Bacton Cricket Club, which has played in the Norfolk village since 1934, was ordered to stop using proper cricket balls on its pitch despite no-one actually being hurt.
The parish council says that the restrictions are necessary to prevent passers-by being hit and injured by stray balls.
The club refused to comply and have now been banned from the village’s Cubitt Memorial Playing Field altogether.
Chairman David Gale said talks were in place to move the team to a new base five miles outside the village, which will mean changing the name of the club for the first time since it was founded 80 years ago.
