YouTube has removed a large number of Hitler parodies featuring a clip from Der Untergang, or Downfall, after copyright complaints from producers Constantin films.
The clip, which portrays Adolf Hitler’s rant against betrayal in his Berlin bunker, has been the subject of a huge number of parodies on the popular video-sharing site, becoming one of the most popular memes of the past few years.
Cheeky YouTube comics replaced the film’s English subtitles with their own script, showing Hitler ranting about everything from being banned from Xbox Live to having his membership of the BNP leaked. One of the most popular clips shows Hitler ranting after Usain Bolt broke the 100 metre record: ‘If I could catch Bolt I’d rip his b****cks off. Then I’d take a picture of it and post it to my 41,000 followers on Twitter,’ screams Hitler.
However, the film’s producers have failed to see the funny side, and Constantin films is now mounting a campaign to assert its copyright and have the clips removed from the site.
