Update: The series called “Top Secret America” has been posted.
Our constitutional rights are being trampled sixteen different ways every day by the Obama administration, the government has made it a felony to cover the Gulf Oil spill too closely, the president may have perjured himself in the Blago investigation, but never mind trying to cover all those worthy news stories: the Washington Post thinks it has found some national security secrets, so it’s going to blabber them all over its newspaper starting Monday—reportedly, complete with an interactive website linking jobs, codenames and missions.
Quinn Hillyer at Washington Times found out Friday. He prints a warning letter which has gone out from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, telling them to do whatever necessary to protect staff in sensitive positions.
It’s outrageous that WaPo would “stretch” to endanger national security and personnel, but it’s certainly not the first time. Or even the 2nd time. Where will the Obama Department of Justice stand on this act of treason?
It’s a felony to do so, just ask Bush advisor Scooter Libby who was prosecuted (wrongly) under federal law:
Behold US Code Title 18, Part I, Chapter 3, § 793:
Gathering, transmitting or losing defense information:
(e) Whoever having unauthorized possession of, access to, or control over any… information relating to the national defense which information the possessor has reason to believe could be used to the injury of the United States or to the advantage of any foreign nation, willfully communicates, delivers, transmits or causes to be communicated, delivered, or transmitted, or attempts to communicate, deliver, transmit or cause to be communicated, delivered, or transmitted the same to any person not entitled to receive it…
Shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both.
(read the whole code above link.)
Will keep you posted. I cannot imagine what kind of weekend our national security personnel must be having under this uncertain cloud.
As Sweetness and Light wrote in 2006 during another WaPo leakage of national security secrets:
“Our watchdog media is doing its mission. Safeguarding our freedoms by destroying our national defense.
One story at a time.”
