US Mint halts some American Eagle coin production

NEW YORK, Oct 7 (Reuters) – Unprecedented demand for precious metals and volatile markets forced the U.S. Mint to cease production for the half-ounce and quarter-ounce popular American Eagle gold coins for the rest of this year and to supply other bullion coins on an allocation basis.
“Due to the extreme fluctuating market conditions for 2008, as well as current market conditions, gold and silver demand is unprecedented and the demand for platinum is unusually high,” the U.S. Mint said in a Monday memorandum to its authorized coin dealers.
“The U.S. Mint has worked diligently to attempt to meet demand, however, blank supplies are very limited and it is necessary for the U.S. Mint to focus remaining bullion production primarily on American Eagle Gold One Ounce and Silver One Ounce Coins,” the Mint said.

The Mint said it would continue to supply one-ounce American Eagle gold coins and one-ounce American Eagle silver coins on an allocation basis to coin dealers.
For half-ounce and quarter-ounce American Eagles, the Mint said that inventory was depleted last week and no more coins would be produced for 2008.
Produced from gold mined in the United States, the American Eagles have been novel items among collectors and investors since their introduction in 1986. Each coin has a face value of $50 but it is sold by authorized dealers at a premium to the price of gold.

hey ho gotta go, I thought we had between 700 and 900 bases around the world? And I also thought that Mossad agents got the assist for JFK? And I think you’re right about those who do worship mammon, but the other 60% of us don’t have anything to barter with. Give me a real substitute and I’ll use that instead of money.

“Nothing to barter with”? You mean you don’t work, or don’t have use of your hands?
One of the BEST mediums of barter is LABOR! I know to many who have laid around the last 15 years while “flipping houses” like they were a fantasy ATM machine that’s a word they’re
not accustomed to hearing. But from an old working man for 50+ years I raised a family of 6 working with my 2 hands; many times for barter. Like I installed a furnace for a neighbor several years ago and was “paid” with a good second-hand Ford pickup. On another job I hired 3 young guys to help me take out a large boiler and “paid” 1 of them with a nice spare gun I had, another with some fishing rods and tackle and the third with half a hog that provided his family with meat for the winter. We could have used cash, but that’s the way
they wanted it. You just have to LEARN, neighbor, like we all did.

I’m still getting silver 1 oz. American Eagles because I was smart enough to get in on the action when I had the chance to. it appears that the unprecedented demand has continued unabated. production of the fractional denominations of american gold eagles still has not resumed. the us mint also recently announced that production of collectible proof silver eagles has been temporarily halted.
