I am sad to see some Americans use every excuse they can find to express their hatred of the Mexican workers in their country. I agree they are mostly not the highest educated but I do know they are hard workers.
I think the Mexicans are the ones that should do more complaining about the Americans. America uses Mexico for cheap labor, poluting industries which are prohibited in the States and to massively dump crappy and surplus products on it’s market.
I have moved to Mexico from Europe and find that in most places it is impossible to get good quality goods. Everything is made in the states and crappy, and I am talking about big American chains like Home Depot!
So please quit complaining about hard working Mexicans and except the fact that they are there to stay and try to get along. Much more so as I believe we are heading for a North American Union.

A TRUE STORY OF WHAT HAPPENED WHILE IN MEXICO:
A friend was visiting in Mexico and was stopped by the “Federally’s” for who knows what. They went through his car and found a small bag of pot. The cop threatened him with jail and loosing his car if he didn’t pay the federally $1000 ! These Mexican cops actually “followed” the man to an ATM! Can you believe it. They followed him to the ATM and then since it only allows $500 max they followed him to a second ATM for the other $500.
While at the first ATM the man pleaded with the federally this is all the machine will give me and the cop said “no”. Go to another ATM for the other $500! Then I understand that the mexican cop has to kick up the money to the police chief, the judges and politicians of the area so everyone gets a cut. This is what they do in Mexico, this is how the country and government of Mexico operates.
Wake up America!!! Do you want to have a country where all authority figures are bribed and paid off? Keep allowing these illegal Mexicans into our beatiful country and this is what you will have very soon.

Firstly, America is used as a pressure valve to keep the Mexican people from storming the capital and reforming their corrupt governemnt. Secondly, the American economy is destroyed and brought into line with world governance.
I cannot blame people who live in a country where the only means to food, clothing and shelter is a trash heap. It is human nature to take the path of least resistance – and so we have people making their way over the boarder. If we had closed boarders, it may create enough pressure within Mexico to create a revolution.
If I were in the same situation as many of those who cross illegally into the USA, I would probably do the same thing.

Ok, I get your sarcasm in the first post. Hypocracy is the essence of the second.
However, truth is immutable. Truth doesn’t change. We have a choice; we either accept the truth, we make up our own or we don’t care. But humans are capable of changing whatever ails them, but the medicine they need in Christianity they don’t seek. Their new standards are, liberty, equality, fraternity and not, sacrifice, self-denial and charity.
If they take the beam out of their own eye first, then they can help remove the splinter in their neighbor’s eye.

I’ve had this argument before with an aetheist and at that time I was using the exactly same lame argument as the one you use now. Most people are not seeking their own destruction, but by their spiritual and moral sloth, indifference, depression and what ever else ails them, they fail to access True Hope in the form of Revealed Christianity. That in and of itself does not cancel out the truth of Christianity. And if they don’t seek it that doesn’t presuppose a fault in my logic. There are almost no reliable, competent and accurate educator(s) at any level today, but even with that handicap I still found truth. Why? Because I hungered for it. Everyone gets hungry, either temporally or spiritually. When one is hungry in either area one finds the nourishment to satisfy the hunger. Yes, we have free will, but we are either people of good will or people of bad will. The more we lean towards the good, the more blessings we GENERALLY get. The more we lean towards evil, the more curses we GENERALLY get.
You took away the hope that is inherent in Christianity. And it is the cure which you seem to hold is only found in the ability of self-reflection, which is a flowery way of saying man can find the answers in man. man can do nothing without God. If one does seek the medicine in Christianity, that does not make one a hypocrite. These were my only points, which I guess I didn’t make clear previously.

Look at it this way. If it turns out that God never existed then it means man himself is the true author of all morality. So, far from taking away hope, what I’m offering is true hope, not a false hope that bases itself on fiction.

Of course man is not God. Man creates God in his own image because he can not accept reality, i.e., man has no control of his ultimate fate and he does not want to accept this so he convinces himself that a being similar to himself, and therefore sympathetic to his requests, created and is in control of the universe.
It is more likely true that intelligence is very rare in the universe, to the point of being an anomaly. To believe in God is to believe that some perfect, archetypal, transcendental human created everything that exists. This is the height of hubris and a fantasy.
To restate, man created God, not the other way around. The acceptance of this knowledge will not guarantee mankind’s salvation, but the alternative will probably guarantee his untimely destruction.

What’s the difference? The difference is that scientific theories are amenable to correction, whereas religious convictions are not. No one knows the entire truth, but skepticism is the best means of getting at least some of it.

