When asked about the Islamic veil worn by muslim woman, Emmanuel Macron, the French president said it is “the opposite of the French civic values”, in a TV interview on April 15th.
His statement sparked a huge controversy in France, where the largest Islamic community in Europe lives, and any public debate related to Islam leads generally to trouble (as we reported here, with the French author, Eric Zemmour, being fined when he talked of “an Islamic invasion in France”).
Marianne le Mag conducted a poll about the declaration made by Emmanuel Macron, on the 24th and 25th of April.
The poll asked, “What is your opinion of the French President’s statement that the hijab is the opposite of French civil values?”
Seventy-nine per cent agreed with the President while only 21% considered his statement as “discriminatory toward the muslim population”.
The results should come as no surprise, the French population are growing more and more fed-up with sheer numbers of the Islamic population unwilling to assimilate to French culture.
