  • What Did the CIA Lie to Congress About?

    George Washington Blog
    Friday, July 10, 2009

CIA director Panetta admitted to Congress that the CIA misled Congress concerning “significant actions” from 2001 to the present. As Congress wrote to Panetta yesterday:

“Recently you testified that you have determined that top CIA officials have concealed significant actions from all Members of Congress, and misled Members for a number of years from 2001 to this week,” the Democratic lawmakers write. “This is similar to other deceptions of which we are aware from other recent periods.”

    Here’s the letter:

    Huffington Post writes:

A source with knowledge of the dispute says it concerns Bush administration interrogation policies.

This could be true. A Senate report revealed that planning for the torture program began in 2001.

    However, Newsweek writes:

CIA director Leon Panetta has ordered an internal inquiry into the agency’s handling of a contentious and still highly-classified intelligence program that has caused a heated dispute between the CIA and Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee. The move by Panetta appears to be an implicit acknowledgement by the agency that it should have disclosed information about the post-9/11 secret program to Congress much earlier than it did…

CIA and congressional officials have refused to describe the nature of the covert program, but insisted it is not connected to the CIA’s use of controversial “enhanced” interrogation techniques. But the program’s existence erupted into a major political dispute Wednesday night when seven House Intelligence Committee Democrats released a letter charging that the agency had “concealed significant actions” and “mislead” members of Congress by failing to inform the oversight committees about the program until last month…

“This program came in post 9/11, and it was indeed on again, off again, the official said. “You could argue that it never really took shape.” The implication is that whatever the details of the program, it carried risks that some officials at the agency strongly felt might not be worth taking.

“You’ve got a lot of people [at the agency] who, after September 11, were thinking of creative ways of doing things,” said one former senior CIA official. “That doesn’t mean you have to run up and tell Congress about it.”

If the CIA and congressional sources were telling Newsweek the truth, and it is not the torture program Panetta was referring to, then was he talking about?

    As I’ve previously pointed out:

    • The decision to launch the Iraq war was made before 9/11

So, hypothetically, none of those could be what he was discussing.

That brings up the question of whether he was referring to a Continuity of Government form of government.

Because I feel so much safer with Pelosi and Chuckie and Boxer and Frank watching out for me.

      Urban Moving Systems Reply:

Way to miss the point. This isnt about Pelosi the boogeyman its about the CIA yet again lying and as usual getting away with it. Step away from the Limbaugh partisan hacks….

Interesting thing I read in the synopsis of a book on “Skull & Bones”. Seems how the majority of them gravitate to jobs on Wall Street or to U.S. Security agencies.(CIA) Would you trust anyone fool enough to lie in a coffin and masturbate while telling all assembled about their sexual experiences? That is one of the rituals of this occultic organization set up by a man to replace the Masonic Lodge that had been banned from Yale in 1838 as being anti-Christian. Bush’s I and II and John Kerry were all “Bonesmen.” Along with Bush II’s grandfather, Preswcott.

or you could say people who graduate from Yale usually become successful in life……..

    2. truth911 Says:

criminals will lie to each other we the people cant trust neither and a whole lot more branches of our useless criminal government

    3. Reconmarine Says:

      Just as an example;

IF we had the ability to microchip prisoners, then stage fake jail breaks, letting congress know that we were doing that, given their 150% leak statistics, would be the end of that program.

Watching bad guys return to their hideouts, then drop a huge bomb on it would be perfect.

Another example; In the late 90’s we had UBL’s cell phone tapped. That info, highll top secret was leaked through congress and we lost UBL’s cell phone.

      What are you talking about?

All Bush had to do was call up Bin Laden and say, “hey buddy, where are we vacationing this year?”

      Reconmarine Reply:

Oh yeah, I forgot. You live in make beleive land……..

      reconmarine Reply:

Why wouldnt I trust the CIA? And yes, We had his cell phone but somehow couldnt get to him. And he got away in Tora Bora too. And Santy Clause is real.

      reconmarine Reply:

      impostor fag,

Go read the book “Killing Bin Laden” By Delta Force Commander of all spec ops on the ground in Tora Bora, Dalton Fury, if you want to know what really happened there.

