Howard,

Have you ever noticed how people keep getting influenza and colds? Do you know why? It's because the high rate at which viruses replicate increases the amount of chance mutations and in this way the viruses very effectively adapt for survival. The existence of cough syrup proves natural selection. The same thing goes for insects. We are constantly having to develop new pesticides because insects adapt because of random chance mutations. The very intelligence that you want to attribute to some supernatural creator is itself the product of a flawed system of reproduction. You can thank chaos for this, not intelligent purposive creation.

Ok I watched that video and now I am converted. Hand me a bible and lets go knocking on some doors to spread the word Hallefuckingulleia.
Intelligent design theorists started off many centuries ago with the eye as an example of irreducible complexity but then that was disproved so they moved onto something else in fact they have gone through nearly the whole body over the years in search of something that stumps the Dawkins brigade. However just because science hasn't got an answer at this point in time does not mean there won't be one and its such a lame get out of jail card excuse to say well I cannot explain it so God created everything. Who created God?
Yes there are many questions about life and the universe that need answering but using God as a way to answer them is poor. Like the big bang theory, I want to know what happened, what existed before hand if anything, what made it go "pop". Was there a beginning or is the concept of a starting point just wrong. I can easily imagine the future with time going on forever so maybe just flipping that the other way round and then theres no beginning either. I would like to have an explaination of the universal constant and whether we are the only life in the universe or just one of multitude of universes. Lots of questions I would like answering but saying "God created it all, he sat down and designed the human body and isn't it perfect, end of discussion" is no help at all. If God designed the human body why did he do such a shit job? Surely he would have done a better job? For example why did he do such a bad job with the prostate gland? Or is the fact most men over 50 get jip with it part of his wonderful plan for all mankind?
I am perfectly happy to concieve the idea that there may be some sort of universal consiousness call it "god" if you want and maybe science will help prove it. However using the man made bible as proof of anything but plagurism and the ability of man to spin a good yarn is for numpties only. There is so much history out there about why it was written, who wrote and compiled it how they myth of Jesus is totally unrelated to the history of the man that its impossible for anyone who can follow a logical thought process could believe the fairy tale of Jesus as God, born of a virgin, crucified and reborn 3 days later. He never claimed to be son of god and to be the messiah did not have that meaning at that time. Even the remenants of his church and his brother who took over on his death did not claim this and argued with the catholic church about the falsehoods they were spreading that he was. Its a historical fact that they were actually labelled as heretical whereas the church created by Saul/Paul who never even met Jesus went on to become big time.
Anyway just because there have been evil atheists does not mean all atheists are evil thats like saying because a lot of Catholic Priests like fiddling with kids all Catholics are pedos.

Charlie,

You may or may not know of the false left-right paradigm. Let me show you:

Left Right
Satan God
unholiness Jesus
evil holiness
death life
destruction construction
Hitler Constantine
Mao Saint Louis
Bush Charlemagne (Charles Martel)
Nero Most Popes
Domitian Saints, martyrs
LBJ God fearing and loving people
FDR
Lincoln
Wilson
God hating/indifferent people

Since you appear to be an atheist, you can see which side you are more in line with. You may not be a card-carrying member of the Communist Party, but the further you drift away from God and good, the higher the probability you will fall into the works of Satan, evil, etc. You may believe that morality comes from whatever one wishes it to be, and
this is called moral relativism, which I am sure you are aware, which I believe is where we started this whole dialogue. Truth is immutable, unchangable and inflexible. If man does not see the truth, or is uncomfortable with the truth, or plainly denies and rejects the truth, the truth still remains as it was, regardless of man's difficulties.

I was reading a book on Catholic Purity, so as far as the convenient quotes, I made no extra effort to search for them. I really know little about Plato, but Voltaire and Robespierre were firmly entenched in the Left to varying degrees. You ignored them. Voltaire, if memory serves, though his writings fanned the flames of the Revolution in France, he still has concerns on his death bed about eternal bliss, and though his people may have prevented his seeing a priest, he still had a desire to have one present at his deathbed.

You're good, Charlie, you can pick apart sentences with the best of them, but you're still short on substance. And if you, Rob, VVic or anyone else think that I lump Cheney, Bushler and the rest as Christians who will find eternal bliss when they die, you are all grossly mistaken.

...And maybe I missed something, but are you calling ME a communist. Where do you get that?

This time I'll keep it short: There may be some kind of intelligent force behind creation (personally, I see no convincing evidence for this), but he/she/it is not the same being that the Bible describes (this I know, as do you).

"...the lack of serious rebuttal to my assertions"? I thought I did okay. But if it is an airtight refutation of the existence of God you are looking for, just read the Bible. Reading that book contributed more to my conversion to atheism than anything else.

Thanks for all the quotes. It's nice to know that you are reading material that only reenforces the beliefs you already have. One thing I would like to know is what "god" was Plato referring to in your quotation of him? I wonder if all the people you quoted were talking about the same god?

Well, Blessed be God The Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit!

Just when I happen to be reading a book that applies to all this and I found some truly, truly enlightening statements. For your edification and enjoyment:

Plato: Not to know God is the worst of calamities for a State. Whoever attacks faith does not love his country, as atheism is the ruin of a State.

Cicero: There is no people so barbarous as to believe it can dispense with the idea of God.

Aristotle: It is harder to found a society without belief than to build a city in the air.

Voltaire: God's action in the world is the sacred bond of scoeity; it is the first foundation of a whole equity. An atheist people would be a horde of bandits.

Rousseau: Without God there can be no true probity.

Cousin: Popular instruction must be religious, i.e., Christian. Religious instruction alone promotes morality, mere intellectual training does not, and may be dangerous. The foregoing assertions are facts corroborated by prison statistics.

Robespierre: From the Convention; The French people believe in the existence of a Supreme Being, and in the immorality of the soul. (June 8, 1794)

Napoleon: The Godless man! I saw him at work in '93. I know enough of him. Man must be imbued with the idea of God. Society is impossible without morality. Morality implies belief in a creed.

Guizot: Primary instruction to be useful must be profoundly religious.

Victor Hugo: The more man grows, the more he must believe. I ardently advocate religous instruction, but the religious instruction of the Church.

Prof. G. Toniolo of the University of Pisa: The lay (i.e. godless) schools are a menace to society.

I am starting to believe that, by the lack of serious rebuttal to my assertions, that I am just dealing with a few trolls. Masonic, zionistic, governmental satanist funded trolls who just want to bash anything remotely Christian. And that garbage about the Catholic Church! Have you ever read a Catholic source for your information? I'll bet not. Do you REALLY wish to discuss the horrors of godless athestic Communism and it's offpsring since 1789? Your father, Stalin, the second born of the devil, would have purged you quickly. You will not and cannot ever, ever, ever explain why the "Revolution" always devours it's children. If atheism is so good, then why did Uncle Joe need to purge all those who helped him consolidate power? Your answers are meaningless, your attacks are fruitless and your logic is pitiful.

You guys will be like the Vietnamese commie who, as he was about to be liquidated by his own commie friends, but thinking it was really facists executing him, yelled out, "Long live the Communist Party." From "The Black Book of Communism."

Some of you guys are in such darkness you don't even know who is liquidating you. So sad, so terribly, terribly sad.
