenlisted….he is still in the ranks ….the chain of command thought he was the best thing since slide bread………about half of the military have some serious problems….the other half are good people…….i think it is time to look at these pics and then send everyone to jail who was responsible for these actions……..i could talk for hours about abuse i have seen in the military ……u have to think about the good people who are put into a unit with these animals and the internal conflict that goes on within the ranks………the people are sociopaths and the military system is set up so the power hungry sociopaths go straight to the top while anyone with common sense and some morals gets snuffed out…….the military has so much potential….but it is being destroyed by evil men who cant function in the real world so they keep reenlisting …..blah blah blah……this just really hurts me deep inside

I am a Christian and these ppl who are “claiming” to be Christians are as far off as the ppl who claim to be “Muslim” but are suicide bombing. There are ppl in this society who may cling to and claim a certain religion but that does not mean that they are in fact, of that particular religion. George Bush and all these other leaders who talk about “God” and Christian morals and whatnot are not Christians, they say they are for the VOTES.

Civilian officials and operatives often outrank military officers. The President is a civilian; so are many CIA agents. CIA and other intelligence agents are often permitted to don US military uniforms and play soldier, including outranking and giving orders to regular military officers. Look at ‘Colonel’ Oliver North.
Regular military careers often provide training for a more lucrative career as a mercenary or intelligence agent. Most Blackwater mercs are ex-military.

Many thousands of US troops shoot and torture innocent civilians, and bomb them with white phosphorus and Predator drones. No matter how evil their behavior, the US population forgives them because they were ‘just following orders’, they were ‘defending the USA’, or because they were ‘ignorant and misled’ by propaganda, mis-education, and a faulty upbringing.
It seems to me that if we are going to forgive the behavior of the US troops because of the bad upbringing they have had at home, in school, at church, and in their communities, then we must likewise forgive anyone and everyone who has had a bad upbringing, including the upper classes and the members of the ruling elite, and the so-called ‘Illuminati’.
If we forgive the troops for being ignorant, in fairness we must forgive everyone who is ignorant. Stupidity becomes the explanation and the excuse for all bad behavior by anyone at any time. George W. Bush, Henry Kissinger, Bill Clinton, and all the ‘Illuminati’ are simply behaving badly because they are ignorant and badly brought up, a condition which we should forgive because it is the fault of the society that raised and educated them, and their ignorance and bad behavior has come about through no fault of their own.
In this no-fault scenario of mass ignorance, even the educators are not to blame because they were themselves educated within the same dumbed-down system or society. No one is to blame for their own stupidity; instead the national culture or the civilization is to blame for being regressive, for teaching falsehoods and for encouraging ignorance. The entire civilization itself and the beliefs that it is founded on are at fault. The ruling elite are ignorant fools who have attained positions of wealth, power, and leadership; they are just as ignorant as the people that they rule. It is a case of the blind leading the blind.
Re-education is the only cure for this deep-seated, mass-cultural ignorance and the bad behavior it produces. Individuals may be re-educated one at a time, but to bring lasting change for the entire society, the prevailing ideology of the national culture or the civilization must be permanently changed. The film “Zeitgeist” is an example of an educational tool that serves the purpose of re-educating people with the intention of transforming the prevailing ideology of the civilization.
Forgiving the ignorant soldier or the ignorant politician because of their faulty education does not change the fact that ignorant people often commit murders, thefts, and aggression due to their ignorance. Often it may be necessary to kill such ingorant people in order to defend ourselves from their aggressions. Certainly the Iraqi and Afghani insurgents and the Palestinians are justified and blameless for killing the US and Israeli troops in defence of their freedom and their security.
All protests, blogs, editorials, and conversations are efforts at re-educating people. The best re-education is one that aims to change the prevailing ideology of the entire civilization. Religion, economics, politics, and education theories should all be reformed to a more humane and egalitarian paradigm.

There are 2 things here.
1) Rapists in the military who should be treated as such. The US military does not condone or allow in any way, rape. If people were raped then the rapists should be sent to jail for life.
2) They FAKE a rape, just as they FAKE other things, to make them think they are next. Regardless if you agree with this tactic, making a real suspect think the guy or girl before him is being raped and they are next, sexual humiliation, works. Yes, it was confirmed that soldiers stuck chem lights in Iraqi prisoners asses and did other sick shit. The NEW allegations of rape are unrelated to the previous disclosures a few of you are referring to and are based off of what someone else saw.
Anyone who has served in the military would know that nobody would rape prisoners and just let anyone walk by and see it. I would beat a motherfuckers ass if I saw this and so would everyone i know who i served with and Im sure the vets in here would to. (assuming they were ever in combat or worked in combat MOS’s)

That “someone else” being high ranking US military & government officials, and members of the intelligence & interrogation communities that were actually appalled by what they had seen, reported these offenses, and refused to even be present while these monstrosities occurred, specifically to avoid being prosecuted for obvious war crimes.
And they didn’t just let anybody see it – They had special wings & secret prisons run by military intelligence & independent contractors where only soldiers with “special aptitudes” were assigned, all of which were outside of the ordinary chain of command, which RM would know if he actually researched this instead of parroting right wing talking points.

Anybody find it strange that this information comes out AFTER the photo release is denied?
Because we’ll never see these photos, people are free to make up as much as they want to about the content of these photos, and it can’t be refuted because we’ll never see the content of the photos. Also, if the photos are released later, and this sensational information is NOT included in the released photos, people will claim that we’re not getting “the whole picture” or that the government “isn’t telling us everything”.

