Why Israel is Attacking Gaza Now: “They Want It To Be Over Before The Next Administration Comes In”

Israeli’s leading paper, Ha’aretz, writes:
Sources in the defense establishment said Defense Minister Ehud Barak instructed the Israel Defense Forces to prepare for the operation over six months ago, even as Israel was beginning to negotiate a ceasefire agreement with Hamas. According to the sources, Barak maintained that although the lull would allow Hamas to prepare for a showdown with Israel, the Israeli army needed time to prepare, as well.
Therefore, it is certain that Israel’s massacre in Gaza is not related to any specific recent rocket attacks by Hamas.
So why did Israel choose this moment to attack Gaza?

Well, the Bush administration will be out in mere weeks. And while Obama has made nice with AIPAC and Israeli interests, Israel isn’t sure that he will be as acommodating as the current administration.
As Phyllis Bennis writes:
The Israeli decision to launch the attacks on Gaza was a political, not security, decision. Just a day or two before the airstrikes, it was Israel that rejected Hamas’s diplomatic initiative aimed at extending the six-month-long ceasefire that had frayed but largely stayed together since June, and that expired 26 December. Hamas officials, working through Egyptian mediators, had urged Israel to lift the siege of Gaza as the basis for continuing an extended ceasefire. Israel, including Foreign Minister Tsipi Livni, of the “centrist” (in the Israeli context) Kadima Party, rejected the proposal. Livni, who went to Egypt but refused to seriously consider the Hamas offer, is running in a tight race for prime minister; her top opponent is the further-right Benyamin Netanyahu of the officially hawkish Likud party, who has campaigned against Livni and the Kadima government for their alleged “soft” approach to the Palestinians. With elections looming in February, no candidate can afford to appear anything but super-militaristic.
Further, it is certain that the Israeli government was eager to move militarily while Bush was still in office. The Washington Post quoted a Bush administration official saying that Israel struck in Gaza “because they want it to be over before the next administration comes in. They can’t predict how the next administration will handle it. And this is not the way they want to start with the new administration.”

Israel bombed a mosque that it said was used to store rockets as well as vital smuggling tunnels along the Egyptian border, and the Islamic militants hammered southern Israeli cities with about 60 rockets. Bombs and rockets have to explode in order to make money for the bankers financing the war mongers.

The big difference here is the growing level of complete distain for Israel. Jews or Zionist, if they don’t stop they will be the most hated people in the world because the world is campaigning against them. Perhaps you and I can make a distinction between Zionism and the Jewish faith in whole but some will not. Just think what would happened if the playing field was even. People whine about if or not Iran is supplying weapons to the Palestinians. So what if there are? Our government is supplying weapons to Israel through tax payers dollars, so when a Palestinians dies, we are all complicit unless we fight against this Holocaust.
Soon Obama will not be able to hide under the guise of not being the President just yet. He will have to speak out and make real decision regarding the genocide of the Palestinians. No one will listen to his hope mombo jumbo speeches. And no one will allow him to be silent.

Well anyone notice how the incoming criminal Obama has been real quiet on this situation? All the yuppies are awaiting his decree on the situation and Obama is too busy going swimming on vacation (no surprise, Bush is on vacation too). I don’t think the next regime will be any different, Palestinians will continue to die and Israel will still get more funding.
Obama going into power will only help Israel, not slow them down. Obama has said nothing negative about Israel and so there is no basis for this article. These sort of operationsa re good training for the troops though. Pilots get to have real exercises in bombing and striking targets on the ground without any worries, building their confidence for larger operations like an Iranian campaign. Not to mention, Israel probably is itching to try some bunker busters against some underground bunker.
This is much like the bully picking on the mentally retarded kid and the bully claiming to be a victim because he had a rough childhood. Let’s hope the depleted uranium leaches into the ground water supply and gives the jews a taste of cancer and birth defects.

tom, I agree with Mr. Wiggins #5, because I cannot believe that the Israel in the Old Testament (Torah) is anything like the NWO political “Israel” that exists today. If you read the Revelation you find John writes about the “Jews who are not Jews” and the “Synagogue of Satan”. I think it is Rev. Chapters 2&3 around verse 9.
