U.S. says Iran has missile that could hit Europe

The Pentagon said on Tuesday that Iran has the ability to launch a ballistic missile capable of hitting sections of eastern and southern Europe.
Air Force Lt. Gen. Trey Obering, director of the Missile Defense Agency, told reporters he believes Iran now has a missile with a range of 1,250 miles, but he declined to say whether the weapon has been test-fired.
Iran said last week it conducted two missile tests involving a number of weapons including what Iranian state television called a “new” Shahab-3 missile, a medium-range missile that could be used to strike Israel.

Tensions over Iran’s missile arsenal and accusations from the United States and its allies that Tehran is pursuing nuclear weapons have roiled international financial markets with fears of a possible military confrontation.
Iran denies it wants nuclear weapons and says its nuclear program is designed to produce electricity to increase its output of oil and natural gas.

How very convenient with regard to the planned missile shield in Eastern Europe, obviously directed against Russia but sold under the guise of an imminent Iranian threat.
I, for one, think it would be more prudent if we had a shield in Europe protecting us from US missiles launched by a well-known warmongering buffoon.

I think this is just a bunch of rhetoric propaganda and fear mongering from the Bush Administration/Pentagon to try and drum up support for the missile defence shield in Eastern Europe (directed at Russia) and for an attack on Iran.

i seems like bush is more concerned about Europe then Europe is about itself, why cant the Europeans advocate the necessity of such defense system instead of bush??

There is no such thing as wiping Russia of the map. If that were even remotely possible, the US would have tried it already during the cold-war.
Russia is not some insignificant South American dictatorship, a tiny Asian country already weakened by a civil war or some impotent middle eastern state without weapons of mass deception (but a lot of oil). They have enough firepower to destroy the globe (that includes the US) many times over.
And before cowboys like you even start thinking about picking a fight with us Eurocrats, they should remember that we, unfortunately and to our great shame, have taught you the art of war and imperialism. We have many centuries more experience at this bloody handwork.

Just like old Saddam could launch weapons in 45 mins, now Iran has weapons too… well we had better give them a bit of ’shock and awe’, kill the civilian population and steal their oil… in the name of peace and democracy!

this week they say they are a threat…
does iran have the right to have long distance missles….
yes they do have the right…. you see most country’s can hit iran with there missiles… but iran is not allowed a misslie to go far enough to hit them back….

Israel has more that 150 nuclear warheads that can reach to Europe also! Reporting that?
Iran is a peaceful and beautiful country that has never attacked anyone in more than 200 years…report that!
USA is beautiful country with peace loving citizens but has been taken over by a mad power loving cabal of crazed neocons and yellow bellied senators that have attacked other innocent states. Report that?
China has missiles that knock out US satellites and leave USA blind in the sky………..but the administration does not fear monger about that…Why? Because USA needs the Chines to continue hoarding US debt bonds because of US overspending!

If the US attacks Iran, it will prove to the world what US intentions really are: world conquest and domination by military force and create many more enemies than it can imagine. But then I suspect the US will go broke and fall on it’s face anyway. The US can’t even control Iraq, let alone the whole planet. What goes around is going to come around. It always does.

Just like Iraq had WMD’s eh? Iran can’t even pull of successful test launches of their missiles yet we’re suppose to believe they have these secret missiles they’re not showing us that should be a huge concern. If Iran had these extra “scary” missiles, I’m sure they wouldn’t hesitate to show them off.

Ill say this you people who think that Iran is not a threat to anyone is complete BS. They continuously threaten Israel saying that the Holocaust never happened. They continuously threaten Israel saying that Israel should be wiped off the face of the planet. The continuously refuse to allow an IAE (International Atomic Energy) inspector into their nuclear reactors to make sure they are in compliance with the rest of the rest of the global community. These people also report straight to the NATO General Assembly and the Security Council. Now i believe that NATO is full of retards and money hungry political hacks that couldn’t make it in real politics, but i do believe that NATO serves as a great purpose. If Iran is not creating weapons grade uranium and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad swears they are enriching uranium for solely peaceful electrical generation in their nuclear reactor then why wont he allow IAE inspectors into his facilities to inspect them. Sounds a little bit on the fishy side to me, and makes it look as tho he is trying to hide something. If their enrichment of uranium is solely for peaceful use but yet they daily say that Israel does not deserve to live in peace and that he wishes they would be destroyed then why not allow IAE inspectors into his countries reactors to prove the international community wrong and make himself look good in the rest of the worlds eyes. You people who believe the US is out on straight up world domination need to wake up and stop living in a delusional state of mind.

If Iran does anything inordinately stupid like launch a nuclear tipped missile, they would quickly learn the meaning of S.A.D – Singular Assured Destruction. Without a doubt, there are already Ohio Class submarines in the Persian Gulf right now just in case with dozens of nukes pointed on targets in Iran.
