A day after “schooling” the hosts of ABC’s The View on waterboarding, Jesse Ventura took his case for prosecuting torture to Fox News.
“You are worried about [the terrorists'] welfare,” accused Fox’s Brian Kilmeade.
“No. I’m not worried about their welfare. I’m worried about what our country stands for,” Ventura responded.

They have never seen a torture facility liberated. I have and its far from humane. The odor of decaying flesh, fecal matter, urine, blood, etc. the list goes on. The screams of the tortured victims as the medical section are trying to help them. The soldier throwing his guts up! No one who liberates these hell holes ever get over it!!!The Allied troops took the German people to the death camps at the end of the war to “SEE” what they allowed to happen. For everyone who thinks Craig Unger or anyone else should have the relevancy of their posts policed, please consider that, for such a small and relatively quiet post, which is about 9/11, if you would complain about it, you give people, both awake and asleep, the impression that you doubt the truth of Craig Unger’s claims, and/or the validity of his conclusions. Now I have not visited his website, but neither will most of those who read these comments. So they will be judging both his post, and people’s criticism of him, based on what is posted right here.
I have been on record here supporting the deletion of a comment that made a total nonsense claim, without any supporting evidence or any citation of a source. I said that the moderator should have challenged the author to provide a better foundation for his theory, and if he couldn’t or wouldn’t, the post should have been deleted. That is obviously not the same thing as Craig’s post. With Craig’s post, only the relevancy has been questioned. I don’t think anyone’s post should have its relevancy questioned, unless people literally flood a single page with irrelevant posts. But that is not what Craig Unger does.

Hold a convention! It doesn’t have to be official. Even something that is just for show can make a big difference. Hold an independent, presidential convention at which you organize a private vote on a measure of NO CONFIDENCE in the current administration and demand its immediate replacement with your preferred candidates. Then, print up a bunch of ballots, get the word out, and, on a given day, in as many states as you can muster, hold THE VOTE in as many precincts as you possibly can.
Find places that will donate their space, if you don’t have enough money to rent space in a precinct. I happen to think that if people will donate a room of their home for a day, that’s ideal. Have voluntary advance registration, so that you have some idea beforehand of how many voters you’re going to get. Make sure you have good rules and procedures established beforehand, so that chaos is minimized. USE THE INTERNET AND TELEPHONE TREES to get the word out. Don’t rely on mainstream media, because they will stab you in the back. They may tease you with a little advance coverage, but on the big day, either nothing or a big story trashing you!
Don’t be discouraged if the candidates refuse to participate. That doesn’t mean they don’t support you, it just means they don’t know you enough to trust you. Don’t worry about it. This is just a form of petition, protected by the First Amendment. There’s no requirement that it make any legal sense. There’s no particular requirement on the wording of it. You can make it say whatever you want it to. I would suggest putting a “yes” box and a “no” box, so people can show up and vote against the candidates if they want to. But this is optional, not required.
Don’t charge for admission or voting. Accept donations, but don’t make them a condition for voting.
You don’t need a corporation; personally, I would not use one. Just arrange everything via written agreement between the founding organizer and everyone else. The founding organizer should name a successor to take over, in case the government or any hostile private interest tries to go after him. Don’t sweat all the details right in the beginning, because if you do, you’ll never get off the ground. Remember, the whole point of this is to tell the whole country, supporters and opponents, that you’re fed up and something’s gotta change now!

For some reason the mainstream media pundit technique of changing the subject when they start to lose the argument doesn’t work with Jesse. Every act has consequences relative to the size of the act. The consequence of toture is that the enemy won’t surrender as more join up to fight. Those associated with, or related to ones tortured will fight to the death to protect their children/parents/friends/family from the torturers. The torturers unintentionally cause the death and injury to more of its own soldiers on the battlefield. The so-called enemies become galvanized against what is now the face of the vile scum that represent, allow, authorize, condone and/or claim ignorance of torture. The so-called enemy now fights with fervor against a monster.
When a nation allows torture, it is tantamount to murdering its own troops, not to mention the peril created for those supposedly being protected, the civillians back home. Put yourself in the position of the so-called enemy. A foreign power has invaded your neighborhood and taken family, friends or neighbors into custody and tortured them to force admission to crimes as surrogate. WHAT WOULD YOU DO TO PROTECT YOURSELVES AND YOUR CHILDREN? Surrender? Don’t think so. Would you sit and wait to be next? As a former seal (B.U.D.S. class 102), I believe ventura has a valid argument. The training that we have both been through (although a decade apart) gives his statements validity. The amount of explosive needed to bring down the twin towers would have been far exceeded by a tank of jet fuel. Even with the extremes in temp. caused by prevailing winds on the epicenter of the crash , at worst, a mass of molten metal would have ocurred within the range of five floors above and below. Let me state this, if americans do not open their eyes to the possibilities of another lie (like obama not being a natural citizen) being perpetuated on them then we get what we deserve!

