US: NATO must prepare to counter Iran

A senior US commander says the US and NATO must prepare to respond to a potential Iranian ballistic missiles attack against Israel.
Admiral James Winnefeld, commander of the Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean, claimed Iran to be an ‘unpredictable adversary’, in an article in the US Naval Institute’s monthly Proceedings,.
The prospect of an offensive barrage of ballistic missiles fired at Israel poses ‘the most likely employment of ballistic missiles in the world today’, he maintained.

“It demands our immediate attention in the event of a need for a US or NATO response,” said Adm. Winnefeld.
He also claimed that ‘Tehran’s growing arsenal of ballistic missiles’ may in the future carry ‘nuclear weapons’.
Washington and Tel Aviv, which accuse the Islamic Republic of pursuing a nuclear weapons program, have stepped up their efforts to isolate Tehran over its enrichment program.

Keep NATO out of this unless European NATO countries are directly atacked. If the US wishes to intervene on behalf of Israel, that is one thing - but to involve NATO, is something else altogether.
The Israelis are quite capable of defending themselves - they don’t need our help, and spreading the conflict to Western Europe
isn’t in anybody’s long term interest.

To ROCR- To hope that Russia (dictatorship) would arm Iran (fanatical Islamist dictatorship) with Nuclear missles and claim Israel is illegal state is conspiracy garbage and you are anti-semitic. Try reading books instead of just internet conspiricy garbage. To Howard-To suggest Israel would join NATO or be invited to join NATO is absured, and reflects limited knowledge of NATO’s purpose. To all-To speculate on Iranian invasion based on Naval institute article by “senior US commander” reflects ignorance on how policy is made and implemented by US elites not to mention basic knowledge of military chain of command. See Brzezinski/Gates CFR policy study on Iran. US installed Iranian based/trained exile groups (with paramilitary) as Iraqi government. No one benifits less than Israel from US strategy of promoting Islamic terrorism. However NATO could be in “Palestine” as protector of US created terror state similar to “Kosovo”. to bjv412-israel is an illegal state. There was no legal justification for it only political. Also according to orthodox jews that are not zionists, IF the jews deserve to live there and it is not necessary to live there to be a good jew, that there are conditions in the torah that must be met. None of them have been met. Genuine non-zionist jews say this, they also say that zionism is not judaism but a fraud based on politics and not love of god. It is a paranoid schizophrenic political movement.

Eric- Thank you for your response: Following WW2 the UN General Assembly called for a partition of Palestine (UN resolution)divided into a Jewish and Arab state with Jerusalem as an international city. The Arabs rejected their state Israel accepted the plan. The Arab states, (which are based on what legal basis Eric? You dont seem to challenge the “legal” status of Iraq, Syria, Lebanon or Jordan) instead chose to wage a genocidal war of agression led covertly by the British and former Nazi’s. Israel is now and has long been recognized by the UN, the majority of the worlds civilized counties including despotic Arab regimes (but not you apparently). The Jews lived in Palestine for over 1,500 years periodically conqured and dispursed by tyranical empires using logic similar to your own. I shouldnt even have to say this Eric. Your UTube link to some raving fanatic spewing undocumented invective is just one mans opinion. Eric by what right do you decide which Jews are “genuine” or “good” or “real”? Are the ones that agree with your prejudice real? I bet they are. Your link to one raving orthodox Jew’s interpretation on the Torah is not evidence to support your claim, just mere opinion. Every statement made by this man is debateable (yet you seem to imply that it is truth just because it was said), so why dont we go statement for statement and you can PROVE IT? So to start Eric, explain your definition of a “legal” country. How is it that France, Canada, South Korea, Iceland are “legal” and Israel not?

Israel will come to an end only if the God of the Bible is a myth. If he really exists then nobody will ever get the Jews off that piece of land, EVER! So do you believe in that God or don’t you?

this simply confirms what i’ve believed for some time now . not only should britain get out of europe and the united nations but we should also leave nato . there is no reason that we couldn’t help allied nations in a true threat scenario but it would mean that we wouldn’t be chained to the titanic in the general vicinity of a self-inflicted iceberg !

bjv412 - i am certainly not educated enough to argue either side of this fence ! however , i find that your arguement is flawed . your statement that erics information is based on one mans opinion and raving fanatics that he heard on the internet , by logical extension , could also be applied to your own arguement in so far as your information , though aquired from books , are still one mans opinion and could , by some , be construed as the opinion of raving fanatics . the only difference is the choice of medium used to disseminate those opinions . again , i am not taking sides here . really . i am not an anti-semite , quite the opposite in fact , i just don’t think it’s right to have double standards . no offense intended . well that’s about all . have a nice day !

The interesting thing here is this all started thousands of years ago,and has yet to be resolved.I wonder what the problem is.Could it be that certain people who profit from war do not want this to be resolved?
And another thing,much of this stems from people thinking that they are serving God.Can man really serve God?I mean we are talking about a god who was quite capable of taking care of things long before we came along.
To Eric;Eric I understand and am aware that what you are saying contains an element of truth.However I have to argue that it is political enities that determine what is ‘legal’,Many times what is legal is not what is just,or good for all involved.
Concerning serving God again;maybe the best way to serve God is by simply reconizing everyones right to enjoy creation,in their own uniqe but non-destructive way.

james - sincerest thanks for your kind words . i have to say , i agree with you entirely . the part about serving God by recognising everyones right to enjoy creation in their own unique but non-destructive way is simple yet insightful . if more people could see the world like you , the world would be a much happier place . thanks to you too dude ! resistance is victory . all glory goes to God .
