The White house has not declined the possibility of a terrorist attack on US soil during the first year of the country’s new president.
After Senator Joe Lieberman said in an interview with CBS news on Sunday that US enemies would test the new president with attacking the United States in 2009, Washington did not reject the comment.
“I think Senator Lieberman, unfortunately, could be right. And the only reason I say that is because we know that there are people who are very dangerous who are trying to attack us every day,” spokeswoman Dana Perino said Monday.

“The President has been looking for Osama bin Laden since September 12th. That effort has never let up. And we are dealing with a very – very dangerous terrain,” she added, trying to explain the Bush administration’s efforts to stop terrorist acts.
Earlier, an advisor to McCain, Charlie Black said that a September 11-type attack before November election would benefit the Arizona senator. He, however, apologized for his comments.
Democrats view such remarks as a means to create fear and panic among American citizens.
Republicans were exploiting the threat of terrorism ‘for political gain’, said Richard Ben-Veniste, a member of the official investigation into the 9/11 attacks.