Agreed! I worked in NORAD under SPACECOM in the 80’s. I trained for awhile for spec ops – I was switching between going pararescue or combat control..I was lucky and had the opportunity to train while stationed near AF Special Ops Command (Hurlburt Field, FL)….
The tower collapses were totally demo. From a free fall collapse to the pyroclastic debris flows (seen during demolitions and volcano eruptions) along with a host of other indicators – it is highly apparent the buildings were blown up.
Further, having worked in NORAD, it is clear that a stand down was in place on 9-11. I listened to General Myers (last week on CSPAN) talk about the 9-11 war games when questioned by a viewer. What a joke. Even if war games were legitimately scheduled on 9-11 – the tactical response teams would not be a part of the exercise. What military, on what planet, would run an exercise and completely diminish their ability to respond to an emergency?
A lot of folks miss this bit of detail. We have forces on call 24/7 – all the way down to planes sitting on idle and troops on standby for immediate response….these types of units do not participate in off-line exercises – if a particular unit needs to engage in a readiness exercise – they are simply covered by another response team. The rotation of Victor Alert or Looking Glass (old school) aircraft comes to mind – 24/7 there are birds in the sky with the capability to launch nukes, take over radio/tv communications, etc… (i.e. E4B – The National Emergency Airborne Command Post)….
The notion that we were lost, surprised and short on information on 9-11 is an absolute joke – and a spit in the face to those of us who served in one or many of those various capacities.

As I read the “enlightened” replies from many of whom I imagine are in their underwear eating cheetos and banging away at the keyboards, I have to laugh at those who decry “torture” or “enhance terrogation” techniques as “bad form” or “evil”. News Flash Folks….Those POS’s we picked up on the battlefield want you and I DEAD. As a person who has attended and graduated several Military Special Forces and Survival Schools and served as a USAF Pararescueman, I know a little about torture, interrogation techniques and the like. I’ve also worked closely with Special Forces A-Teams, Marine RECON guys and SEALS. Ventura is full of shit. He was never water boarded. That is not a reasonable expectation for an active duty guy to endure to be able to function as an operator on the teams.
Torture is having your arms bound with ropes from the wrists to the shoulders and then being lifted off your feet until you pass out from the pain. These techniques were used by the NVA just for their sadistic kicks.
Thinking you are going to drown to get information to save possible lives sucks and may be scary but does not hurt or leave any lasting affects. I have experienced “shallow water blackout”, the precursor to drowning twice and it sucks but it ain’t THAT bad.
The reason we don’t waterboard gang members or US citizen criminals in jails is because of a little thing called the Constitution. You know… that little piece of paper OBAMA and the rest are wiping their asses with right now. Terrorists or non-US citizens who wish us harm have, and deserve NO such protection.

(1) some military guys have in fact been water boarded during SERES
(2) military training changes over the years – including SERES…..they used to be able to punch and kick you in boot camp — they still can in war time – in theatre
(3) SERES training is not uniform – there is variation in technique
(4) military guys have the ability to tap out during SERES exercises – unlike a real water boarding
(5) water boarding is the light weight stuff we have done to folks – like raping a twelve year old in front of her dad and other prisoners
(6) I believe Bagram Air Base has over 100 reported torture deaths at the hands of US/CIA troops
(7) many of the prisoners were kidnapped by rivals for a bounty – US was paying top dollar – so I rat out a business man I hate and call him al queda and get a bundle of cash from the US

All well and good that you analyze the Preamble, but the founders were quite specific that limited authority over people was paramount. Read the Federalist Papers. Those limited defined powers definitely include treaties as Supreme Law under Article VI such as the Geneva Convention. If you still believe that our elected officials can authorize torture and torturers, then that same authority would be assumed by all countries! The documents that have come out prove that the CIA told Bush & Company that there was no conclusive link of 9/11 and al Qaeda nor was there WMD in Iraq. Bush & Co. set out to torture men and women in order to obtain such a link and when they still couldn’t obtain what they wanted they covered up their dirty deeds and blamed torture on soldiers who were ordered to torture, the “few bad apples”. 9/11 was the ultimate lie–a lie Bush & Co. concocted in order to get the citizens behind their agenda–they knew something had to happen here on U.S. soil so horrendous that the citizens would blindly believe anything–3,000 lives to them were necessarily expendable.