It doesn’t have big colorful pictures and there are some big words so let me know if you need it paraphrased.

      reconmarine Reply:

You always say-”go read this book by this government insider or intelligence asset!” and you say it without a hint of irony. Do you know what the word gullible means? This is why people make fun of you. Because a special forces guy is gonna be allowed to spill any damaging beans in his BOOK right dumbass? LOL!

      reconmarine Reply:

He says that in his entire Spec ops career, he has never been denied when submitting a plan for a real world operation and they had 4 plans denied in the kill/capture attempts of Bin Laden. That would probably go along well with your conspiracy theories.

Or infromation about how they were less then a click away from Bin laden and the Afghan Northern Alliance we had paid shit loads to already, held our guys at gun point for over 12 hours while Bin laden escaped.

It’s funny how when someone of the same caliber says something you agree with or that supports your lies, then they are credible, but when they don’t agree, then oh, they must be an insider, willing to die for Cheney’s oil buddies, or some other bullshit.

Quit making excuses, if you can’t read a book then just say so. Have someone read it to you.

      frazier Reply:

Secrecy breeds corruption and abuse. Compartmentalization came from the Nazis and hides wrongdoing by classifying what they wanna hide and have no legal permission for, like Iran contra and the overthrow of Mosedeck (or however it is spelled) Iran’s democratically elected leader with CIA help. Our gov. speaks pro democracy but acts to support right wing dictators that give their corporations access.

      reconmarine Reply:

And in both cases, the congress and the public was alerted to the wrong doing and people were held somewhat accountable.

The problem is, the collective theories on 9/11 and other similar accusations are a thousand times larger then the previous illegal actions people within our gov have tried and failed because they couldn’t keep it secret. SO, there is NO WAY whatsoever they could keep 9/11 a secret. From the American people and especially the not so friendly countries we dealt with directly or indirectly after 9/11

      T. R. Eddy Reply:

“Right wing dictators?” “Our” government has supported anyone that the financiers that run it can make money out of. Ever read about all the big corporations that aided “Communism” right from it’s founding? You do know that a wealthy clothing manufacturer, Engels, financed Karl Marx? Did you know that while the Viet Kong were murdering your fellow citizens in ‘Nam with supplies shipped from both China and Russia that dozens of top American corporations were aiding and abetting them? Who did more damage “Hanoi Janew” Fonda or the greedy pigs that helped Russia and China supply the war materiels to Hanoi? Two targets in the North were never touched. Destroying either or both of them could have really put a crimp in the Viet Congs supplys. One was the series of small dams around Hanoi that provided power for their industry and irrigation water for crops. The other was the two huge custom dredges that kept the Red river from silting up and allowed the ocean going ships to deliver war goods to the port of Hanoi. My uncle worked out of the Pentagon at that time. All the brass knew these facts but were not allowed to do anything about it. What would you call it? I call it “TREASON”.

      reconmarine Reply:

I would say you just WAY over simplified a subject that not so black and white like you put it.

Seems to me that this could be a media buildup for another useless (for truth seekers) “limited hangout”. As if, oh yes – we really do hold each other accountable in this government! And yet when the MSM finally reveals to the public what CIA was supposedly lying about, it will most likely NOT have anything to do with serious “deep” or black operations. Nothing new will be revealed, is my guess.

    5. kebcreation Says:

Lying? Come on that is wrong from any agency including the politicians and should be a punishable crime when proven by facts. Lying is only wrong in court? That is stupid. Lying is never right especially when lives are sacrificed for the “lie’. A lie resulting in a persons death is involuntary manslaughter actually but never prosecuted.

    6. truth911 Says:

my guess is they lie about everything! ya know why? dont make me say it

It interesting to know which ‘dozens of top American corporations were aiding and abetting China and Russia’ during the Vietnam war- and if you can’t name all of them you are a liar