Until I see the evidence I’ll consider this political B.S. There could very well have been rare instances of abuse, just as with any prison system. However this is not indicative of some mass conspiracy. IF anything did occur, it’s likely just the result of a few sick twisted individuals that need to be punished and should not detract from the fact that most of the people “detained” were terrorists who want to kill us.

Like Chomsky, Alex is really good at opening people’s eyes to certain issues that aren’t generally covered elsewhere, but, yes, he is a paranoid, self-serving egomaniac.
He & Noam actually have many of the same themes, reach similar conclusions, and often use the same sources, but Alex is such an egomaniac that, after inviting Chomsky on, he hung up on him for having one difference of opinion – and because Chomsky rightfully pointed out that Alex was obviously incorrect in one of his statements – and Jones has trash-talked him ever since.
(Real classy, Alex, almost as classy as Trudeau’s appearance the other day.)
Once you can see clearly, though, you don’t need someone else to lead you around.
As such, I only listen to the radio show if he has an someone interesting on – which is to say RARELY – but this site is a great source for alternative news, and I thank him for that.

I heard Hillary Clinton today, and I must say that I have to agree with her, at least on one thing, and that is Kim Jung does have to stop being so beligerant with his neighbours.
You know Alex you and other truthers like myself may have a good chance of getting some questions about what really happened on September 11, 2001 from Hillary Clinton. She is all about dialogue with the citizens of the United States. I’m not a citizen of the United States, I am a Canadian and we have soilders fighting in Afganastan for a war that appears to be based on misinformation.
Perhaps your Secretary of State Mrs. Clinton could shed some light on the concerns that the citizens of Canada and the United States have.
After all in light of all the information that came out in the days, and months and even years after the incident there appears to be some serious evidence which surficed that suggests that there was more to the story than what we have all been led to believe, and the information was just completly ignored?????
Information on the so called “terrorists” ties to the CIA inside the United States, and witnesses to bombs in the building. Mrs Clinton can find this information by watching Fabled Enemies by Jason. It appears they have banned the videos from Youtube, I guess their afraid of people getting the information.
However Mrs Clinton can see the video from your website or she can order a copy from you if she wants. It is very informative and would really shed some light on what really happened on 911.
Also Alex you may also want to ask Secretary of State Hilary Clinton what she thinks of the credible testimony of Director Aaron Russo. Aaron tells a completely different story as to the motive of the attacks on 911.
He said that Nicholas Rockefellor confessed that there was going to be an attack on American soil and that it was going to enable the government to go into Afganastan and Iraq and even Venesula to get their oil and take over these countries?????
Mrs. Clinton may want to listen to this interview that you did with Aarron Russo, again it was also very informative and really sheds light on the real motive for the wars in Afghanastan and Iraq.
I would encourage Mrs Clinton and all Canadian and American citizens to take a really good look at these two videos ;and when we all have, lets start to look at the very real and obvious possibility that it is very likely that the original “Story” that has been told may not be the absolute truth!
We all owe it to ourselves and we owe it to our countries, our fellow man and the soilders who have fought and our fighting and losing their lives.
Perhaps after Mrs Clinton and others have watched the videos, she would be willing to sit down and discuss the possibility of opening up an investigation into 911 and in light of all the over looked evidence maybe this would be the break through we all need to bring an end to the wars and all the torture that is being thrust upon innocent Afghanastan and Iraquis.
Oh yes. One more video that Mrs. Clinton would find very informative is the Obama Deception. In the first few minutes of the film, it shows George Bush standing in front of a podium, laughing and making jokes about not finding Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq.
I can’t understand why he finds that so funny especially when a million and a half Iraquis have been killed. Men, women and children who had nothing to do with the fact that there was NO WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION.
It seems to me that in light of there being NO WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION, all those men, women and children in Iraq have lost their lives for nothing more than some greedy banking families. Sounds like a perfect reason to CHARGE Bush and his administration for War Crimes!
I would like to ask the True Church of Jesus Christ to pray that the truth of 911 and the Iraq war be brought out in the open. Pray that God would give understanding and clarity to you!

The more you read of this war, and the atrocities we commit, the more the other side appears to be quite justified in us. I’ve met many Arabs, Israel (invited into their homes), Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Morroco, and Iraq and all have been wonderful people. Much nicer than most Americans. Of course, this was before the ascent of the nazi Bush and co. Who can blame them for hating us and thinking we are the Great Satan when we do such things to them? I think they are correct in their charge. Thanks Bush for really fucking us over on that one. And Obama for continuing i covering the atrocitites. We cannot heal these wounds until all of the poisons have been cleansed. Those videos/photos being released are part of the healing process. Release them immediately as public anger will only increase the longer it takes you to act as a true leader, rather than as the puppet your actions prove you to be.

The military has been doing that for years and years. Oliver Stone even depicted this in his movie “Platoon” which was basically his account of the Vietnam war through his own experiences on the front lines there.
God i can’t stand all this support the troops crap everywhere. What happened at abu grahib was not what was authorized.
The people at abu grahib were mostly criminals, not high value targets, so there was no real reason to interrogate them. Charles grainer and lindy england are sick people and when you have almost 200,000 people, statistically you will have a certain amount of dip shits. Combine that with too much authority, racism, ignorance and a lack of supervision, then you get things like abu grahib. The fact a soldier was the one who stopped it is more important, I think, then the fact that a few did that to begin with…