Jesse was waterboarded as part of his training so that he would be prepared for the eventuality of being waterboarded by enemies. He is making the point that a country that lives by the rule of law does not torture prisoners. He himself was waterboareded in preparation for being tortured by a country that does not live by the rule of law.

You forget to mention, and here is where you whole argument falls apart, that when water boarding is done on “terrorists” it is for REAL
Unlike the TRAINING exercises at S.E.R.E. where soldiers know it won’t last forever and can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
There is a massive psychological difference between the two, not to mention the act itself is basically drowning and if you believe it can be done by scum officials to terrorist, why not on common criminals or on what the DHS has labeled “right-wing” extremists.

dude I do not agree….
(1) some military guys have in fact been water boarded during SERES
(2) military training changes over the years – including SERES…..they used to be able to punch and kick you in boot camp — they still can in war time – in theatre
(3) SERES training is not uniform – there is variation in technique
(4) military guys have the ability to tap out during SERES exercises – unlike a real water boarding
(5) water boarding is the light weight stuff we have done to folks – like raping a twelve year old in front of her dad and other prisoners
(6) I believe Bagram Air Base has over 100 reported torture deaths at the hands of US/CIA troops
(7) many of the prisoners were kidnapped by rivals for a bounty – US was paying top dollar – so I rat out a business man I hate and call him al queda and get a bundle of cash from the US

You don’t have to agree, and I won’t diss you with sophomoric epithets and childish language like some other “window lickers” on this thread who pretend to be patriots. I know what I know based on experience and training. I was basically drowned twice under controlled conditions and did not aspirate water into my lungs because the Cadre at the school were all trained Pararescueman and qualified combat paramedics who resuscitated me with a couple of well placed “bitch slaps’ across the mouth and some shouts of “breathe stupid” and I came around. In the late middle and late eighties Pararescue OLJ Class 85-13 they still did their fare share of bitch splapping to make a point and several (most) including me were pulled from the bottom of an eleven foot deep pool at Lackland AFB after a motherfuxxer of a training session. This pool work was all preparation for Special Forces Combat Diver School at Key West at the time.
Army SERES school and AirForce Survival School are very similar and have classified POW “labs” that are very similiar to each other. Been to both. So save the BS. You are right in the assertion you can “tap out”. It is a training environment and you are there to learn the Military Code of Conduct and techniques to survive hardships and resist interrogation until you can resist no more and do so with honor. In fact, in is not uncommon to have former POW’s teach during lecture sessions.
If you are listing rape as an example of common practice sanctioned by NCO’s and Officers and unverified accounts of murder during interrogations, your credibility is lagging.
Say what you like about Kilmead, Ventura still inferred his opinion was not credible since he didn’t serve. How childish. Serving as a Swabo UDT puke is not the epitome of Military service. It was just a job. Just like my job as a POS AirForce Rescue Puke. BFD.

All the while some female voice was making fun of me while being stripped searched naked, sprayed with a water hose on my knees and blind folded.

I think the only thing you don’ understand is that soldiers, sailors and marines are subjected to water-boarding as part of “voluntary” training exercise. Prisoners are subjected to water-boarding “involuntarily.” That’s why you sign all those waivers when you enlist, so they can do crap like that to us.
Also, water-boarding is a crime. We hung the Japanese for doing it to our guys during WWII. You can do a search on the internet and read about it. The U.S. Supreme Court has even ruled that water-boarding is torture. “United States Supreme Court in Sosa v. Alvarez-Machain.” The UN said in 2008 and many time before that water-boarding is torture.
If we want to go around policing the world, we have to follow the rules. It is important also to remember the ideals in which our nation was founded upon. A wise President once said, “What is the value in saving a nation, if in turn you lose the principles in which it was founded upon?” We don’t need to drop to this level, it doesn’t make us any safer.
I appreciate your sacrifice to this country, stay safe.
