Sen. John McCain and Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin on Thursday got into a heated war of words — and tweets — over the Arizona Republican’s support for democracy protesters in Moscow.
Putin got personal with the former Vietnam prisoner of war, saying, “He has the blood of peaceful civilians on his hands, and he can’t live without the kind of disgusting, repulsive scenes like the killing of Qadhafi,” according to The Associated Press .
“Mr. McCain was captured and they kept him not just in prison, but in a pit for several years,” the Russian leader continued. “Anyone [in his place] would go nuts.”
Responding to Putin’s comments Thursday, McCain tweeted , “Dear Vlad, Is it something I said?”