Where do I begin? Let me first point out as one example that George W. Bush is a strong supporter of faith-based initiatives. Throughout history those in power have encouraged religious thinking in the masses because it is a very effective way to keep people in mindless subjection. As a matter of fact, that is why religion was created in the first place.
BUT, I support everyone’s right to believe whatever he wants. If the majority of the poulation chooses to remain ignorant to their own detriment, so be it. I will still continue to try to persuade people and to find sympathetic minds though.
Now, regarding Catholicism, the Church has a long history of supressing truth and persecuting anyone who dared to seek it outside of their assertions. We’re talking about torture and all kinds of the most heinous crimes. Let me put it this way, if the Catholic church doesn’t qualify as evil, I don’t know what does. It was becuase of this barbaric nature of the Church that it became the focus of a lot of well earned hatred over the centuries. These feelings were seized upon by manipulative political movements such as in the case of the former Soviet Union. The Soviet ideology was not really atheist, theological questions were outside its area of concern, which was power. it sought to elevate Marxism/Leninism to the status of a religion, because, as I was saying, irrational religion is a proven method of subduing the masses.
I have no feelings of contempt for anyone who believes that some form of intelligence was involved in the creation of the universe. After all, that’s a difficult problem. But I do think it takes the mentality of a three-year-old to believe that the fairy tales told in the Bible are true.

I totally agree with Charlie and it shocks me how many religious fundamentalist nutters seem to post on this board at the moment. Believing in Jesus is not going to save me when they come knocking on my door why would believing in a religion based on the false premise of man as God because of one man Saul/Pauls conversion years after the fact do anything to save me. I’m also fed up of all you religious nutters who come knocking on my door once a month trying to spread the word. I can understand those poor kids who have been indoctrinated and brought up in a religious household having no ability to see other points of view but for someone to go out and pick a fairy tale to believe in later in life just because you are scared of dying and want something to give meaning to your life because of your inability to give your own life meaning is madness I tell you. Okay we all don’t want to die and maybe living forever in heaven would be nice but wanting it to be true does not make it true. Also why do bible bashers always insist that without God there can be no morality? I know what is right and wrong without any need for the ten commandments. Are you saying that if there were no God to tell you right from wrong then you would be out killing raping and pillaging? If so then your not a very good person and your only following his laws through fear and not any belief that its the right thing to do. If God didn’t exist then man would have come up with those ten commandments anyway although probably better written and with about 5 fewer wasted on worshipping God in the right way. He seems pretty vain and egotistical this God of the old testament doesn’t he. If he is God then he’s not my God as all he seems to do is kill people and demand sacrifices to his glory. I’d rather worship Santa Claus or the Tooth Fairy they seem a lot nicer.

I was reading a book on Catholic Purity, so as far as the convenient quotes, I made no extra effort to search for them. I really know little about Plato, but Voltaire and Robespierre were firmly entenched in the Left to varying degrees. You ignored them. Voltaire, if memory serves, though his writings fanned the flames of the Revolution in France, he still has concerns on his death bed about eternal bliss, and though his people may have prevented his seeing a priest, he still had a desire to have one present at his deathbed.
You’re good, Charlie, you can pick apart sentences with the best of them, but you’re still short on substance. And if you, Rob, VVic or anyone else think that I lump Cheney, Bushler and the rest as Christians who will find eternal bliss when they die, you are all grossly mistaken.

Intelligent design theorists started off many centuries ago with the eye as an example of irreducible complexity but then that was disproved so they moved onto something else in fact they have gone through nearly the whole body over the years in search of something that stumps the Dawkins brigade. However just because science hasn’t got an answer at this point in time does not mean there won’t be one and its such a lame get out of jail card excuse to say well I cannot explain it so God created everything. Who created God?
Yes there are many questions about life and the universe that need answering but using God as a way to answer them is poor. Like the big bang theory, I want to know what happened, what existed before hand if anything, what made it go “pop”. Was there a beginning or is the concept of a starting point just wrong. I can easily imagine the future with time going on forever so maybe just flipping that the other way round and then theres no beginning either. I would like to have an explaination of the universal constant and whether we are the only life in the universe or just one of multitude of universes. Lots of questions I would like answering but saying “God created it all, he sat down and designed the human body and isn’t it perfect, end of discussion” is no help at all. If God designed the human body why did he do such a shit job? Surely he would have done a better job? For example why did he do such a bad job with the prostate gland? Or is the fact most men over 50 get jip with it part of his wonderful plan for all mankind?
I am perfectly happy to concieve the idea that there may be some sort of universal consiousness call it “god” if you want and maybe science will help prove it. However using the man made bible as proof of anything but plagurism and the ability of man to spin a good yarn is for numpties only. There is so much history out there about why it was written, who wrote and compiled it how they myth of Jesus is totally unrelated to the history of the man that its impossible for anyone who can follow a logical thought process could believe the fairy tale of Jesus as God, born of a virgin, crucified and reborn 3 days later. He never claimed to be son of god and to be the messiah did not have that meaning at that time. Even the remenants of his church and his brother who took over on his death did not claim this and argued with the catholic church about the falsehoods they were spreading that he was. Its a historical fact that they were actually labelled as heretical whereas the church created by Saul/Paul who never even met Jesus went on to become big time.
Anyway just because there have been evil atheists does not mean all atheists are evil thats like saying because a lot of Catholic Priests like fiddling with kids all Catholics are pedos.

It’s because the high rate at which viruses replicate increases the amount of chance mutations and in this way the viruses very effectively adapt for survival. The existence of cough syrup proves natural selection. The same thing goes for insects. We are constantly having to develop new pesticides because insects adapt because of random chance mutations. The very intelligence that you want to attribute to some supernatural creator is itself the product of a flawed system of reproduction.
