Veterans, active duty to support Ron Paul with march on White House

Veterans for Ron Paul 2012, which was founded by Adam Kokesh and Nathan Cox, will host a “Ron Paul is the Choice of the Troops” march on February 20th. The march, which will start at the Washington Monument and end at the White House, will celebrate Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul’s popularity among active duty military and veterans.

Mr. Kokesh hopes to have 1,000 veterans marching in formation at the “Ron Paul is the Choice of the Troops” march. “We’ve got a lot of guys, especially active duty, who don’t want to RSVP on the Facebook event, where we’ve got over 1200 RSVP’d now,” Mr. Kokesh wrote in an email to The State Column.

Mr. Paul’s popularity among active military and veterans is underscored by his ability to garner military donations. In fact, the Texas congressman pulled in more than $150,000 from active military in the fourth quarter of 2011.

Mr. Kokesh, who served in the Marines, posited that Mr. Paul is the only Republican candidate worthy of support from active military and veterans. “Those of us who are willing to put our lives on the line for this country want a commander-in-chief who is going to be decisive, put America’s security first, and only send troops into battle with a clear moral imperative,” Mr. Kokesh professed.

Manchester Union Leader publisher Joe McQuaid slammed Mr. Paul’s foreign policy views in a scathing op-ed back in December. “While his domestic libertarian views are quite attractive to some voters fed up with politics as usual, it is Paul’s position on issues of our national security that are truly dangerous,” Mr. McQuaid argued.

“This assertion is only possible from people who are so detached from reality as to not realize what war is,” Mr. Kokesh posited.

According to the event’s Facebook page, the organizers will require proof of military service from those who want to participate in the march.
